I want to say I'm happy for everyone that is excited about this class. It's great you've found something you will enjoy playing.
That being said, I am very very disappointed. 3 classes thus far that I am completely uninterested in playing. The barbarian? Been there, done that. Same abilites shown from before, and I didn't even enjoy him much in D2. Witch Doctor? Just not my style. Would not enjoy playing him, I don't think. The Wizard? This class really really strikes me as BLAND. It's the same boring stuff I've done in games for years and years already. The same spells as D&D and countless other games (having gone through the released list of abilities as well as the gameplay video). I'm just not interested in playing the same character AGAIN.
That being said, perhaps something will come in the next 2 characters that will knock my socks off and I'll say "Oh...I've just GOT to play that," but none of these trip my trigger at all.
No one says the classes have to resemble the old ones. They can twist the "lore" of any of the skill types, mix them up and give them to a totally different class.
As an example, a class that uses charge-up/finisher skills for melee (like the assassin ones), crossbow skills (ranged, a different build option) and spirits as utility (like the druid ones, for any build).
I can imagine that as a black knight of some sort. Even though you would call it a Paladin replacement (gameplay wise, because hes a knight), he uses combat skills resembling the assassin ones and spirits resembling the druid ones.
Heh, told u so. Wizard. I would have guessed that but I was hoping for something (a name, not the class itself) that wasn't so bland (although I do take back my guess of witch, forgot they already had a witch doctor. They aren't mixing up the skill sets, they are "re imagining" the classes.
And I know they won't have the same number as I put, but I didn't know which ones (from diablo 2) they would pick so I gave names for all of them.
And as to all the naysayers for the wizard. Yes it looks bland except for TIME STOP. First halfway decent use of time stop ive ever seen (although it looks like it wont be very powerful when you are surrounded by archers).
And im still waiting for the double axe throwing rogue.
And I know ive said and too much, I just keep on editing this post.
Just now realizing that there is a picture of a religious dude with a sword on the official site (look at caldeum), I'm guessing that there will not be a cleric class replacing the Paladin, rather a Zealot or something (clerics traditionally can't use blades). I think the dude with the spear will be a guy for hire (act 2 sounding familiar?).
