In all fairness the last character should be a pirate who cast out along with his crew in search of booty, but a treacherous and gruesome beast shattered the boat, ate his crew leaving this last pirate washed up on the shore alone in the land of Diablo.
Well, no. But the typical pirates were known for using flintlock pistols, which doesn't fit in the Diablo universe. I doubt it contadicts lore. Besides, Meshif sure was a wannabe pirate. He had to get the idea from somewhere.

Yes, Pirate for fifth class and Drunken Masteries as a skill tree!
Oh, and about the Brewmaster. That guy also has a skill where he breathes a cone of flame. When it hits enemies that are coated in alcohol, it ignites them causing damage over time.
Also, it's a Panda with a huuuuge amount of bear-related puns (I bring pandamonium, this will be grizzly). I love that character to death
I just read The Black Road, one of those Diablo novels. Main character was a Westmarch Navy officer, and in the beginning the ship he was on was chasing down pirates to rescue a hostage.

Out of all the gay ideas I've heard, this one beat them all. LMAO! A pirate?!?! Really??? I think we should also visit a distant forest with ship wreck lagoons and buried treasure! Lol!
Honestly out of some of the ridiculous suggestions I've seen this one is doable. In fact I'd have preferred some Pirate Brawler or Navy dude over the Barb. I still hold by my "5th class is ranged" and I can't see a Pirate being very ranged, really - but it's not a bad idea, and I don't think you thought your post through very well.
no goofiness indeed, the pirate needs to be able to dual wield a crossbow and a sword at the same time, i have some creative ideas that maybe the pirate has some sort of magical blunder buster or crossbow that shoots rocks really really... really fast or magical arrows that he catches on fire by blowing alcohol on them, lighting the arrow or rock, then shooting it. the pirate would have to have some skills like sword master that allows the character to dodge, and deal two hits instead of one. Ranged mastery allowing the pirate to put multiple rocks or arrows into his weapon.
Also the pirate could be either male or female, uses a wide variety of wepons, is fantasy like, is badass, and could interest some people to play the game and be the 5th character because it is a pirate.
Where there are ships there are pirates. They do fit.. kinda. Thechampion's idea of dual wielding sword/crossbow doesn't fit. Not at all. Shame on you. Crossbows take like 30 seconds to reload IRL (I know that's not the case in D2) so rapid shot seems very silly. I still think 5th will be Rogue but I wouldn't ignore the Pirate idea because "it doesn't fit" because that's bull. Ninja doesn't fit, Dhampir doesn't fit (to me), Wraith doesn't fit (to me), demon with wings and horns doesn't fit (whoever came up with that idea, hit yourself for me), flying character doesn't fit. Pirate is doable.
