Yea D2 had one tome and that was for the The Countess. Weak sauce. Oh, and actually that other tome in the Arcane Sanctuary which to be fair was actually pretty interesting.
I loved the tomes, probably my favorite part of the game. Even in d2 I loved the Countess sidequest and it was really set up well with the addition of the tome. One of my fondest memories and features. Even now when I see the moldy tome in d2 I smile a little inside.
I really hope we see some more in D3. Lore is where its at for me.
I wish the Moldy Tome had some content in it. I know it's basically just a recipe book, but still. It's interesting enough that it was way down there lying on the ground.
Erm, just found a tome included in The Hell that must not have made the final cut into the actual game. Mordor must have crawled through the MPQ files to find it, and he put it in the caves level.
Hail and sacrifice to Diablo - lord of terror and destroyer of souls. When I awoke my master from his sleep, he attempted to possess a mortal's form. Diablo attempted to claim the body of King Leoric, but my master was too weak from his imprisonment. My lord required a simple and innocent anchor to this world, and so found the boy Albrecht to be perfect for the task. While the good king Leoric was left maddened by Diablo's unsuccessful possession, I kidnapped his son Albrecht and brought him before my master. I now await Diablo's call and pray that I may be rewarded when he at last emerges as lord of this world.

Or, you guys could actually take the effort to actually read the damn post and see that this is the tome called "The Black King". Look under the Lazarus header and you'll see it.
PlugY for Diablo II allows you to reset skills and stats, transfer items between characters in singleplayer, obtain all ladder runewords and do all Uberquests while offline. It is the only way to do all of the above. Please use it.

This was a wonderful post, which I did for the record read all the way through.
The tomes were great storytelling methods, they had such an eerie feeling to them. A bit surreal too once you got down to the caves. One wonders what these books were doing down there complete with pedestal and surrounded by demons. Odd place to put a book.
I liked your pointing out that a demon was likely responsible for writing the handful that weren't written by Lazarus. I never really thought of it that way. Don't know who I thought wrote them now that I think about it, I guess I just never thought about it.
