I don't understand how anyone can like that shit, it looks so damn stupid. Reminds me of Dragonball-Z when they hit each other through mountains and what not. I could understand if they fly outwards on a crit or something, but this is just silly.
At first I was going to have a big qq about it but then I realised that I'm going to be exploding palming the shit out of everything, so it won't really matter to me.
The moon physics do make Diablo a little more like a toy game. If the bodies would slam into walls with a thud, or hit the ground harder after a barbarian smash, it would honestly feel more gratifying, even if they didn't fly as far.
It's as if the barbarian is using a helium tank as his weapon, meanwhile injecting the monsters with helium and sending them up in the air like balloons. This is a case of good intentions gone bad. I understand the idea of creating the godlike persona of the barbarian, but like most have said, this is a little bit out of proportion.
If my opinion matters, by toning this effect down to a certain degree (like some have said..triggered by a critical hit or maybe a passive skill/rune with bonus damage), "moon" physics in moderation will actually appease more to the players than moon physics effects after every hit.
I don't care much because I don't think it's a problem.
If after release the majority of the community will ask for the gravity to be fixed.
They will fix it, because it's probably just some variables that need tuning.
I was so excited for Diablo III. We've been waiting a decade for this game with a small glimmer of hope back a few years ago. I was a bit perturbed that there was no paladin, but the barb, monk and wizard all looked really good.
Then there was the super cartooned look they had given the graphics, they looked more like an update of Warcraft III graphics than Diablo II. I understand that they need to make the game more available to people of all ages and what not, and with the resolution substantially higher, I can understand the need to tone things down a bit... even if I didn't personally agree. This series is dark, really dark, the story line is gruesome, I expect the graphics to match the game. Oh well.
This moon physics though, I'm seriously debating whether I'll be able to even play this game now.
"I don't want anyone to get the impression that we're shooting for realism here, because our goal is absolutely to make it feel like you're an over-the-top human god laying waste to the demonic masses and setting their carcasses flying free like so much loosed meat."
In the previous games, I had no doubt that I was laying waste to the enemies with "over-the-top human god" like powers, and they didn't fly at my screen when I smited them. I was quite certain that my powers were more than sufficient when I rained down a 60k meteor on the enemy and watched them burn to the ground in a demonic fire. "...like so much loosed meat." I'm not sure this really makes sense, this looks more like something from that game Blosics than it does laying waste to demons.
I dunno... just some thoughts from a long time Diablo gamer.
What bugs me about the physics at this point isn't it being over the top, it's that the corpses speed doesn't match the distance they fly. They casually fly up, and they casually flutter down. A blow that sends you flying that high should have propelled you at great velocity.
On the other hand, Blizzard has stated they're a) not aiming for realism, and b)not done with the iteration on physics. So I'm curious what the end product will be like =)

You can hit the bodies again on the way down. Barbarian Volleyball is unofficially, but quite really, a thing.
Don't mock DBZ - that show was freaking EPIC!
