Think what you will. Sonata Arctica is easy listening and a catchy band, but I would never place them a step above all other Power Metal, nor a step away from it. To be honest I think they are terribly overrated. I did really dig them for a while, though.

"So I like climb out the window and I fall because we’re on the third floor , but it’s cool, because I land where my arm used to be, but it’s not there so it doesn’t hurt. And I’m thinking, yeah, man, this no arm thing is kinda chill."

Well their new stuff has absolutely no power metal vibe to it. So if you've yet to hear it, I guess you wouldn't actually know.
Yet to hear it? Please don't give me that. I said I really digged them. I even know a whole lot of their songs by heart. So I've heard them all right, and I still think they're power. Perhaps not standard power, but still power.
And as I said, think what you will. If you don't agree with me, then don't. your point is taken.

I understand what you're saying. I tire of the whole power metal genre myself. It's become to straight forward and simple. I believe you keep referencing the earlier material of the band. I don't really know considering you don't try to validate your points besides saying "I've listened to their music, and I think ALL of it is power metal". I'm just pointing out their newest material is a complete overhaul of their sound. If you still define their new sound as power metal, then whatever. It's not, hardly anyone would agree with you. The band themself stated they hate the power metal scene. Perhaps instead of giving a uncredited opinion, you could reference why you think it is? How would you define power metal? What out of their new material would you define as power metal? Any specific songs? This is a metal discussion. Discuss it.

Good, then we're settled. I lost interest in them before Reckoning Night was released, so I don't have much to say about the two latest albums.
In Flames, and other melodeath, is a gateway into 'harsher' metal for a lot of people. It's a good place to start, and I like it.
Turisas. The new kids on the folk metal block. I personally don't like them. I have listened to them a few times and tried liking them, but no, I just can't get around to it. Decent at best. Perhaps they are able to grow on me if I listen to them a few more times though, we'll see.
That's just me though. I know there are alot of people who like them, because they're growing at an incredible rate.
When it comes to Finnish folk metal, Finntroll and Moonsorrow reign supreme. Korpiklaani put up a good fight, but they have some fatal flaws. Turisas never cease to surprise me; this new year they're headlining a show with Finntroll, which just feels absurd and very, very wrong to me. . . Looks like we soon will have to leave room for one more spot at the top.

Don't contradict yourself or anything.
I personally prefer korpiklaani over fintroll. I havn't excessively listened to either of the bands. I remember dipping my feet into the whole pagan folk metal a few months back. I just have a really difficult time liking bands with harsh vocals. I don't know if you've ever heard of Mago De Oz, but I think they absolutely rock. That's folk metal at its finest for me. Now only if they actually sang in english.

I entirely missed that litte word earlier. Laugh's on me
Mago de Oz, eh? No, that one is new to me. I'ven't stumbled across any Spanish music before, but I'm familiar with their German counterparts (i.e. In Extremo, Subway to Sally), which I love. This is a great discovery! Thanks for the tip, I'll check them out as soon as I have the chance.
To me it isn't important that lyrics are in a language I understand. In fact I think all bands should sing in their mother's tongue. Most of the time it's better like that. I listen to and love lots of music in Finnish and German, neither of which I speak properly.

I am a music lover plain and simple. some of the bands I listen to in the metal genre are Black Sabbath, Cannibal Corpse (saw them live with Necrophagist), Cradle of Filth, DevilDriver, Dragonforce, In Flames, Necrophagist, Pro-Pain, Probot, Slayer, Soilwork and Strapping Young Lad.

The other band is Turisas - Those were the days. Not really the whole band, just that song in general.

For a second I thought you were referring to Hatebreeder, because that was really unique but a bit harsh.
To Carloseus, I really like their song Chosen.
It's the decisions you make when you have no time to make them that define who you are.

sometimes beginnings aren't so simple, sometimes goodbye's the only way."
