Im sorry but its the other way round. We design and build the cars here, and export them to other countries. It goes like this.
Holden design the Monaro in Australia. It goes to united states rebadged as a pontiac, and sold as a GTO. It goes to europe rebadged as a Vauxhall, sold as a Monaro. Holden design the VE commodore, and the SS and Clubsport models go to united states and are rebadged as Pontiacs. Please do not try and argue this with me, i know my stuff and my father has been a Holden employee for 33 years.
So you see its the Aussies that do all the work, all the americans do is own the company, and pump in the cash. So i guess i gotta say thanks, if it wasnt for you guys Holden wouldnt exist.
Did you not see the last part of my previous post? I'm aware that some (not the majority) of GM vehicles are based on Holden platforms.
I love the Holden brand. I cannot wait for the G8 to hit the United States as I think it's one of the prettiest cars out in recent years.
I'm not arguing that Holden is crap. All I'm saying is that the source of Holden's miraculous power is from the US. So either you can admit that without the US, Holden could and would not be an awesome car manufacturer or we can just call this a draw.

I agree. I did admit, that if not for the US, holden might not exist. I said thanks. Thats about all you will get from me, im a stubborn mother fucker LOL. I wouldnt call it a draw, but nobody won, it was just a discussion.
By the way, i just looked the G8 up on pontiac.com, and i gotta say wow, they kept it looking like we made it and added some nice touches. The front end looks alot better to tell the truth.
You know if diablo3.com ever needed a debating team it think you and i would rape most people out there.
It definitely depends on the context used, if you're in an argument with a Aussie/Briton(don't see many Americans use Briton) and they decide to start name calling, such as "Asshole yank". Yank would mean "You're an obese, uneducated, Bush loving gun toting POS and I hate you and everything your country stands for". Yank truly gets the message through short, sweet and clear.
A lot of these people, when using yank, associate it with a slack jawed red neck. Yanks and red necks are completely different, in the U.S the north and the south are at times completely different countries as far as opinions go and they almost were different countries at one point in history.
Calling a red neck a redneck isn't going to ruin his day. Calling a yank a red neck may spark some anger, not sure if a redneck would actually care if they're called a yank, probably pull out a flag or something.
I couldn't think of any derogatory names for Aussies, the only thing I could fester up was calling an Aussie a manaroo. But that's pretty sweet sounding, perhaps mount a laser on the manaroo to add +10 cool points.

Manaroo? Haha it sounds freaky styley. Care to explain it?
I thought someone would have pointed out that Aussies are a nation consisting mostly of decendants of convicts. LOL.

Well now this is interesting isn't it? I guess you kind of have to go back to the origins of the word Yankee. It was mostly thrown around during the Civil War era. The people of the Northern Army, they were Yankees. But before the Civil War even, people of other countries, especially Britain and France referred to the United States people as Yankees.
But it makes sense why the South did not retain that nickname during the Civil War. Since the South wanted to secede from the North, they natuarally wanted to disassociate themselves culturally from the South. So really, rednecks and yankees are not the same thing. But nor are rednecks conducive to the South only. There are plenty of rednecks in Utah, Idaho, Wyoming, and Montana as well.

It surprises me how little I hear of Australia in the world news. And even less do I get to hear nicknames for them.
I know that the whole yank.redneck thing was to do with the north and south. I just never really thought that much into it.
From my perspective a yank is just your general american. Moderate upbringing, generally well housed/clothed/educated and so on. So yeah context with the word is the main part to it being derogatory. But when someone says "rednecK" i think of a slack jawed farmer who spends the days with straw in mouth and spends the night shaggin his sister.
So I reckon being called a "redneck" would be a bit of an insult. Kinda like calling an Australia a Tasmanian. It can get you killed I tell ya. Killed.
I did meet a Canadian the other day. And I couldn't believe it! The actually do say the word "Eh" all the time!

Why do Australians call British people "Pohms". Shouldn't the Australians technically be called Pohms (Prisoners of his/her majesty) because the first white Australians were actually the prisoners?
"Red necks" only applies to the people from the southern portion of the United States, and to them they probably think it's awesome. As for the people in the north, we use the term to insult them since they are idiots.
I dissagree greatly with this sentiment. For example I have studied physics and string physics and Roman and Greecian history and love Shakespeare. However, I am also a Redneck, and hold the term Redneck dear to me.
Also, "idiot" means one who doesn't vote. I vote. Most Rednecks that I know vote. Therefore, your generalization is incorrect.

Even today within the U.S., the Northeast part of it is considered more Yankee-like. Especially New York.

That's a little more old fashioned. But today's redneck isn't necessarily a farmer or banging his sister. It's a little more like a socially conservative person who drives big American trucks, wears lots of flannel shirts, hates Mexicans, drinks cheap beer and listens to country music. At least that's what the typical redneck in my state is like.

Yeah I've been to Canada. My dad and I once took a road trip their together. I was just young enough that your customs decided to make my dad get out of the car and answer lots of questions cause they thought I was being kidnapped and whisked across the border. Then I had to answer a bunch of questions as well. Silly America Junior.
