The man said they were willing to sacrifice the entire island. Only weapon powerful enough to do that is a warhead.
Not to mention.. Where do you get the information? The movie ended before they showed a nuke or anything drop. They carpet bombed him with a stealth jet, that's not a nuke.
Yeah, I looked it up. But think about it.. If the monster was still alive.. Who got the camera? Why was the camera recovered and then nothing said about the people?
I think they left it open in lots of different ways. The sequel can be a continuation of the story that eventually shows it's death. It can explain it's origin better. It could even be the same timeline from a different point of view.
We can't know, which is why they did a great job leaving it open.
I saw Cloverfield and i thought it was an excellently done movie, although slow to start of with... seems to be a fad these days... But i have to agree, the Monster probably still survived because nuking Manhatten would be silly. Its been 60 years since Hiroshima and Nagasaki and babies are still being born with defects, lots of cancer etc. but the situation is different, giant monster storming the city.
Man, it fucked the statue of liberty's head and came so hard that it flew ten miles, and almost killed everyone on Broadway...
As well as the sound blip, a small object can be seen crashing into the water in the final camera scene, where the 2 surviours (not really..) are on there holiday thing. assumedly it is the monster, in infant form, does this mean it can breath underwater???? *horror!*
Didn't the one black girl make it? Or am I missing something?...She took the helicopter before the others and since it made a return trip I presume, it must have dropped her somewhere safe.
Why does everyone think she was black? She was latina(maybe biracial) >.< And yeah she lived, we think. But I still would have much rather they put a good ending on the movie instead of making a sequel because the sequel will be 2 more hours of the same thing.

that was not an infant monster falling from space. That was part of a satalite a company purposly dropped into the water so they could go down and investogate. Rumor is they saw the mosnter from space on satalite and didnt know what it was. The monster was awoken by the drilling company of an oil rigger looking for deep sea necter drink ingridiant for a company called SLUSHO!
read the entire thread its explianed alot better
also regarding the nuke idea
as stated also in this thread. after hiroshimas nuke the only thing that grew their for years were fields of clovers. Who knows maybe the cam was found 2-3 years. The movie does not specify but i bet the sequal will

Sorry, sorry. My excuse is that it was dark most of the movie.
I liked the movie, but disagreed with so many of the characters decisions. And did anyone notice the thing that fell into the ocean at the end of the movie? I think it was the monster falling from space. That's my opinion

You clearly didn't read the thread, or even the post thats two above yours for that matter.
I think for a sequel, they would need another angle. Because another camera following people around would be lame as a sequel and a sequel would also be stupid from a normal perspective. So if they can think of another intuitive way of doing the movie, then I think a sequel would be good, if not then I won't care.

They were right next to the monster moments before the hammerdown. If it was a nuke then nothing electronic could survive that close to ground zero; even if they had detonated the bomb just prior to impact with the ground they still would have been within the severe blast radius.

After the credits, there is a blip of audio that was recorded and analyzed.
What people found was that the main character prior to dying whispered, "it's still alive."
It was not specified that a nuke was used, many larger bombs are just as good as a single nuke.

And you are easily amused by simplistic movies. I bet you own a nokia.

Check out these:

They might have used this or more likely a coordinated bombing strike to bring about a firestorm.
