And if Scientologists were merely using their own faith to help them with their own problems, I wouldn't have such a problem with them. But they seem too eager to tell everyone else why they shouldn't be taking prescribed drugs or seeing a psychiatrist or psychologist.
Does anyone remember when the South Park Scientology episode was first to be released? And Comedy Central initially pulled it from its schedule. Why would it do this? Because Comedy Central and Paramount are both owned by Viacom. And at the time when this episode was about to be aired, Tom Cruise was refusing to promote Mission Impossible 3 if that episode was going to be aired. So Viacom, not wanting to risk Cruise not promoting his new shitty movie, ordered Comedy Central not to air the episode until Mission Impossible 3 was finished hitting the theaters. I just think that's crazy. If Tom Cruise is a strong believer in Scientology, if he truly believes that religion, then he shouldn't care who is making fun of him for it cause all that should matter are his beliefs, not what other people think.
Then I remember how Isaac Hayes decided to leave South Park because of the Scientology episode. It's like, he was perfectly okay being a part of a show that made fun of Jews, Christians, Muslims, Mormons, liberals, and conservatives; but suddenly when Scientology's number is up, he's like, "No!" What a stupid baby. Why would you be on a show where you know no subject is off limits and expect the creators of the show not to make fun of Scientology.
It's the whole Hollywood support of Scientology that bugs me too. Cause as you may or may not know, celebrities are better than average people. And Scientology in Hollywood seems to me like this special little club where highly sophisticated actors who give their children names like Apple, Life, or Air, all get together and talk about how they pity average people like me who just aren't sophisticated enough to understand Scientology. And how they pity me even more because I feel I need to take antibiotics when I get an infection.
Yeah some of their views are a bit extreme. The whole medicine thing its just absurd. Tom Cruise if you want to live as a scientologist then so be it, but dont go around encouraging people to not take drugs when they are sick. I personally think Tom Cruise is the creepiest person ever. He just gives off this frightening, creepy vibe. And for the scientologists who think that people are misunderstanding them, then get different spokespeople because the ones you have are ruining your reputaion, and are making you look like nutcases.
I'm not a scientologist, but I don't think it's healthy to use medicine for every little thing. Some people get a slight twinge of a headache and instantly reach for some pill. They get a runny nose or a small scratch then freak out in attempt to find something approved to lessen the pain or solve the problem. I used to take a decent bit of medicine, and then I got tired of it. Anymore I very rarely take medicine for anything. If I get a headache, unless really really major and I need to sleep, I don't take medicine.
Im even beginning to stop take my nightly allergy medicine, and so far I'm doing great (although it is winter). Now if I got some illness where my life depended on a medicine or the condition would be greatly improvd by it, I would go ahead and take the medicine. I personally just don't think people should take pills to try to solve every little problem.
I have had General Psychology classes and do think that it works for the most part, but I don't know what scientology really says about it. The link provided earlier for a scientology.org site didn't work for me.

Only once they understand will they know what the truth really is.
This is my Tale.
Try making your own Leap Of Faith... You might save more than just your life.
Strawman? Not so much anymore, I'm just stating my opinion.
I agree maybe with the criticism response part, but they do believe in something. I was just saying that you don't need to believe what they do in order to take courses or anything. If you want to join Scientology that is your thing, and if you don't you won't get kicked out.
As for the medicine part, I do agree with that. Medication does not solve the problem, or else you would be able to stop taking it and not go back to the way you were. I think that there may be such things as chemical imbalances, but those are temporary such as post-parton (is that how its spelled) depression. As for other depressions and things, I disagree that medication is the best route, or should be a route at all. Just like he said, there are vitamins, exercises, ways to handle anything, without using mind-altering drugs. If I am depressed, why is medication going to work for me if I'll get depressed again once I get off it? I've been depressed, and the best if not the only way to get out of it is to want to get out it, to find reasons to be happy again.
There are commercials for medicine that treats social anxiety disorder, aka being shy. You shouldn't treat it with drugs, you should get a friend and go out and just hang out, learn how to interact around others. Not swallow some pills. Same for almost anything. For people that can't sleep, try excercising, reading, stuff that will tire you out physically as well as mentally. Just like Outsiders, when Ponyboy was having those dreams about his parents.
Well after I almost odied on hydrocodone and anti-depressants I stoped taking pills altogether, even the pain medication for my broken wrist. Ever since then I havnt gotten sick once.
Siaynoq, where is this information from? I remember that the voice-actor was Chef, and that's why he ultimately left, because of that one episode. I don't know anything about Tom Cruise and the MI:3, but even if it did happen I wouldn't fault him for that. He's standing up for something he believes. He can't promote a company when its slandering his beliefs, I would do the same. And the fact that Hollywood accepts Scientology doesn't mean a thing. People talk to people, and that is how it grows, not some conspiracy or plan on making it for the elite.
Can someone lend a hand? It seems that once again I'm having to defend something and fighting off multiple people just to keep this place from turning into a landslide and everyone getting only one side. And Siaynoq, I'm sorry if you feel so strongly about this, but I don't think you are being very objective about it.
First of all, its open for anyone of all walks of life.
Second, they don't pity people. Pity is an enabler, you enable people to feel sorry for themselves.
Third, they have no problem with anti-biotics, its "mind-altering" drugs they are against. Things that will alter your mind. That will change who you normally are.
Lol, seriously folks. You are all becoming so heated about this. Scientology isn't bad, its good in my opinion. I've seen nothing but good come from it, no wars, no hate, not even discrimination. Other religions have spawned these, and until Scientology does it you can't say its bad, or that its any worse than any other religion.
Im guessing they are against the ganj huh? except for that it seems all good, It would be better if they asked for donations instead of giving them a beliefs fee.
Im guessing they are against the ganj huh? except for that it seems all good, It would be better if they asked for donations instead of giving them a beliefs fee.
Its not a beliefs fee, they are similar to therapy or workout sessions, they cost money. I think for the course my dad took for a week or two (cant remember) it was around 1,000. However it was a steal considering the effects it had on him. He was a better and clearer man altogether. I might take one to clean out some of the stuff I got bottled inside me, and to see what my dad's hype is all about. What I like about it is that you don't have to believe it, you don't have to follow the religion, its optional. If you try it out and like it, great come right in. If you liked it, or didn't, you are glad to come back whenever you want.
It takes money, they run it a bit more like a business than christianity. Instead of giving money to the Vatican, you pay for the services. The information is there if you want it, the courses are simply to enhance the effectiveness of your learning. Kinda like reading a book on yoga, and stretching before you actually use it. Probably a crappy analogy, but its similar to that.
I think people don't like this religion, because it's new and people don't know what to think of it. So automatically, people think the worst. That's the truth Carloseus…sadly, it's in human nature to be like this.
Scientology is just a way of thinking, like every religion. It could be a lot worst than what it actually is, I mean like you said Carloseus, Scientology hasn't contributed to wars like some religions.
What is this thread discussing anyways?

I like the life I lived, because I went from negative to positive.
You know very well who you are, don't let them hold you down, reach for the stars.
Diablo fenatic you should probably just stick to your countdown. I am not automatically labeling scientology as a fraud or bullshit religion. Like I said before, I completely respect scientology as a practicing religion. All I'm saying is that I disagree with their beliefs with regard to psychiatriy and psychology. And that their views about psychology and psychiatry are unreasonable.
Diablo fenatic you should probably just stick to your countdown.
Diablo Fenatic has contributed more to the site and has posted more than you...

I disagree with psychologists, they can implant false memorys to make you think you need more psychtherapy they do it all the time, its a scam.
I've never heard of implanting memories before but I know some people get addicted to going. Do you disagree with Psychologists or Psychiatrists?. People are putting them in the same basket

Is it true that they sell penicillin without prescription over the counter in the U.S? I heard that the misuse of penicillin is what has caused all these "super-bugs" due to microorganism gaining resistances because people are misusing it. Its like man-made evolution. I think a general increase in hygeine in todays society is needed too
today; all religions are based of faith. Nobody of the Christian church today actually knows if there was a jesus christ. Scientology works on the same basis, and i don't know a lot about it personally except for what i've read on this forum (Which has been some incredibly intellectual conversation) and Wikipedia (Not the controversy) but Scientology works on the belief that you are actually a spirit that does not exsist in the mortal plain, but a metaphysical plain of exsistence.
Again, this is faith whilst it is good to say that a lady had visions of her previous life, its all quick and good to say that its evidence of the Scientologys beliefs, but that could be all number of things like Reincarnation, which is a Hindu belief or natural human Science biology (Note that this factor of living is neither heavly documented publically or secretly, or even recorded for that matter).
Religons are uniting factors of a persons life. People want to meet people who agree with them. Religions are a great way for people to meet like minded individuals, but again, they are all based on an unconfirmed belief.
All religions are out to get each other if there beliefs are different enough. The Crusades are big enough evidence of this (Christians vs. Muslims). Christians, Anglicans and Catholics are very similar in there beliefs and thus there is not such a big war between them. A majority of the people on this planet are anyone of those three, wheras Scientology is a very small minority, not that i have a figure. (note, if i am wrong here, or someone has a figure please add this) Scientology is also very different to any other religion in the domain so far, and thus is one of the most critisied.
Personally, i don't believe nor support the beliefs of Christianity, Scientology, Hinduism, Muslim, Islam or anyother religion, because i don't want my beliefs based on an unconfirmed fact(s). i'd like to believe what i want to believe about the life i have discovered, not a preset.
On Physcology and Physchiatry: I believe that pills are indeed a short-term cure to something like agreesion or depression, but what does scientology have to offer instead? One of my closest friends suffers from Aspergers Syndrome and he takes medicine to help him over come anxienty that it causes. If he wasn't taking them, he'd probably have no-friends at all as well as a very low-level of self-esteem. He hates scientology because of it's view on mind-altering drugs. Anyone who has been through something like he has would. Drugs also make people reliant, which is something that i am greatly opposed to. I'd preffer to be self-sufficient than have to rely on a pill i take daily, but i haven't been through things people who have to do this would. And my expiriences would be the foundations of my beliefs.
Finally, Religon is one of the greatest causes of War on this planet. Because of this, Mankind will not truly venture into space and future science unless a peace and equallity is found between all reliogns and beliefs.
Nobody of the Christian church today actually knows if there was a jesus christ.
There is pretty conclusive evidence (and no, not just the Bible) that Jesus Christ did exist. Whether he was the son of god is the bit requires faith.
Personally, I think that JC was probably a decent chap and following his teachings is a good way to live your life. I don't believe him to be the son of god though.
With regards to Scientology, if it works for some people then fair enough. It freaks me out a bit and their insistence that psychology and psychiatry is bullshit is staggeringly ignorant. Using videos of Nazi experiments to "prove" this is equally absurd.
Essentially I disagree with almost everything I have heard about Scientology which is why I would never subscribe to it. If it helps people then that's great, but it's not for me.
If this isn't enough proof that Scientology is bullshit, a mere money hungry cult which fucks over its believers (read blind money spending sheep), then I don't know what is.
You seem to hate scientology quiet a bit. Has anything in your life that may be seen as an afflication taken place in regards to Scientology and its beliefs, or are you merely expressing an opinion based on interest and facts?
Besides that, saying that Scientology is bad because it has caused Deaths isn't valid. Put into perspective, the Bible is the greatest force to murder in history.
The Crusades, 100,000's die all because of a Christian Belief.
Suicide bombings in the Middle-East, 100,000's die because of Muslim (Extremist) beliefs.
The Thirty Years war between Catholics and Protestants, 100,000s die.
