It's really fun reading about how everybody describes where they are fun. Some very creative answers.
I'm in Washington State in the USA. It's right across the border from Canada. That's one of the things I really like about bnet is meeting people from all over the world. Maybe one day I'll get to travel to all these exotic places.

Cape Town, South Africa.
No: I do not own a lion; There are no elephants in the streets, I'm not native-african, I speak english
Yes: We have roads and cars, our country is awesome, we have digital sattellite tv (currently watching Miami Vice, brand new show!<-------Just kidding)
eg: We get games same time everyone else does (the states and uk that is), watch most tv-series (eg. Lost) three weeks after the US, Movies open same time as in UK and USA (eg. Dark Knight).
If you ever have time, or just gonna wait till 2010 FIFA world cup, be sure to be in cape town, our second capital.
**Disclaimer: By none of the statements above do i mean to insult anyone's intelligence, i just get a lot of those types of questions when telling foreigners about SA**

Right in our backyard and I agree if one hasn't been there its truly a great beauty. However once you've seen it, you've seen it. I would like to experience other parts of the world, let alone my state/country.
Kenzai: Turkey and India appear to be dusty and backwater on tv, so your initial opinion on them might be wrong. Yet those countries are largely over-populated. here we don't have such a big population.
If i had to describe it the best: A lotta people call South Africa the most western country east of america, if you catch my drift.
We have most of what UK and USA have, just not that diverse! Eg. we do have Mcd's, KFC etc. but we don't have things like wendy's or starbuck's (a shame tho).
We drive BMW's, Mercedes Benz, Porches, Cherolets, Fords all on tarmac roads, we get bands like 'tallica, offspring, live, Jay-Z, NOFX, to name a few.
I'd say the easiest way to describe SA is contrary to most things CNN or Foxnews depicts.
But the crime? whoa dude, its pretty bad. But, we get by!
You can see BMW's and Mercedes' around, but not that much.
Most of the population is hypnotized by pop and bad rap.
Whenever I read about Turkey, I hear about the tensions between the secularists and the Muslims. I know Turkey's current prime minister is not a secularist. So what is the current political climate there anyway?
anyways south africa is immensely poor in areas like the shanty-towns and whatever.
can you read the whole conversation before delivering your fifty-five cents please?
Oh and 'immensely poor in shanty-towns'? ha! you'd be surprised! (LCD screens, Digital television etc etc) The inhabitants of these 'shanty-towns' just don't wanna move from them, it's a way of life.
