Who deleted the diablo 3 gold thread and why? I was about to post this:

Upkeep costs are a chore, especially ones that are on a real time basis as opposed to a per play time basis. You don't need to do Baal runs to not lose progress, you do them to make progress.
And what makes the game mechanics so much more intuitive if you use gold for stash rentals, buff potions...over using gold for repairing armor and ressurecting mercenaries. Lets keep in mind the question here is 'should gold be valuable?'...meaning an entity that someone would be willing to trade for. None of the suggestions I have seen, screams 'you want my gold, trade your rune for it'.
The cost would be taken straight out of your gold reserves, its not like you actually have to go and pay the rental service. Then I'll change it to hourly, its not that big of a difference. You would not lose any progress, your items would be reclaimable. A smart player would keep all his good stuff on the free page.
The difference is, that there are more outlets for gold, the more useful outlets you have the more the value of gold goes up. There would still be merc ress and repair, but when you pair that with all these other costs you make gold useful. A single idea isn't magiacally going to make gold become worth picking up. You need an economy. So help Blizz come up with ideas dammit, stop being such a negative nilly. They want our input!"
But then I got that stupid message.
I was in the middle of a discussion, and frankly it was rude to interrupt.

I saw that post you are referring to, it part of another thread, I sure I saw that post somewhere. I think the thread you are talking about got merged.
What was the thread it is in now, aah yes, Should Gold be more important in D3.
I wish people would research the situation a little more before screaming "why did X thread get deleted."

-Humankind cannot gain anything without first giving something in return. To obtain, something of equal value must be lost. That is alchemy's First Law of Equivalent Exchange. In those days, we really believed that to be the world's one, and only, truth.
