LinkX, what would stop the people that illegally move weed into America and sell it from illegally selling it if it was legal so they don't have a tax on it?
Same reason why illegal alcohol is not anywhere near as big a problem as it was in the early 1900's. If it's legalized and it's regulated, and you still harass those that do it illegally, people are not going to risk loosing everything, including their freedom, to save an extra buck. People are stupid, I admit that. But they are not idiots, not when it comes to money.
The thing about pot is that it's just something to do, like video games and learning guitar. Now, if I just sat at home and learned guitar, would people say I had a problem? Most people would say "no" because they think I'm doing something productive. It isn't the nature of the act, it's what's gained through doing it. I could practice guitar all day long and not take a peek outside, but if all I do is sit at home and do that, then I'm not learning much else, am I?
Same thing with pot. You can sit at home and smoke pot all day, you're probably not going to get nothing done. The thing to take into account, though, is that not everybody who smokes pot does it 24/7. Shit, I'll smoke if it was offered (unless I can't smoke it then because I'm afraid of my clothes smelling), but I won't smoke every hour of every day. I have school, dude.
The assumption is that people who smoke pot have nothing better to do. Prove it, I dare you. :whistling:
Well, I wouldn't compare it so much to something like learning the guitar. The stereotype that people just sit on the couch and smoke weed for an hour isn't completely true. Just like smoking a cigarette, they can be performing other actions as well. /shrug
Warlord, I'm really happy for you and Imma let you finish, but prescribed drugs are one of the most addictive substances of all time. You mean to tell me that doctors lose their credibility once they prescribe marijuana to CHEMO patients and those suffering from chronic pain? Why does this sound familiar? Oh yeah, because doctors also dole out prescriptions for painkillers like Celebrex, whose side effects include, but are not limited to:
Heart attack
Stroke
Stomach bleeding
Does marijuana cause those things? Didn't think so...
And I never said that alcohol is good for you or tobacco is good for you. Hmm one thing that makes weed bad for you....oh yeah, you inhale smoke. No offense to your doctor friends but I would hate to have them as my doctors, sure they may now what to do when shit hits the fan but they obviously don't want to keep their body as healthy as it could be. I also don't have any problem with people destroying their body in anyway they want to, it's the only thing in this world that is actually yours, but I don't like when they do stupid things because of it, being alcohol, drugs, or anything else.
I don't depict what being smart is by only grades, I also do it by common sense. I know people with perfect grades, but are dumber than rocks.
And to Party_Foul I am one of the most open minded people you will ever meet, except somebody who is high(sorry I had to through that in).

You wouldn't, thousands would. One is the head of the ER, and one is head of Pathology for a fucking reason. And you're keeping your body as healthy as it should be? You subject it to shit when you go out to buy some groceries, genius.
I smoke weed, and I have perfect common sense. I myself debunk your entire argument, which is already ridiculous.
Point is, when tobacco and alcohol are legal, why are other drugs not?

Because tobacco doesn't really cloud the mind, you can still think straight after that. Alcohol and weed both impair judgement at all those things, but alcohol is legal because we have already tried to make it illegal and it failed, but we still have some hold on keeping weed illegal, and more people drink than smoke so it would be harder to make it illegal.
Oh and you can't judge yourself on common sense, other people have to do that for you.
Would you not call a craving for tobacco "clouding the mind"?
What about when people go without tobacco for an extended period of time, do they not get more irritable and aggressive?
It certainly clouds the mind, just not in the same way.

K, yes it does. But we can't make that illegal because the tobacco companies have way to much power.
Well no shit, there's no way any government would make it illegal since the companies draw in immense amounts of cash through sales tax, and provide jobs.
But still, you seem to have been arguing that tobacco is somehow better than marijuana and alcohol, which is completely wrong.

According to a research done by the BBC i think, Marijuana is ranked 14 in its level of dangerousness. The first is Heroin followed by coke and meth. Alcohol is like 5th and tobbaco is 9th.
I think the legalization should be dependent on how it effects the economy, not the health of people. People die more from cigarettes and junk food than they do from smoking marijuana; why not ban those? No more chocolate dammit.
That is about all I can say though, because I truly do not know what marijuana legalization WOULD do to the economy. If it would better the economy, do it. People should be able to make their own choices on their health.
Well, depending on how you look at it, all these crazy drugs (including alcohol) helped many of today's observed brilliant artists (music and physical mediums) that captured the essence of or vastly effected cultural mindsets and political and sociological issues. Not to say great things can't be done without drugs, but if it's not actually harming your body, and the high gives you some insight in to a higher plane of creativity... why not? Should meditating be made illegal? Just sayin'.
Marijuana gives me a higher insight into the deliciousness of a twinkie.
I used to be able to decipher tone from text really well, but now I'm just lost. Can't tell if this is criticism or some kind of anecdote or what...
Just sayin', guys, marijuana is my thing. I mean, I know my dad would kill me if he found out I was smoking again, but I mean, it's not as bad as people make it out to be. His whole idea is that you shouldn't use marijuana because you don't need it and that it clouds your intelligence and all that jazz, but... c'mon. CAH-MON!

Yeah, what could your dad possibly know, right? It's not as bad as some make it out to be, sure. In some respects that's true. In other ways, it actually is much worse for you than you think. You'll probably be stricken with gynecomastia as well. A side effect well documented to be associated with chronic marijuana smokers.
Usually if you have to say "It's not as bad as people make it out to be..." It's a good idea to stay away from that. If you must, then at least use it in moderation.
Littering - It's not as bad as people make it out to be...
Fast food - It's not as bad as people make it out to be...
Drinking - It's not as bad as people make it out to be...
Smoking - It's not as bad as people make it out to be...
Probably the first sentence that comes out of an addicts mouth once people know. "It's not as bad as people make it out to be..."
I hardly smoke that much, probably once every month or so, maybe longer. It help keeps my tolerance low so I don't have to smoke as much the next time I want to. It's cool, I like it.
And when I said, "marijuana's my thing", I meant that's what I like to do, not the reason behind my existence. It's hard to talk to my dad about it though because he's so damn stubborn about this. I mean, I would absolutely love to talk to him about it, but there's no getting through to him, so my efforts would just be futile.
And I wholeheartedly agree, Dae, use in moderation. A lot of life's problems are caused by excess and I don't ever intend to let marijuana do anything detrimental to my life, whether it be habitual or something else entirely.
Any of your guys' stores sell Spice in your area? They're quickly trying to make it illegal here. Talking all about how it's adversely affecting the lives of children. Pfft!

That's a rather empty assumptive argument that uses a stereotype, which would become obsolete in a discussion like this.
If you grow your own, and you smoke a bit to calm down or get into a creative mood. Then it will bever harm you in any way. In fact, studies show that Marijuana users cannot get the alzheimers desease.
i want someone who thinks that weed is bad to tell me why, i can give you an answer and a reason for every excuse you could come up with.

Haha, and with that Azriel has won the thread.

I only use that when I feel it's entirely true. I'm sure a heroin addict would say different.
