Trust me tough, i have had White Blood Cell cancer aka Hodgkin, for over 2 years, with stadium 4 chemo theraphy, being half dead half alive pritty much
Being critical doesn't have anything to do with being dead. Expressions, semantics, and words aside, the state of being "half dead" doesn't exist. You're either dead or you aren't. And if you're alive, you are not dead. So you don't know what being dead means. You are merely aware of a limited living existence, which is not the same thing.
Now on that matter, I think committing suicide is an act of cowardice. And I hate cowards.
Another one.
Cowardice of what? And what worth is cowerdice? Who cares? Cowardice is a healthy quality, it helps you save your ass, bravery is effing stupid.
Now on that matter, I think committing suicide is an act of cowardice. And I hate cowards.

Cowardice of what? And what worth is cowerdice? Who cares? Cowardice is a healthy quality, it helps you save your ass, bravery is effing stupid.
In that case it doesn't help you save your ass. On the contrary.
What I mean about cowardice is that "some" people see suicide as a way to run from their problems. (In my opinion) you have to stand and do your best to make your life better. Not end it cause you didn't have the luck to be born a millionnaire. For all we know, it's just this life. That's what we know we have. We shouldn't give up so quickly.
And there's a high chance to regret thinking about it eventually when things start to get better.
And there's a high chance of being depressed for the rest of your life because things really don't have a tendency to get better in my experience.
There's ways to fight depression. Both therapy and medication. It's more likely to get depressed when you lose hope. That can also be dealt with. There's always a way to make things better. It's just that modern politics want us to think there's no future. They predict destruction everywhere, when the only thing going wrong is their own decisions in politics...
What I mean about cowardice is that "some" people see suicide as a way to run from their problems.
Getting away of problems is often much more effective than solving them. Especially when you have little pointers on how to solve them. I've met a lot of people who spent their lives trying to fix a problem and never did. Sitting trying to fix something when there's an easier way is a waste of time.
If it comes to that, suicide is a superior option in many cases.
There's ways to fight depression. Both therapy and medication.
The amount of good psychologists out there is approximately null.
Medication fucks with your brain on many different levels and doesn't really solve the problem. It's like getting drunk or getting stuck in WoW, pretty much the same thing, in some respects worse.
And, last time I checked, therapy and medication is not very widespread in many places, such as Africa or even Russia. In fact, many of these do not recognize depression at all. They have the same mentality as you, that people are cowards and should just die or "snap out of it".

It requires you to build a strong personality. But running away from problems (or hiding them under the carpet) doesn't solve them. They'll still come back. And if you kill yourself, you lose your chance of a good life. One that might be the only you have. So no, I don't think suicide is a superior option. I would only "accept" it, if you're so old that you can't even go to the bathroom by yourself. But that's quite different.
you have to stand and do your best to make your life better.
Please explain why.
Because the life we get is the only chance we get. That's reason enough to give it our best shot. To make things better not just for ourselves but for the ones that follow, too. Cause it's their only chance aswell.

So you're suggesting that suicide booths will be easier to happen where psychologists and medicine aren't? Or that suicide is easier there? What I think, is that in the places you mention, people don't live long enough to commit suicide. They don't get to die of old age but they get to live the best they can. It's plain stupid to see people in countries that don't have fresh water or food to fight for their lives and people that have everything on a plate thinking about committing suicide cause "life sucks".
Making something better doesn't change the fact that what you're making better sucks.
What you're making better used to suck. And with your effort it doesn't suck as much. The main problem is that people "think" it's impossible to fix things and do nothing about them. It's that simple, really. That and the fact that the majority of the citizens of the "advanced" countries don't look at the future with hope of something better.
I wanted to kill myself once, like many kids, so bear with me.
Is it a sign of cowardice? Fuck you. Cowardice? What about life is shit? You know what cowardice is? Not wanting to deal with people with suicide problem and placing suicide booths. That would be the most pathetic thing I'd have ever seen in my life. Go ahead, kill yourself, we'll HELP YOU THROUGH THAT.
Thats got to be a fucking joke.
Not everybody can just get over a feeling of suicide, and what can make the difference is how easy you can kill yourself, or not. Plenty of people that won't do it because they wouldn't do it with a knife. But if they can find an easy way, there is more chance they do it.
The desire for suicide is caused by the retarded society we all live in. We destroyed the simplest principle of life to live in greed and power. If we became so pathetic as to just open the door to the easiest suicide methods, thats just fucking sad.
Is it a sign of cowardice? Fuck you. Cowardice? What about life is shit? You know what cowardice is? Not wanting to deal with people with suicide problem and placing suicide booths. The fact you didn't go through with this shows you prefer to give life a shot than simply give up. I think we agree here, I'm against those booths myself.
I'm also stating how stupid people in "modern" society are for wanting to kill themselves. There's countries where literally life sucks. Not the "oh man! I don't have enough money to buy the newest PS3 game" kind. The "I don't have food and water" kind.
So what if a person lives far away from high buildings and does not have access to a gun or knife.
If you can't make a simple knife then you have no business committing suicide. You can make one out of pretty much everything.
Or you could stop drinking. Ugly way to die but it's there.
There are many different ways to die. If one seems too gruesome then perhaps you are not ready to die yet.
The only exception to this is maybe jail.
Alright can you make one sharp enough to get the job done? If the knife turns out as dull as say a butter knife your not going to get very far with that.

Depression is not a problem of material gain, or survival.
Depression is a state of logical or illogical loss of all hope, purpose, motivation. You don't want to do anything, things you do you're not sure why you're doing, like on some kind of train that doesn't stop. You don't try any more, and you have no motivation to try. It's when you cannot find a way to make yourself happy. You wonder why you should be happy, and sadness becomes your default state. The sun shines not as brightly, the food you eat doesn't taste good, the things you did that you once found pleasureful and exciting no longer concern you, and even things you use to worry about worry you no more. From person to person, this may take different varied forms; some struggle with sexuality, some have self-esteem problems, some had a series of crushed hopes and ambitions. Generally, I came to the conclusion that depression is caused by the societal system.
Overall, it's a state of stasis that requires certain conditions to occur. It's not a direct form of sorrow like that which comes from a death of a loved one, but that event may lead to depression. The non-causality of it is what makes it terrible. You don't know why after a while, you just don't_enjoy_life and when you stop and think you can't find any reason to do anything.
And you may chase after something to fill the void. Joining the army, martial arts, moving to a different place/country, getting a new hobby, and depending on what you have available, even buying a PS3. Some may get out of it and bounce in a continued depressed state with a few happy moments here and there without acting on it, some commit suicide.
But if you gave me right now a depressed person, I wouldn't know what to tell them to make them feel better. Would you?
That would depend on that person. I'd have to know some things about him/her before i said anything.
From personal experience on bad things happening (that i won't talk about) there's 2 ways to continue:
1. You realize how little time you have to live this life and try to make the best out of it (the way you find more appealing to you - for me it's making friends, being in a "healthy" relationship and doing things I like, like being a member and moderator here)
2. You abandon all hope, think everything's pointless and give up on life. Which can lead to either suicide or drug use.
I believe after listening to the depressed person I'd talk to him/her about how I could be depressed, yet as you said I'm not. It's about showing people it's not over just because the society we live in isn't as it should be. Very much as suggestions and effort can change things in a small community (like a forum), with a little more effort and good suggestions things can change in real life aswell. That's my main point. Why kill yourself when you have the chance to fight for something bigger than you?
Why fight for something bigger than you when you know your going to fail?

If there's something I learned from my ancient Greek heritage is that it's worth it to fight for something that big, even if the odds say you'll fail. Cause if you succeed then the result will be something to be really proud of. And (to me) that's the most important thing: How will i be remembered when I'm not alive? In ancient (and modern) Greece we called it "υστεροφημια" meaning "posthumous fame" (didn't know that term in english either). That and to help create a better world for my kids, when I have them.
Is it a sign of cowardice? Fuck you. Cowardice? What about life is shit? You know what cowardice is? Not wanting to deal with people with suicide problem and placing suicide booths. You can't blame the average person for this. Its not the person's fault in what environment they were raised in.
And I've never seen people want to suicide for not having a PS3... the most common issue over suicide is love and money. Can you blame people for not being able to understand and see their place and the meaning of their life, in a place like North America? Where we place doubts and judgments of others to such a high level, where everything seems designed to push us down in meaninglessness, without even realizing it.
You can't doubt the meaning of your life when you're struggling for food and water in a very poor country, when you've seen and learned of nothing else but yourself.
1. You realize how little time you have to live this life and try to make the best out of it (the way you find more appealing to you - for me it's making friends, being in a "healthy" relationship and doing things I like, like being a member and moderator here)
Doesn't work.
You are coming from the perspective that life is some kind of a worthwile sacred thing with limited time. I just don't feel that way at all. I feel life is this random thing going on that I stick with as long as it doesn't bother me too much. Making the best out of life and treating every day as sacred is a specifically optimistic perspective that not that many people share, actually, most people live life out of convenience or instinct of self-preservation. Nor do I see the logic behind your perspective.
The person DOES NOT share that perspective, the think life is "meh" and losing it is not a big deal. What do you tell them? Of course it depends on the person. For instance, if you tell me to go make friends I'll probably punch you in the face because that doesn't work for me.
It's about showing people it's not over just because the society we live in isn't as it should be. Very much as suggestions and effort can change things in a small community (like a forum), with a little more effort and good suggestions things can change in real life aswell.
Better. Sometimes it's about finding a "corner" you feel well at. Just the corner may be hard to find.
That's my main point. Why kill yourself when you have the chance to fight for something bigger than you?
Maybe because we have different ideas about the chance. Like what DesmondTiny said. Most things I want to fight for are bigger than me. I want to fight the world. I was told if I fight the world, I will lose. I fight the world anyway, but I don't expect to win, not now.
Can you blame people for not being able to understand and see their place and the meaning of their life, in a place like North America? Where we place doubts and judgments of others to such a high level, where everything seems designed to push us down in meaninglessness, without even realizing it.
You really can't. This country >causes< depression. I was never depressed in Ukraine, even though I was bullied a lot and had a lot less stuff. It doesn't make America a bad country per se but you need a different mindset to survive here mentally.
Cause if you succeed then the result will be something to be really proud of. And (to me) that's the most important thing: How will i be remembered when I'm not alive?
I've thought about this for a long time but I still couldn't find a reason to care about something that will happen when I no longer exist. I can't bring myself to care no matter how much I try.
1. You realize how little time you have to live this life and try to make the best out of it (the way you find more appealing to you - for me it's making friends, being in a "healthy" relationship and doing things I like, like being a member and moderator here)

Depressed people are... difficult.
Well, I share your belief that life is this random thing going on. But that's what makes it (to me at least) worthwhile. It's like winning a lottery ticket and saying "meh, what's the point in spending the money" and then throw it away.
Not saying I'm right and you're wrong, but i ended up having this point of view after reading alot of philosophy. It simply makes sense. To me of course but I feel it could make sense to more people too
I believe after listening to the depressed person I'd talk to him/her about how I could be depressed, yet as you said I'm not.
Don't do that.
Don't ever tell a depressed person you're in a better situation than them.
Ever.
Didn't mean it like that. I ment show them I had a tough time but decided to do something about it. Ignore the bad things and start fresh. That's not showing them I'm in a better place. It's showing them I'm in an equally bad place with a different attitude.
Yeah, it can be a little hard to find but it's worth it. And it can be quite simple too. When I'm melancholic (not as bad as depressed) I usually annoy my cat. He makes me feel better for some reason
I live and fight because I believe in god.
You could be healthy and have people telling you you're sick for all of your life. It doesn't make you sick. What I'm saying is that "if" you have something you feel is worth fighting for, don't look at the odds. Hell, Greece won the 2004 European Championship in football (yeah, football, don't call it soccer). What's more impossible than that?
Cause if you succeed then the result will be something to be really proud of. And (to me) that's the most important thing: How will i be remembered when I'm not alive?
I've thought about this for a long time but I still couldn't find a reason to care about something that will happen when I no longer exist. I can't bring myself to care no matter how much I try.
That's always up to you. Some people want to change their work. Leave their mark to exist even after they're gone. Some others just want to make their own lives better. Either way is good and acceptable. What I feel is a waste of human potential is being miserable and not trying to change it.
Planned suicide? That won't actually be suicide i guess. A guy frustrated out of his mind who wants to end his life wouldn't actually take a cab to a government office to receive a lethal injection or sit on an electric chair i guess. He would just jump down from a high building or hang himself. Or he might change his mind on the way and take the cab back home.
But those are personal decisions. We can't decide for everyone out there.

I wonder how you got that from what I described. Is this really what you have to lower yourself to to make yourself feel better? That you are somehow superior to these depressed people?

Maybe because we have different ideas about the chance. Like what DesmondTiny said. Most things I want to fight for are bigger than me. I want to fight the world. I was told if I fight the world, I will lose. I fight the world anyway, but I don't expect to win, not now.
I live and fight because I believe in god.
You really can't. This country >causes< depression. I was never depressed in Ukraine, even though I was bullied a lot and had a lot less stuff. It doesn't make America a bad country per se but you need a different mindset to survive here mentally.
To me of course but I feel it could make sense to more people too
Thank god, if I hate something more than suicidals, its drug addicts
Didn't mean it like that. I ment show them I had a tough time but decided to do something about it. Ignore the bad things and start fresh. That's not showing them I'm in a better place. It's showing them I'm in an equally bad place with a different attitude.
Yeah, it can be a little hard to find but it's worth it. And it can be quite simple too. When I'm melancholic (not as bad as depressed) I usually annoy my cat. He makes me feel better for some reason
Wow, I should really take more classes in psychology, lmao
That's always up to you. Some people want to change their work. Leave their mark to exist even after they're gone. Some others just want to make their own lives better. Either way is good and acceptable. What I feel is a waste of human potential is being miserable and not trying to change it.
But those are personal decisions. We can't decide for everyone out there.

I am going to enjoy this beautiful weather today and head to the beach. It makes me especially happy.
