have you ever used shopbot.ca? try it its just a search engine

OH DAMN they changed their policy, its only 2 items now... it used to be all the items with a 10% price difference reduction, apparently its now 2 items but 25% price difference reduction... sorry for getting your hopes up, i think they just changed recently, my friend bought new sets of components in jan and he was able to match every single component. i guess you just have to find the items thats got the biggest differences to get the most out of it then.
also maybe call them for more information, like returns and for item avalaiblity if there's something you really want but its out of stock right now.
the 650tx is on sale (35 off) at memoryexpress right now but ends on the 30th, just in case you order after the 30th, dont forget to search for a lower price on it
i forgot to ask so you got your own harddrive right? and dont forget to tell us how everything goes once you get everything setup
Yes, I have my own 1 TB harddrive. Since you mention that, is it safe to install Window 7 over my XP installation? (or is it even possible). Having to backup everything, format, and get everything back in would be a major pain.
I only have the one drive but its partitioned in 2 already. (C and F). Windows is on C, which is 80gb. I'm guessing it will format C:\, but keep the rest intact?
yea backup your files and reformat your drive. later down the road when you feel like it, get a 80gb ssd for bootdrive and important programs, i think it'll be a good upgrade to your pc if you intend to keep it for a while.

Totally wanted a SSD for that but those damn things are very expensive.
80gb is pretty good for a bootdrive, windows only take around 40-50gb? and games dont benefit much from ssds. but hey more is always better.
what about parents and relatives? get your friends money first of course
darn well in that case you can still use memoryexpress and since you do separate transactions over a period of times, you should be able to price match more items, so just look for deals. and their shipping policy is free shipping when over $250 and under 50lbs or 5.99 flat rate when under $250 so i think you can manage that easily.
Will it make a huge difference between an i5 and i7. The prices I'm looking at for barebone kits vary quite a bit depending on which of those processors it contains.
well if you are looking at the new sandybridge cpus, the i5 2500 and i7 2600, the performance difference is not that great, and not worth the extra 100 dollars in my opinion. however, if you do encoding and a lot of heavy duty programming that requires hyperthreading, then the 2600 can be justified. both k version processors overclock very similarly, and can easily reach 4.5ghz or more.
and when they are overclocked they match those 975 and 980s which cost 750-1000 dollars...
since the recall of the 1155 socket motherboards been cleared up, most new systems built these days are sandybridge systems, so its probably the best choice at the moment (until amd's bulldozer hits that is... who knows)
Well I reckon most new motherboards I get will allow an upgrade up to the i7 yes? I'm still learning what sandybridge systems are. Especially after just understanding now what an SSD harddrive is.
sandybridge cpus (i3, i5, and i7) all use 1155 socket type motherboards, so if you get a motherboard thats 1155, it'll be able to run all the sandybridge cpus. however, there's different 'levels' of motherboards... the H67, P67, and Z68
H67 does not allow overclocking and allows sandybridge to use its own integrated gpu, which is pretty useless if you plan on playing games
P67 allows overclocking but doesnt have the integrated gpu option (most people go for this one)
Z68 allows both overclocking and integrated gpu (combines H and P) and plus some other features....
anyway yea... its not as complicated as it sounds, either way you'll need to buy yourself a good video card if you plan on playing d3 or any other recent games
What's nice is some of these barebone kits come with mediocre video cards but it would allow me to just get the systemp up and running and then save up money to get a really nice one later on. I think first I might by a hybrid SSD drive and run it in my laptop until I eventually stick it in the new desktop I'm building.
For the record, I'm getting this power supply and this motherboard instead (the former PSU had too much wiring for the case, and that motherboard is a bit better than the other one for the same price).

just give this a read, according to that they wont charge your credit card until they have checked each price match

I should be fine now, I'll wait for my friend's money to order it and we'll see how it goes.

Since I'm used to formatting once every 5 years, a few months from a clean install makes no difference to me.
uh...
how do you make a big transaction when there's nobody I know that can buy anything for more than 300$ with their credit card...?
I'm stomped... I assumed my friend could buy it, but he can't. I don't know anyone that has a limit high enough. And of course, no paypal option.
*sigh*
what about parents and relatives? get your friends money first of course
I'm guessing my only option knowing that is to buy all the parts above individually and build it myself, after all... I literally don't have a choice.
Shipping can be pretty expensive in other places, so I'm happy with 6$.
I also confirm memory express doesn't allow wire transfer, I'd expect this to be true from most places like it.
