As for why I keep this up, and why these are a good thing, is to show that there are people that are not willing to stand by and allow the government to walk all over them.
Granted, eventually there will have to be a more direct course of action, and the American people will have to take back the government physically, but that day is not today.
Link, I'm seriously not trying to be a dick, but I'm at a loss as to how yelling in the street is going to help? I understand the thought is that it will make people change their ways.. but really, do even YOU believe that?
It won't, this protest will go down like Chanology. I admire their dedication, but youth these days do not know how to follow through and elect the wrong people to speak for their cause. I honestly can't see this lasting more than a week, these kids will miss their beds too much.
EDIT: I hes bed gammar.
Your generalization, however founded, offends me. As a youth in NYC I believe there are youth who actually do care. As small of a minority we may be we are here. Not to mention the fact that this shouldn't just be "youth" this should be everyone. It's not like we are the only ones affected here. Yeah we might get hit the hardest later on but this is affecting you me and the rest of America right now. however you're feeling it, you are feeling it. So to people saying "oh the youth are not like how they used to be. they can't do it" Well then stop complaining and do something about it the way you used to do it. How about you get up and show us how it's done so we can follow. I believe in our youth and our countries citizens. It should be all of us standing outside over there to protest. We all should be condemning the way our government is run. But if only a handful of people out of our whole population do it then it is for naught and it isn't a fail based on our wants but a fail on your part for being too lazy to do anything.
ORR, and I'm not trying to start a fight, but if you want it so badly and we others 'can't see what's going on' then it is up to you to motivate us. I don't believe him nor I were attacking you people, I applaud the motive, I just don't believe the way it is being brought about will have any effect.
I applaud the motive, I just don't believe the way it is being brought about will have any effect.
Then show us how to get the effect, or stand aside and let us try what we can. I'm not trying to be mean, but I am so tired of people (Not you, just people in general) saying that this wont work or that wont work or whatever, and never giving any suggestions or ideas or anything.
Okay, a protest doesn't work, what does?
(Again, not trying to attack you directly, this is actually a metaphorical question to the masses.)
I think if this doesn't do anything, it at least keeps raising the spirit of the young to resist and not be drones.
What the last few generations, old and young, have been missing, is awareness. The government doesn't want its people to be aware. A population that is aware and ready to say "no", is one that will eventually have to be shown respect.
Despite what I might have said in certain posts, I think this is a very good thing after all. Its the idea that needs to be spread. Its the mindset. That is what it is really all about. That is what in the long run, really matters.
I went ahead and updated the first post. In addition, I put a link to the live feed in my signature if anybody mislocates the thread.
In addition, if anybody has any spare Dell 1525 batteries or chargers for said batteries, they are in short supply up at the protests, and they need them in order to continue live streams to the internet for the world to see.
Indeed. At least the "youth" is trying to do something. The older generations just sit back and watch how things turn out.
As the old saying goes, "Lead, follow, or get out of the way."
I have to ask a question... what makes you think "the people/youth" would do it any differently? What makes you think that "the people/youth" aren't equally corrupt, or would become equally corrupt? It's easy to sit on the outside and dictate how it should be done or act like you're morally superior. People underestimate the power of human emotion, and emotion will always trump common sense. Would it be okay to skim the bottom line to feed your family? Where you do draw the line? Buying a boat? An island? Would that not be facilitating your families quality of life, while appeasing your need for being loved and acknowledged by those people for how you're providing for them?
I sort of went way off on a tangent there, but the fact is, human beings are inherently corrupt and selfish. It's a wonder of free will. It doesn't matter who has the title of leader, or the affiliation of that person, corruption is inevitable. We can live in a vacuum and claim it shouldn't be that way, but that doesn't change reality. I mean look at Anonymous. They put this facade that their interests are protecting the people... while at the same time, they have no problems leaking innocent civilians personal information and putting millions of peoples livelihoods and quality of life in danger, just to "stick it to the man". All for what? Because they can? Because they're "white hats" and it's justified? Please, Anonymous are selfish, corrupt pigs seeking acknowledgement just like the suits in Wall Street. They're equally intrusive towards people that don't deserve it, just like the government. In my opinion, the end never justifies the means when the means is built upon hypocrisy.
I'm not taking a side here and I'm not saying the supporters are wrong, stupid, etc. While I think anarchy would be a horrible thing, the government should ease back and I can't deny that. My point is mostly surrounding the fact that Anonymous need to figure out a better way to get their voices across and to stop expecting that they (or those they support) would be immune to the corruption. They have a very good point, but the way they've been typically going about expressing it, is extremely childish and unproductive. Have a peaceful protest in NY, great I'll even applaud you for it... but stop being intrusive to people that just like you, don't deserve it.
For the record, this is directed at nobody in this thread. I just wanted to voice my opinion about Anonymous in general. I personally think their protests in NY are a good start, but history doesn't forget.
The baby boomer generation (my generation) literally robbed our kids blind and put them into a debt that will outlast the lives of their grandchildren. And if that were not bad enough, we're now pushing draconian cuts on education and social welfare programs that help young workers, students, and parents get by in tough times all the while letting our roads, dams, and various other infrastructure decay into oblivion. IF the republicans have their way, you'll literally be debt slaves for our retirement programs with nothing to show for it.
The young should be mad. They should be mad as hell.

I don't really know if my generation can do better. However, watching the world go down the shitter is simply not an option at this point. My generation may become equally as corrupt as the current owners of this nation. That being said, I would hope that my children's generation would stand up to my generation. Correction, I would expect them to.
As for skimming the bottom line, no. That's simply dishonorable and immoral. There is always a way.

There is always innocents lost in every conflict. Every general knows that. It is an awful thing, but it is a simple fact. I wish that innocent people wouldn't be hurt in the various conflicts across the globe or through time, but they are, and they will continue to be. All we can do is attempt to harm as few as possible, but sometimes that is simply not an option. (Hiroshima/Nagasaki?)

Well, we can both agree that Anarchy would be a horrible thing. (Yay for something we can agree on!) However, in this world today, it is nearly impossible for a militia to take on the United States Military. Because of this, different routes have to be taken.
Remember, the British viewed the Colonies as childish and barbaric in their manner of fighting in the Revolutionary War.

And while I disagree with nearly everything you said, I am glad that you took time to voice it. Even if people disagree with the way that things like the protest are being handled, at least through responding, we know that people are, in fact, seeing that these things are going on. And that is a big step.
--- EDIT:
And I also want to say that I am glad that you said it in a mature fashion.

good. god. No, this is not trying. this is fucking around. The way these protesters are acting sickens me. Don't give me this 'we have to try SOMETHING' bullshit. Check it out, in that video no ones even actually caring about the reason the protest started. You're just hoping you can catch a cop smacking someone. Seriously, this pisses me off more then the 10 beta invites.
Can you tell me one thing gained from this? 'Publicity!' for what?! Except one muffles series of chants, what did this publicize? That the people don't know the law, and think they are going to sue?
There are definitely no grounds for a lawsuit in that video.
Agreed but why are they being arrested? Did they do something wrong? I forgot it was illegal to speak your mind in the country where we call it "The land of the FREE and the home of the brave"

Well to be fair, that one video doesn't really show what their offense was. It looked to me like a fight broke out, but idk. I'm assuming tho that the police made sure they had grounds to arrest, since there were so many people video taping.

I haven't the foggiest idea, but based on that video evidence they don't have a civil case.
I've flogged my piece on protest (and why I support it), so I don't feel the need to re-iterate. All i'm saying at this point, is that was a painfully sweet love-tap of an arrest.

Why didn't you post the link?!
There were probbaly 50+ people and it's going to be ongoing apparently.
I'd estimate maybe 100?
