hey guys, I was just wondering how the series is in general and if someone like me who has never played them, should pick up IV? I hear its a prequel and in terms of the story it wont matter that much (that i havent played the others). Is there alot of items and customization like normal rpg's? is it one big open world, linear, mission based?
It's linear with open world traveling. The combat system is like the one for the Tales games, in that it's random encounters, but the combat itself is realtime action based. You can change your armor, weapons and accessories like normal RPG's. There's a skill system that allows you to customize traits and stats of your characters. There damage, hp, defense, different abilities to use in combat. The from the first ones on the SNES are the best by far, I'm sure you can get a feel for the combat through a SNES emulator. There's tons of items and weapons and equipment that you pick up throughout the series. If it follows suit, there will be a mixture of futuristic and primitive elements as far as races and people from different planets. But yeah, I recommend you just try the first 2 out on a SNES emulator.
