Game doesn't impress me. Its having a similar feel to ME1 from ME2: obviously dumbed down, but still feel good to have fun anyway. Of course, its not like I'll ever buy this. Overpriced DLC and heck, the thing might not even get the toolset. No money from me. They didn't even include the overhead camera. How sad is that?
Depending on how you play (can play all 3 classes both male/female btw) could be from 40 minutes to an hour.
I can't say which of the 2 i like more, Anathemic. Both The Witcher and Dragon Age: Origins were (technically are) great games when it came to story. But Dragon Age makes more sense to play again since the ending is completely different, no matter what. Annoying was that the character couldn't speak but it's changed for the sequel
Strange, i hear people have problems with the PC demo (some shadows issue when on DirectX11 mode (didn't happen to me) or crashes (didn't have any either - nor frame lag issues).
The game doesn't feel "dumbed down" per se. The demo is on normal, so it's supposed to be relatively easy. Controls are pretty much the same. Only the dialogue option changed, which isn't necessarily a bad thing.
edit: So this is probably going to turn out to be a post of me just alt tabbing and bitching about things I don't like, STAY TUNED FOR MORE GRIPES!
Not even 5 minutes into the game, and it's god awful. Combat is horrible, dialogue is horrible, and the graphics haven't changed since the previous game.
3 words, WASTE OF MONEY.
edit: Oh fuck, wow. Dialogue has been dumbed down so much. Now there's a default of 3 choices, scrolling over each one reveals a little fern leaf (good), a laughing mask (sarcastic/silly, I assume), and a hammer (harsh). The stupid, it burns :(.
editwithinandedit: OH LAWDY, the icons change up. There was one with wings and a halo, the mask again, and a red fist :o.
editedit: Dunno why but the combat reminds me of the old school Power Rangers show. Odd comparison, I know, but thus far there are just hordes of shitty enemies that stand around and flex and twitch, die easily, then a boss comes. Seriously, fucking power rangers.
editeditedit: Yeah, fuck it. I'm done. Bored with this game already, might take another stab at it later.

After finishing it as a fighter, being really close to the end as a rogue and having a mage about halfway through the game i can have some conclusions:
1. The dialogue options did get dumbed down but you finally get a clear view of how you want to make your character. He/she even sounds aggressive/sarcastic/good after choosing too much of the same option.
2. Combat is far better than in Origins. Tactic plays a big part. Neutralizing the most important enemies, using aoe abilities when enemies are clustered etc. Boss fights are also way better. It's more than simple "tank and spank" as it used to be. Design wise, i think it's progress.
3. Graphics have improved slightly (character models at least) since Origins, but you can see it's the same engine. It serves the cause well, though. The spell effects also look better.
4. Locations and monsters. That's what i think made the game less interesting. Far less interesting. From a point on (during the first playthrough) i just didn't look at the locations anymore, or simply went on to check on the all known maps i visited a few quests ago (and then again... and again). I blame EA for this. BioWare had to release the game within 1 year or something after Origins... would have been a far better game if they had variety like in Origins. Same goes with monsters, even though Origins was supposed to be focused on the Blight.
5. NPCs/Companions. Best part of the game. Voice acting (also the fact that Hawke has a voice was a good change) was exceptional. The stories of your companions really made you want to find out more about them (also <3 Isabella and Merril).
Conclusion:
It's definitely not a worthy successor to Origins, but it's a good game nonetheless. I'd suggest getting the GOTY edition with the DLCs when it's released. Should be out around Christmas if EA does their usual thing.
So with some influence from fellow Dfans (thanks Fingol... :pinch: ), I picked up this game and just finished a play through on Hard with a Warrior. I have to agree with the above points - graphics are better, combat is definitely much faster and more intense, and it's not confusing if you missed the first one. The dialog wheel icons threw me off at first (this helped) but in the end it didn't seem to matter much which options I chose. I enjoyed the cameos by some of the Origins characters and getting to see a lot more of the Qunari race since they weren't given much attention the first time around. For the folks who played the first one, the references to Ferelden and Orlais were nice and were threaded well into the plot as they touched upon different social class and racial friction. Unfortunately not being able to choose different starting races to play with was a major downer, and as the plot converged it almost seemed like you could experience multiple endings, but nope - nothing to the degree of Origins. The setting was also disappointing. While it was nice to see your character grow and develop, I really missed traveling to different areas and cities. You pretty much spend your entire time in one location, in which Bioware unconvincingly recycles the same scenes by sealing off different paths. Unfortunately not the kind of immersion that delivers a good experience of East Thades.
Overall this felt more like an expansion pack, unworthy really of the title Dragon Age "2". Verdict: wait until it goes on sale.
I don't know about you guys, but I got the distinct feeling that you could pursue homosexual relationships in the game. I clearly remember having conversation options with the 'heart' icon when speaking to a couple of men (my character was male). I thought that was pretty funny.
All companions are bisexual in the game, so yeah. You can have romance options with all availiable characters. But you don't have to.
I'll agree it's very very hard to get by without a healer, but I played without one and it can be done.
My party consisted of myself (Warrior), Bethany (fire/ice Mage) until she got whacked then replaced with Merrill (Spirit/Primal/Blood Mage), Aveline (Tank), and Varric (Bianca's/Marksman tree).
You pretty much have to go for every crowd control skill and pause combat when cooldowns are up. Quaff a ton of potions and use poisons. Most of the time you can bottle neck crowds and just have Aveline Taunt with +range upgrade, then have her stonewall while Varric uses Hail of Arrows and Merrill uses Tempest. For elite or caster targets, I would just one-shot them with Punishing Lance, and Pommel Strike the rest. Petrify and Horror seemed to work on bosses where other crowd control skills didn't.
The only fight I couldn't do without a healer was the High Dragon in The Bone Pit.
Actually the best healer in the game is... you if you play a mage.
Spirit Healer specialization heals the party just for being near you (a nice +50 health regen aura). Group Heal works better than Anders' (takes one extra skill point, but it's 40% better). You still raise fallen allies and can also make everyone in the party immune to injuries (really important as you can use your money elsewhere).
Also, Aveline isn't the only possible tank. Fenris is far better at it and deals massive damage too. He's also far better against enemies that use magic.
Even when you decide to go one way or the other, if your companion likes you enough, he won't leave. Fenris didn't leave me and fought for the freedom of mages. Isabela returned and gave the relic to the Arishok (quite a few friends didn't have it this way) and Aveline while pissed, stayed with me in the end too.
What's hard is to decide which companions to take with you, cause some of them are hilarious. Varric has some of the best lines around. Same with Isabela, especially when they're together it's like mayhem. Fenris is also fun to have in the group. The only one i haven't tried much is Sebastian from the Exiled Prince DLC.
1) Tatical game + action game camera = fail. Keep changing perpectives is terrible and confusing in this game. To use the terms used by someone before me on this thread: this game still feels like "chess", except you can't see the whole board >_> wtf
2) The graphics made my eyes bleed so much. The effect of fire spells are one of the most disgusting things i've seen in a game for years. Looks like a freaking piece of yellow paper dancing. The light effects are also very, very poor (or inexistent in many parts).
Yea, I played and enjoyed the first, but didn't like this one at all. They tried to make it faster paced and it just made it worse, especially with the skill system where theres so much in the way of the cool skills. It certainly didn't help that they copy-pasted so many areas with different monsters either.
When I saw the credits roll up, and found out the story had ended, it sure as hell felt like being in a porn cinema, and the shutter goes down untill you pop in more coin... oO
