That's right guys! The new (or should I say first) HD console from Nintendo is upon us!
Including a new contoller (that's more like a tablet pc with an HD monitor), motion control, camera and new kinds of games is here! Since I grew up playing Nintendo games I couldn't look away!
Especially the final seconds of the video showing a new HD Zelda game made me wanna buy this console right away!
You know, square controller design, especially large one, is just silly. The grip looks horrible. The joysticks are awkwardly placed. The idea of trying to have a comfortable grip, reach the buttons behind, and have your fingers properly placed for D-Pad and stuff, sounds very, very painful.
I just consider this yet another gimmick, but its closer to a good gaming controller than the Wii ever was (that was awful, beyond disgusting).
But I really think it could use a much, much, much more "gamer" oriented version, with good grips and better button placement, and less focus on that gigantic screen that I don't care about. (why would I want to look away from the screen to look at my controller? Wait, I don't). Its like the DS, either it doesn't use it much and I don't see why it would, or it uses too much and gets in the way of serious gameplay.
And all the other gimmicks they included on that thing which will probably be pricy, well, lets just say I really, really don't care.
Nintendo consoles were always geared toward the kids and I still see no appeal whatsoever to this new console as it is.
Nintendo consoles are geared for the more "casual" gamers. Families especially as I came to notice while I was a salesman. It appears the monitor/controler/weird thing Wii U will have other uses aswell. The usual Wii controller will also be used for Wii U. I found it extremely awesome to use for Zelda and Force Unleashed. Either way, graphics are finally up to date and it seems the new console will actually be "next-gen".
I find that controller really ugly and oversized. I don't get it, Wii U is a different console, or is that a new controller for the Wii? If it is a new console, where is it? They never showed it.
I'm gonna wait until I see more gameplay video, particularly of stuff that isn't going to be the next gen version of wii sports, before I get excited. The new controller has potential, the 25gb disc format has potential (especially if it is capable of of playing blu ray movies).
The over sized super control may not be used for most split screen multiplayer games (at least in the demos one person used the big one, the other used the wiimotes), which leads to the possibility they will have "normal" style controls available for some split screen gaming.
That said, I hope people don't come down on this new controller as being crap to use until they use it. Maybe you don't THINK it won't work, but you don't KNOW it won't work until you've used it. *cough*jake*cough* (unless you have used, than I just look stupid). That said, I am a bit skeptical of the button placement, and of how they have the mini joysticks instead of regular ones. The squareness of the remote doesn't bug me, nor does the size (I've done research on how to hack my 360 controller into a Duke shell...doesn't seem like it will work).
I know that the only hands on write up I saw over on Kotaku had the writer saying that it was actually pretty comfortable, what with that little ridge in the back to hook your fingers between the triggers and the bumpers. So it might not be that bad.
I'm not impressed by it. I sold my Wii after owning it for about a month. All these motion capture devices and touch pad stuff is just too much. Feels really gimmicky. What's wrong with a controller nowadays?

I never warmed up to the Wii, mainly because of the lack of HD. I think my Wii is currently stuffed in a box or something, I honestly don't know where it is.
I think the Wii U looks kind of cool though. When I first saw the controller I was like what the shit is this. Then after watching some videos of it, I think it might have some real potential. It's different, and this I like. What kind of controller will the PS4 or next xbox have? probably something very similar to the current ones, snooze. Not that I don't like them, the PS3 controller is my baby, but it would be nice to change it up a bit. The only thing I'm not too excited about on the Wii U controller are the tiny joystick button things, I don't really like those. I like smashing joysticks, not sliding them.
I am happy to hear that this thing is going to support HD, seems a little late to the party but oh well. If the news to come stays good I might actually consider getting this. It'd be something cute to keep the ladies busy while I play BF3 and D3.

There's a reason for that. Nintendo prefered to use motion controls and get the more casual players, kids, women (or families all together). If they had HD aswell the console's cost would be way too expensive. I recall the Wii costing 249 euro when Xbox 360 cost 349 and PS3 599. No wonder the Wii sold way more.
For alot of games you can just use gamecube controllers on wii. such as super smash and fire emblem.
What are you talking about? I didn't own a Wii, but everytime there was a game of interest that was obviously very easy to make working on a gamecube controller, those Nintendo tards didn't bother, like Mario or Donkey Kong. And when you have to SHAKE the damn thing to make a move, I just puked. This is the kind of things that made me despise the Wii.
There will be a huge Christmas rush for these things for kids to get and play them once and never again. Ring a bell? The Wii? You know you did it too.
There's a lot of people jumping on the bandwagon here. I mean god forbid you actually have to move. As it's been mentioned, the Wii is fun for casual, more social gamers. It's not for people who want to sit down and play halo/COD whatever online for a few hours. It's also value for money. That said I'm happy with the first one for now and am not looking to buy any new consoles at this stage.
I think it's great that Nintendo continues to do their own thing and actually come up with something new and refreshing. Although it may not be perfect for everything it brings something new to the table.
I mean Nintendo could easily just do a regular console, but they won't. Instead they go for something different to put them apart from the competition and aim towards the more casual gamer (which is what they have always done). I don't see anything wrong with this. It makes for some unique gaming experiences.
If you enjoy the kind of stuff that the PS3/Xbox360 brings then you have that, they won't change their concept. If you like what Nintendo does then there's something new coming up which builds on the Wii's "feel".
Everybody wins.

For the video, follow this link. Simply awesome!

Bad. Need handles.
I don't need to use it to know that part.

Change for the sake of change? Oh yeah, that is so useful.
That being said, I don't play many console games anymore, so meh.
Besides, Sony's Vita looks cooler.
