SHIT SHIT SHIT THERE'S SOMETHING IN THE WATER! SHIT SHIT OH FUCK OMG OMG OMG FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK THE SCREEN IS RED! OMG ITS BEHIND THE DOOR. FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCK!
If you've played Amnesia, you know what what said above is pretty standard for this game. Amnesia is a suspenseful horror game that absolutely masters its genre. I can safely say it is the scariest game I've ever played, beating Silent Hill, Call of Cthulu, System Shock, etc. I could also say that it is probably the scariest game ever made. Now why do I say this?
Well... did Silent Hill have reaction videos to how fucking terrifying it is?
To get the general idea of Amnesia, I'll tell you a brief summary of what the game is. The year is somewhere in the late 1800's and ou are Daniel and, a man who suffers from Amnesia and cannot remember what has happened to him. He awakes to find himself in a castle. Equipped with nothing but a lantern, you find yourself in a fight for your life against enemies you cannot fight, but just run away from and hide. The surroundings play with your mind and manipulate the light, shadows, sounds, etc. Light is your greatest friend to stop yourself from going insane, but as you stand in the light, you are easily scene by the horrific monsters patrolling the castles.
Everything about this game is absolutely terrifying. If you wish to try it, there is a free download of the demo of the game here:
I watched a lets play of it by Airandius who is a formerly active member here that I would strong recommend if you do not want to purchase the game yourself, but are still interested in it.
Here is a link to the first video in the series if anybody is interested.
However I recently purchased it while it was on sale for halloween on steam, in hopes that I could get my roommate to play it and I could watch and make fun of him, but he has wimped out so I may be playing it myself sometime soon.
I am far in the game, but I find myself not wanting to play it because it's so terrifying. I'll definitely have to see the Let's Play of that, but I highly suggest you DON'T watch it if you're new. The game is so amazing if you don't know what's coming.
I only played this game for a bit before uninstalling it. The weird video effects were kind of giving me a headache. I'd actually like to get back into it eventually but right now this isn't the game for me. It actually does look like a game that's fun to play while sitting with someone too.

It's a game extremely fun to play with someone, but it's scarier when you play by yourself. It's honestly way better than any of the other games that are just a bunch of cliches thrown in one shit bucket. It masters what makes scary games scary.
Yeah it's a cool genre. I think though if you were the kind of person who didn't like being touched or have someone whisper in your ear it could really drive you crazy.
They mention that game in this new article on Giant Bomb.
I'm playing through this with some friends atm.. Honestly because I'm too freaking scared to play alone, and it's funny to watch your friends poop their pants.. while pooping your own.
It's awesome indeed. I generally don't like scary games that much (refer to above pant-pooping sentence) but this is just so well done, the quality of the gameplay is just superb.. And we haven't even made it very far (about 2 hours into the game). Highly recommended.
Right now I'm at the Storage and I rage quit'd when I reached the door that when you walk by it you hear it try to burst open. I actually have my reaction on my phone and I might post it on youtube

Oh my yes :(..
The amazing thing with the game is that they make your imagination and emotions go wild by just telling you the right amount of info. Not to much, not to little. You go read a sign that says "Storage" and immediately you imagine a damp, dark basement filled with potential monster hideouts and you just want to hunch up and cry..
At least that's me. I'm a sissy when it comes to scary games though
The storage begins as it says that the darkness feels "strange and unnatural". Everything has an eerie fog to it, and the music just gets to you. You get scared checking every corner. It's so dark and you spend more time in a corner than actually exploring. This is the most underrated game of all time.

To get the best effect, I suggest you play at night alone with headphones. Oh, and record yourself playing and post it on youtube and share.

And you've played Amnesia? If so then kudos to you..
If you thought Half-Life was scary then Amnesia will make you lose your bowels.
Aye.. Amnesia takes Half-Life's bowels, tears them out, rips them to parts, puts them back again and make you shit them out..
In terms of scariness that is.
