So Dead Space 2 just got a 9.0 on IGN. The first game was amazing, and if any of you are missing truly being scared by a video game its definitely one to check out. The second one will hopefully be equally as frightening. My only complaint about the first one would be that after a point, you almost get numbed to the horror. That and you get powerful enough weapons that you start to just mow down the Necromorphs. That being said, I did play the game on Normal, as I didn't think I would be able to handle the combination of scariness and difficulty (I was probably right).
One of my favorite features has to be the minimal UI. For example, your ammo is displayed on a small box located on your weapon, and your health is a divided tube on the back of your suit (makes more sense when you look at the images below).
Haven't finished Dead Space 1 but for the time i played it, i definitely found it worth the time. Always have the feeling you're threatened when playing!
Dead Space 1, for me, had 2 absoluty fatal and ridiculously stupid flaws. This was on PC.
-Couldn't see ANYTHING left of my character. From what I understood, its mostly because I was using a standard 4:3 monitor, not a widescreen, and the game had no way to adapt to this. I just couldn't see to my left. Bullshit.
-The guy was always on the left side of the screen. I can't stand 3rd person games that forces the character to always be on the god damn LEFT. Right and middle is so much more natural. An option or a way to switch is the best.
Yup. Thats about it. Looked like a nice game, but thats 2 flaws I could not get passed. And I'd bet DS2 is the same just to piss me off further. I also think the game had serious input issues. Its apparently an horrible PC port.
I can't fucking wait for this game, I haven't beat the 1st one yet (plan to do so tonight) but so far it has scared the shit out of me. Definately a day 1 purchase.
OK!!! so i just beat the game in about 7 hours on casual and trust me the game is worth every single penny. this game is scary as fuck, and the story is great weird and thrilling. Just when you least expect shit it is there. 10/10 for me. gunna go get DS1 just to play that right now

The reason he beat it so quickly was because it was on casual, and some people just play games faster than others. Like me, for example, will beat a game that normally takes 10 hours to beat in about 14 or 15. Ya dig?
Dead Space is a 7/10 game in my book. It's a good game with good production values. However it's way too repetitive (allways the same ambient and allways doing very, very similar quests) and the scary factor tends to vanish because you're allways facing the same kind of threat.
From what I've heard DS2 ain't scary at all. It's more action focused. Can anyone confirm this?
It's pretty fuckin scary, in an atmospheric and constant threat kind of way. They really improved the pacing too so it's a lot more difficult to predict when the Necromorphs are going to attack. Like how in the 1st game you always knew when you entered a new room that you were going to be attack, that's not the case in DS2 pretty unpredictable.
Apparently Magicka is more popular than DS2. More people are playing it on Steam.
Honestly, the first one wasn't scary for me at all. Only after an hour or so Plasma Cutter turned into the god damned Hand of God. It ruined the mood since you could effectively twoshot everything.
Yeah, ... on easy mode. Go into the harder modes and your maxed plasma cutter isn't as effective, and try actually finding ammo for it because it gets a lot mroe scarce. One to me was scarier, idk what setting you played it in but I played it at midnight- 6 a.m all lights off with my trittons on full blast so when somethign comes at you from behind or in a dark corner it fucking makes those creepy sounds loud and its chilling, plus on my screen i had to turn my brightness OFF because it said put it so where you can barely see the image and i had to turn off brightness to get it that way. The scariest part of that game was the last cutscene...
When you are on the ship and you relax, i thought it was over and I was liek yes! i finally beat it, then you look to the side and your bitch of a girlfriend pops out at you at 6.am in pitch black it was fucking scary.

Well Steam isn't a good place to judge how popular a game is, especially considering most of the people playing Dead Space are playing it on a console, and even if thats not true, Magicka is PC exclusive while DS2 is on the PS3, 360 and PC, so the amount of people playing it on PC isn't the total number.
And as far as two shotting necromorphs, you must've been playing it on a lower difficulty, because even on Normal (or whatever the middle difficulty is), the Plasma Cutter was never a two-shot weapon for me except maybe on the regular cannon fodder, and in groups they could still overwhelm me. And if you played it on low sound you missed out on half the atmosphere. Not to mention picking up those recordings you find throughout the ship.
Got DS2 for PS3 and I'm playing Extraction, the prequal that came with it and that's very cool as well. Playing it with the move =). Looking forward to starting DS2 after.

Then you're terrible at aiming. A maxed Plasma Cutter can two-shot everything that isn't a boss.
Damn Turm, idk what game you were playing but if you can magically two shot everything on max difficulty with a fucking plasma cutter you clearly aren't playing the Dead Space we are talking about.
Yeah turmobil I hit them twice and its still not a two shot kill on normal, casual yes, normal mode no. The seeker however is a different story as yes that is a two shot gun.

the zero-gravity parts were sure interesting.
"to the worm in horseradish, the world is horseradish."
I hope DS2 fix most of those issues.
