I'm an old school Diablo/Diablo 2 player (still have my vanilla 1.0 CDs, lol) who never had a chance to play D3 until now. I recently got a Nintendo Switch Lite so I decided to try D3. I have some quick early game strategy questions. Should I be focusing on accumulating as much gold as I can/upgrading my blacksmith/salvaging? It appears all damage you do is linked to your weapon so I guess I would need to grind until something viable drops. Normal mode is very easy so it's not like weapon damage seems to matter unless I up the difficulty level. Is this true? Also, I was planning to play thru the game in campaign mode the first time just to experience the story. After that should I jump straight into adventure mode or wait until I'm level 70? I'm sure these questions are asked over and over again but any advice would be helpful, even things you would recommend that I didn't ask about. I'm so used to D2 that the game dynamics are still a little weird to me. The graphics are way cool tho.
Weapon damage is your main source of damage when it comes to leveling, always try to aim for a high base damage.
At lvl 70 the damage will be coming from the legendary effects that will increase the damage of your skills.
I wouldn't worry to much about your blacksmith, you'll notice that it primarly is used to salvage your items.
After you have done the campaign there is no need to stay there, I would dive right into adventure mode because you will need the materials from bounties. Also Rifts and Greater rifts is a great way to farm items.
