I'm ok with this, All that did was set up for people creating dupes in game.
That's one way to look at it however there are tons of people that really enjoy playing D2 on TCP/IP with friends/family so that they can enjoy the pure D2 experience instead of having to go on toxic battle.net where people will have unfair advantages anyway. And them shutting down TCP/IP gameplay really only means that they've given up and/or are unwilling to commit more resources into making it 'safe', as they say. Besides, they promised.
And by now they've surely found a way to ensure that duped items from local gameplay won't make it into the online game anyway - this coupled with the fact that there WILL be hacks and bots online again just makes me think that there's no good reason for them to go back on their promise.
Well it doesn't matter anyway, they are just greedy fucks, that don't let to play families on one copy, for example people that wanna play lan with friends or with their kids/partners etc. Will need a seperate copy of the game. Not to mention beta itself should be fun with all the ddos and darknet groups targeted at blizzard after last scandal xD
Because of this, it removes some dupe methods, it's not allowed because of GDPR and IP is personal information, and anti-piracy.
They all make sense, and I'm not sure what snowflakes are still playing tcp/ip nowadays with fibre being the norm...
It really gets outweighed by what it actually fixes / prevents..
If there's something I'd want ....it's a bot free game, as people tend to ruin everything nowadays.
A lot of the longevity of the game for many was mods, and I wonder how this will impact that. I played almost exclusively on retail, but I know there are many people that are passionate about modding it.
I think they could have made everyone happy by just saying if you want TCP/IP, your character cannot use Battle.net. Keep them separate like the old days, locally stored, anything you do to screw with your game and cheat is on you. This would also mean no crossplay, I believe, which is one of their selling points.

Ridiculous. What's next? Online play only and Shakos in an in-game store?
