on the topic of Diablo and not torrents *cough* in some ways, i still do actually lik diablo better than diablo II, and have played it online fairly recently, although i don't like how you can't get quests on bnet
I kid you not, i never got past him. Ever. Im seirous, he would just own me. I would make sure every last corner of every level before him was clear, and he would rape me. So thanks to the damn butcher, i never got to play diablo 1
i seriously reckon a bunch of us should start playing diablo 1 online. That would be wicked. Any takers?
dude. i got diablo when it first came out, and then when it came out for playstation i bought that too (i didn't have internet at the time so i really just wanted to play with a friend :'(
the playstation version was ok (limited quests, horrible load times, and took up almost a whole memory card) but it was diablo so it rocked.
p.s. jarhead... best way to beat butcher was get your dex up, grab a bow, and hide behind a grate shooting him... or not be a pussy.

btw- how in the hell can you guys be diablo fans without ever playing the first one? if it weren't for the first one, i wouldn't have given 2 fucks about diablo 2, and i probably wouldn't be wasting my time on this site (maybe that's a good thing lol) i was like 10 when diablo came out, and my dad bought it for me because we both played warcraft (number 1). yeah. that game changed my life (not really) but i wasted a lot of hours on it.

I've been playing it these past few nights. One thing I forgot about was just how creepy the music is in it. Especially when you get to the last four levels.
yeah. i just started playing it again a few days ago too.
Is it just me, or is diablo 1 better than 2?
Maybe it's just sentimentality, or the randomized quests, but i love me some diablo 1.
The random quests were great. It just made sense that as you explored the labyrinth you would come across different things or characters that would end up being a quest. Like Lachdanan, or Gharbad the Weak. Most of those quests were totally inconsequential to the game, but it still gave the experience a bit of spontaneity that made the game more interesting.
I remember getting all excited in Diablo 2 when I first got The Countess quest, cause you got it from reading the book just like you got many quests in the first Diablo. And I was thinking this was gonna be cool cause I was gonna get a lot more quests in this way, but that was the only one.
yeah. don't get me wrong d2 is amazing, but i couldn't help but find that it was too linear. in d3, i want it to be more random, less linear, and for god sakes, let's get rid of acts. it would be so cool, if you could travel to different areas regardless of quest completion, and if you had to travel back and forth between areas for quests. (mushroom quest ring any bells?)

hm.. that makes me want to start diablo anew... instead of getting rushed thru all 3 level w/e.s. and then just doing runs and shit.. im going to (wait for it) WALK thru the acts. and fight all those demons with a mighty sword!! zeal their asses!!
it seems so much more exciting =/ im gonna do it once i get windows installed.
i just want to get lucky with wirt. (not gay) i remember one time i got some godly plate mail (i don't remember what else was on it--not whale i never hacked and this was single player) from wirt. i nearly kissed his pixelated dick.

Well, if you saw some of the latest gameplay clips of Starcraft II, they talk about how the gameplay is going to be less linear and more open-ended. Being that you can travel to different planets, take on different missions...you know, instead of them all being one after another with no options otherwise.
It's just Blizzard evolving I think. And I think they will want to incorporate some of that open-endedness into Diablo 3.
I did the mushroom quest today actually. It's cool cause after you gather it, you talk to Adria and she tells how you Pepin needs the brain of a demon. After you talk to Pepin about it, the first thing you go back down to fighting, a monster appears and he's the one that you collect the brain from.
yeah. the first time, i just thought i was really lucky (i thought there was one random demon that you got the brain from) but then after getting it first try on my next 20 games with that quest i realized it was meant to be like that.
damn i love diablo.

the fact that your location is a date... and that your avatar has never been answered as to what it is...
I've addressed questions regarding my avatar. As for my location, well, that would be telling indeed.

It's always from those ramming horned demons that you get it from isn't it?
In the first Diablo, are those last four levels technically Hell? Cause it's not like it's all fire and brimstone like in Diablo II. It's more just spikes, bones, and tons of bodies hanging on hooks.

just the layout of hell, and lack of monsters in pre-expansion.
