I have killed every single monster on the first three levels, now I am supposed to beat king leoric but I don't know how.
I literally used about 24 health potions and attacked him constantly, but I simply could not beat him. I don't know how to tell how much health he has, so I don't even know if I am damaging him.
Normally, I would try to level up some more, but I already killed all the monsters, what do I do!?!?
If your character is a lower level, which I can assume it is at the moment, you might try a couple things. Either bypass King Leoric for now and go back to him once you're level is higher, or you might just want to unleash several Holy Bolts on him. Both the Butcher and King Leoric are a bit harder than the levels they are on. Few people who encounter them their first time are actually able to kill them without first venturing further in the labrynth, getting more exp, then coming back to kill them.
If you have a bow, go to the fence before opening it and keep shooting until you accidentally hit Leoric and he comes over and you just slowly kill him.
Holy Bolt. It can be used much in the same way as Equinox suggests with the bow. Only it will do more damage.
In D1 Holy Bolt does what it is suppose to do, double damage against unholy creatures such as demons and the undead. Holy Bolt pwns Diablo. Sadly this spell got nerfed in D2. It's a shadow of its former righteous self.
Alternatively you can use a weapon with fast or very fast attack speed. Leoric uses a sodding great big sword. He attacks slow, but to make up for this speed deficit, he steals life (via the Undead Crown). If you can do more damage over a period of time that he can you will best him with ease.
I guess the other problem is he is not alone. But his minions are far weaker than he is. Just run around constantly whacking the fodder till you get him down to a one on one.
Well in Single Player anyways, in multiplayer he can summon guys too.

-Humankind cannot gain anything without first giving something in return. To obtain, something of equal value must be lost. That is alchemy's First Law of Equivalent Exchange. In those days, we really believed that to be the world's one, and only, truth.
Well, you are a warrior, so i suggest you to buy a staff of holy bolt. You can buy it with Adria (the witch). I she has no one go to the dungeon and return to the town, and she will change items.
No. Not in Diablo 1. That is why the "life bar" was instituted in D2.

After the stealing of fire,Zeus became increasingly unkind to men.One day he ordered his son Hephaestus tobuild an image of a beautiful maiden out of clay.He then asked the gods and goddesses to award her with different kinds of gifts.Among others,Athena clothed her in an attractive coat and Hermes gave her the power of telling lies.A charming young lady, she was the first woman that ever lived.Zeus called her Pandora.Because she had received from each of the gods and goddesses a gift. The gift was harmful to men. Zeus decided to send her down to men as a present. So Hermes them essenger brought her to Epimetheus, brother of Prometheus. The greatness of her beauty touched the hearts of all who looked upon her,and Epimetheus happily received her into his house. He had quite forgotten Pometheus' warning:never to accept anything from Zeus. The couple lived a happy life for some time. Then trouble came on to the human world. When he was busy with teaching men the art of living,Prometheus had left a bigcask in the care of Epimetheus. He had warned his brother not to open the lid.Pandora was a curious woman. She had been feeling very disappointed that her husband did not allow her to take a look at the contents of the cask. One day, when Epimetheus was out,she lifted the lid and out itcame unrest and war,Plague and sickness, theft and violence, grief sorrow, and all the other evils. The human world was hence to experience these evils.Only hope stayed within the mouth of the jar and never flew out.So men always have hope within their hearts.More fable. Thanks for all the help guys, I guess I will just venture further inward and then I will come back to kick his bony ass.
The reason I couldn't beat him must have been the life steal. (I was attacking him constantly for 5-6 minutes)
Is there any way to tell the health of your opponents?
Haha, yea quite a useful invention
