Sorry for all the recent threads, but I just bought the game and am loving it
1. How can you tell the health of your opponents, (I can never tell how much damage I am doing to bosses)
2. If you drop an item in town, and go back into the dungeon, how long will that item stay there?
3. I am currently the warrior, what skillbooks (if any) should I read?
4. What happens when you read the town portal skill book for a second time?
5. Is there a way to run? I feel like a snail when walking diagonally.
Thanks in advanced.
1. I don't think you can.
2. Indefinitely, unless you're in a multi-player game where someone else could pick it up.
3. Everything that you are interested in using, that you are able to read. You'll reach a ceiling, since the warrior is limited in magical ability. The chain-lightning spell is my favorite.
4. Your spell level increases. In the case of Town Portal, I believe it just decreases the mana cost.
You could download Hellfire if walking is too irksome for you- it's not an official Blizzard expansion but is basically regarded as such by the community. Anyway, it allows you to run, and has a spell that reveals the items on the floor. I never used it, but that's what I've read about it. It doesn't change any other core gameplay elements, I don't think, besides adding some quests.

Well, you can run in Hellfire (the true is that you walk fast), but only in the town. Hellfire lets you go to another dungeon, have some new items and enemies, and use the monk... but I really prefer Diablo without this expansion.
I've heard bad things about hellfire from a couple of my friends, but maybe if I get bored of classic I will give it a try.
I heard bad things (after I had already been playing the game for a good while), myself, and honestly, whatever those things are (I can't recall them, exactly; glitches of some sort, I think), they aren't major enough to dissuade me from playing the game to this day, while enjoying it just as much as I do Diablo, and Diablo II.
Yea, apparently, there were quite a few glitches, and sierra only came out with one patch that only fixed a couple of them. Since, blizzard isn't making the game, they can't come out with new patches (would they even bother now lol)?
The lack of multi-player has never been a deterrent for me; I play single-player on the other games (D1, D2), most of the time, anyway.
And, @Bloodlust... I know the glitches were bothersome to most, but they've never been noticeable to me. I still love the game for the extra little bit that it offers.
I will admit, I'm not as critical of any of the games in this series as most of you seem to be, regarding the little flaws, here and there, so maybe that is why I am not as harsh on Hellfire as most... but that may be because Diablo is the only franchise that has been able to capture, and hold, my interest since the Atari 5200 died out.
Feel free to give me grief, but I can't seem to get in to all of the games that most of you play today (I own none of the contemporary consoles, or hand-helds). Once Diablo came along at the tail-end of '96, I lost interest in whatever else was/is out there; nothing else has been able to ensnare me, since.
Anyway...
If you like Diablo (the original) anywhere near as much as I do, giving Hellfire a chance won't be a waste of your time. Give it a try.
Question about the ending: When the hero sticks the soulstone into his/her forehead, do they do so willingly or does the dark lord have some influence over them. Surely, they didn't honestly thing they, a mortal, could manage the most powerful demon in the diablo universe.
Also, is it safe to assume that prince Albrecht died (considerng he had a gouging wound in his forehead)? Or was he alive because he was breathing, and the wound bears a striking similarity to a frontal lobotomy

Good questions. There may be some difference in opinion on this. But I personally believe (also has been suggested by NPC dialogue) that the Warrior at the end simply felt he had what it took to contain Diablo, so he did it willingly. He figured if he did not self-inflict the Soulstone on himself, then Diablo would maybe lure another weak minded individual later on and carry on with his plan. The Warrior was merely foolish in underestimating Diablo, though his intentions were honorable. And I don't think he did it so much out of pride.

Pretty safe to assume he died, yes. He was saved, but he still died.
It's always been my belief that the hero was influenced by Diablo's essence.
The other opinion, that it was a willing attempt to contain Diablo, makes some sense, as well, but the other makes more sense to me. I think the hero felt that he could contain Diablo because he was nefariously tricked into believing it.

Probably. I don't think Diablo planned to come to full power with Albrecht. But then again, he couldn't successfully take control of Leoric in his weakened state. And I always figured right after you defeat him at the end that he is again in a very weakened state. So sometimes I think he was just incredibly lucky that the Warrior was willing to put the Soulstone into his head.
And I think the Warrior also felt he knew enough about the Soulstone and Diablo to do this without Diablo being able to ultimately triumph over him. The Warrior never wanted glory or rewards, but he still may have been proud enough to believe in something about himself that he could contain such a powerful demon.
I'm sure Diablo coerced him a bit, yes. But perhaps even Soulstones themselves are somewhat magnetic to other souls and that's why you wouldn't even want to touch one. Not that Marius ever seemed to have the desire to put the stone in himself. But then, Baal was walking around in physical form so the circumstances of holding the Soulstone must have been entirely different.

5. No.
And thanks for the advice Anakyn.

1. You don't know, that's where the fun lies in finding out yourself.
2. If you're talking about single player than forever, that's if you don't start another game.
3.Read any that you can, they all help.
4.The skill is improved. It costs less mana to cast.
5. Nope, or at least not in the original.
To find the truth, you must risk everything.

Siaynoq's Playthroughs
he did willingly put a soulstone into his head
then after some party or whatever after he returned from killing diablo the others started noticing differences in the hero
then he traveled west
whether he killed everyone cept cain in the village before he left or not is pretty much unknown
diablo also did trick him
since all the information the hero knew only led to the conclusion to beat diablo you had to contain his soul within your own body
but cain found more information in d2 so he found out your supposed to destroy the stones instead
so diablo took over the body of the hero in D2 and made that his real body kinda like he did with albrect lol
now considering all the soulstones are broken and all the prime and lesser evils save 2 lesser evils are all dead
cain goes back to tristram to discover why some girl foresees diablo's return
thats basically the broken down version so far
the last bit is just how it is now but like anything else involving D3 it could change at any time
and since thats the first trailer it probaly will xD
and the 2 other lesser evils noone knows if they are dead or alive lol
but they were powerful enough to lead an assault and destroy the prime evils so we might finally get to fight them in this game yay xD
Be my Buddy =^.^=
