This is a small series of events that ride along side the events of Diablo 2 (not officially of course) and I thought you might like them. Don't be hatin' cause this is all off the top of my head.:P

To Lut Gholein And so The Wanderer turned and saw the figure of a man begin to come into form through the haze of the desert wind.
"Who d'you s'pose that is?" Marius spoke.
"Perhaps a trick of the sand."
The form quickly became more visible, revealing a man in the heavy garb of a Rofl. He struggled against the mighty wind, striking the sand with a Standard. Its tattered flags showed the sign of a War Staff. He raised his head to see the two men through his helm staring at him. The Wanderer quickly grabbed Marius' wrist, and pulled him with him into the thick of the sandstorm.
"What're you doing?!" Marius spoke.
"We can't be stopped now, not when we have made such a trek."
"You can't stop him?"
The Wanderer stopped and grabbed Marius by his shoudlers.
"Don't think I can?!?!?!"
"No, no, no, I n-never said that."
"Well then walk."
The tired soldier lowered his head again and began to follow. He knew he has to stop him at all costs. He went into their midst to find that the closer he came to them, the more intense the storm became, making his visibility decrease dramatically.
It was the next night that he found a lit fire just over the ridge. Lut Gholein shined before it as a beacon of hope. He crept over to a dead tree, feet away from the two men. He came closer and found them both asleep. He crawled over to Marius' backside and put his hand over his mouth. A muffled cry was let out, but he calmed down after looking over.
"W-who are you?"
The soldier removed his helm to show the face of a stern man.
"I am Liataun, an emmissary of the Rofls."
"Why have you been following us?"
The man nodded his head over to The Wanderer. "He is... an interest to my people." Marius knew not to ask, for he knew his assumptions were correct.
"Are you taking him now?"
"No, I cannot until the group I am traveling with makes it here. I need to ask you for a favor."
"What is it?"
"I need you to stay with this man, as if I never was here."
"I don't know if I can do that Liataun."
"You must; it is vital that he suspects nothing out of the ordinary."
He looked at Liataun, with a face aged with anxiety; his eyes sunken into his sockets, and skin blotched with dirt and discolorment, seen quite clear in the light of the fire.
"Okay. I will stay. Do you know where he will go?"
"He will go to a tomb, in the desert, and find someone of great importance there."
"I don't think I can sleep now."
"You already are."
Marius raised his head off the sand and looked around him. The mysterious knight had disappeared. The fire was blazing much brighter, and The Wanderer was staring into it. "Now you know what I seek Marius; this is my brother. Sleep now, we set out with the dawn."
Marius had remembered a vision of the Archangel Tyrael, somehow, but could not connect it yet. He knew he would understand this dream later. Or was it a dream?
Fortold Misunderstandings Marius walked through the Canyon, thankful for it being a canyon rather than a desert. The Wanderer led him to a tomb, like the knight had prophisized two nights ago. There was a stone tablet outside of it, showing a circle with a crescent cupping it on the underneath side. A cool air seemed knock him back a bit, blanketed by the complete darkness inside. He pulled a torch from his bag and lit it. The Wanderer began inside, troubled not by the dark. Marius saw ancient scriptures on the walls and pillars, and suddenly remembered how safe he felt at the fire, by the soldier. What was his name? Litanus? Latanus? The name had escaped him.
"We're here."
The Wanderer removed his cloak from his head, and fell to his knees as he let out a mortifying scream that echoed through the chambers.
I saw now, the important 'someone' that the soldier spoke to me about.
He moved with demonic speed, over a bridge of planks, to the center of the room, where an island was that held a large stone, with runes inscribed onto it, and a strangely mutilated man stood, strapped to it by his own self. He wailed at the sight of us. Fire filled the trench around the island.
Before he could reach the center, a bright light emerged from behind the stone, and it was Tyrael. He threatened The Wanderer, told him to stay back, and they began to fight.
Marius couldn't watch it, for he was entranced by the man on the stone. He walked towards him, as if under a spell. The possessed man spoke to Marius, told him something, and then Marius pulled a yellow-glowing stone from his breast.
Tyrael left the fight and raised Marius into the air. He told him to do something, and as Marius ran from the chamber, he heard, "Take the stone and run!"
Tyrael turned to see Baal cast his tentacles at him. Diablo grabbed Tyrael and together they harnessed him to the stone. They sealed the doorway, and then they left after Marius, at the sound of Tyrael cursing their names.
He dipped his head as the hours passed. He could hear a creature nearby dragging on the dirt. It could talk, and its voice was demonic, it was talking to Diablo. He couldn't make any words out though, through the walls.
Soon he heard a wall crumble, and heard the sounds of swords and arrows. Thunder boomed throughout the tomb. A group of seven or eight people walked around the corner, and saw the defeated Tyrael. A knight came forward, and he talked to Tyrael.
"I am Liataun, emmissary of the Rofl's. Where is Baal?"
"I'm afraid he broke the bond between him and Tal Rasha."
"Then that means Diablo is united with his brother. I am too late."
"Where will they go?" Spoke a dark woman with black hair.
"They will try to free Mephisto, in the land of Kurast."
"Khalim wrote to my order a month ago, and told us that Mephisto is well guarded." Spoke another knight.
"You must confirm that. Go to the temple-city Travincal, and find him."
"Okay." The group began to leave, when Tyrael called out to them.
"One more thing. I understand that you traveled back to Tristram not too long ago. Did you find a man by the name of Deckard Cain?"
"Yes. He was suspended in a gibbet, but we freed him, and he's been travelling with us ever since we left Khanduras."
"Thank god he is safe. I will meet you all again in the near future. Now make haste to Kurast!"
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Plight of Kurast "We have to go, Shikra."
"Go? What has happened?!?" Del Krishna looked deeply into Shikra's eyes, seeing nothing but innocence.
"The Zakaurmite's of the temple have become livid with the presence of a demon. They beheaded Khalim."
"What? Are you saying that he has grasped his control over t-them?"
"It seems that way. We are not safe here. My uncle Alkor has set up a small trading business down on the docks."
"But that's a journey of days!"
"We would fair better out there, where I know we can protect ourselves, than under the watch of murderers. The corruption stops outside these walls. I know it."
"How? How do you know it? Did one of those fallen bodies out there tell you it?" Shikra began to cry. Del Krishna walked over to her, and held her tight.
"Remember, when we would walk down the paths, and what'd you call this place?Your Shangri-la?"
"...beneath the summer moon." He looked at her and rubbed her tears away.
"We will return again. They cannot take everything away from us." There was a loud roar from the jungle. Del Krishna picked up his machete. "But right now, we have to leave while it's safe enough to." A tree stump was heard falling. "The tree spirits are descending themselves."
----Back on the Twin Seas----
"This storm is not supposed to be here, I assure you!" Meshif, the captain of the ship, bellowed over the gusts of wind and torrent. The heroes held themselves to the ship with whatever they could find. "It shouldn't be long now! I can see Kurast in midst!"
Liataun stumbled over to Meshif, "Come inside so we may talk!" Meshif nodded and went into the Captain's cabin.
"Drink?" Liataun shook his head. "Well, what do you need to talk about?"
"I wanted to thank you for your services to this enterprise."
"Oh, it's my pleasure. I've wanted to go back to Kurast anyway. I was born there, you know?"
"How long has it been?"
"I left when I was just a young tike. I didn't really leave, the sultan of that time came to Kurast and demanded first borns, so.."
"I did not know, I am sorry."
"No, please. Lut Gholein was like a second home to me. The healer, Atma, she took care of me. She's like a mother to me."
"Can I ask you something?"
"Sure."
"What happened to Geglash?"
"Oh. It's a bad story. five years ago, when we first started to be attacked by overgrown worms and beetles, Geglash was one of the former sultan's guards, and he was sent out everyday to fend them off. He was the best at what he did; nothing got back up after he was done with it. And one day, while fighting a beetle in The Hills, he was electrocuted somehow, we don't know how. But ever since then, he's been scared of ever leaving town, and he's been pacified by his alcohol."
"I see. So when did Jehryn arrive to Lut Gholein?"
"Oh, he was the son of some nobility. A chancellor or something. But when Aykrizo died, he was the only one qualified to take over. Not to mention the only one unfrightened by the terror that came with the job. He is too young if you ask me."
"I thought he was a servant of the sultan when I saw him."
"Many say that, but-" BOOM! Outside, screams of help were heard. Meshif quickly ran outside, followed by Liataun, to discover a giant sea monster had ripped a mast off the ship. "Aim for the eyes! They're weak in the eyes!" A green frog the size of a cub jumped onboard. Meshif ran to the end of the boat for his harpoon. He threw it, and it skewered the frog in the eyes.
Deckard Cain poked his head out from the cabin. "Go back inside, it's not safe out here." And he poked his head back in."
"Liataun, we need you over here!" The others were contending with the threshing tentacle of the beast, cutting it and stabbing it. It did no good. Meshif withdrew another harpoon and walked over to them.
"In the eyes! I said in the eyes!" He held it up, pulled his arm back, and targeted the head of the beast. He flung it. It struck it in its left eye, and a howl resonated over the rush of the tide. The giant tentacle whipped in the air before it descended into the murky blue.
The storm seemed to clear with it's exit. Everyone sat down where they stood and tried to relax their hearts. Chargo looked up at Meshif and said, "Sorry."
"It is quite alright, barbarian, but I cannot continue the voyage without that mast."
"No, look." Serima pointed to land, for they had made it to Kurast docks.
"What about that?" Macicholli pointed to the frog.
"I will give it to Hralti to make some armor from it's hide; if he's still there."
The heroes moored the ship, and went into the small dock-town of the Kurast docks. Many people stopped and watched as Meshif lift the frog into the air on a line of rope so it could bleed out.
But even more people watched as seven magnificent people, or some sort of super-race of people, walked into the center of town. Nrigsal was helping Cain from the ship's passenger cabin. "What a bumpy ride," he remarked. "I'm glad we all made it here in one piece."
"Arent we all," Nrigsal said. When everyone was in the center of town, a fellow of the black magics welcomed them.
"We'll rest here as a base." Cain said, "just be careful; the Zakarumite's are not ones to be so humble these days." Two heroes, Chargo the barbarian, and Zygmahn the necromancer awoke just before dawn to the sounds of anarchy in the jungle.
"We won't be safe here for long," spoke Zygmahn.
"Pinautus traveled out into the jungle to look for some blade last night; Ormus said it would protect the docks, but I am uneasy."
"Look! To the edge of the dock!" Out into the wilderness they spotted Pinautus carrying two people on each shoulder. A group of pygmies were running after him. He had between his teeth the Gidbinn.
Through clenched teeth, he said, "Get the f*ck out here!" He ran into town, as Chargo and Zygmahn ran out of town to kill the pygmies.
...Later, the heroes learn that the two people Pinautus rescued were indeed Del Krishna and Shikra, of the Temple city Kurast. Cain immediately began to ask them questions. "Please, tell me. Is the soulstone safe?" Del Krishna looked down in regret and despair.
"No." Cain's expression became troubled, but he wasn't done yet.
"Is the way to Travincal safe?"
"No."
"Who of The Faithful are corrupted?"
"The way I have interpretted it, is that all but Khalim of The Council became blood-hungry and uncivilized. There was a hanging everyday, until Khalim tried to stop them. They outnumbered him and beheaded him in the center of the city. It was then that the Zakarumites began to ravage the city for anyone left alive. Everything living in the jungle is corrupted. And the last I saw, three Council Members were walking into the Soulstone's Temple."
"So now we have an agenda. We must get back to Travincal."
"No! It is a bloodbath there. And if everyone is dead, then you must get past the might of fifty Zakarumite Faithfuls. There is a dark prescence over Travincal."
"We have no choice, we must push forward." Their journey into the wilderness was guided by a group of mercenaries that knew the location of Travincal pretty well. By day they would traveled through marshes; by night, Zygmahn would share his ales with the Iron Wolves.
"...S-s-sc-scorch [hiccup], yo-you got al-alot of pretty, pretty fine wom-wom-wom-ladies in Kurast, no?"
"Hehehe, yeah, we, we got alot of women in Kurast. Alot of very ample women."
This went on for the first four nights, till Macicholli had enough whilst he was preparing dinner. "HEY! I will not cater to this befoulment of such an honorable enterprise."
"H-hey! I won't l-listen to this. I-I'm hav-having fun. C-can't you have f-fun?" Soon an arguement ensued, and Zygmahn was left passed out with a bloody nose and a black eye, and the mercenaries were sent back home.
"I don't know what to do with him, Chargo." Serima was always left to nurture Zygmahns wounds from any past stupors he may have had. "He's become a liability."
"I know. I just don't know what to do with him."
Throughout their trek in the marshes of Kurast, our heroes met a succession of demons from depths they would not fathom. There was also constant quests to be completed so that events would play out in the best way possible.
----Within the Durance---- ...Marius held the soulstone as he cowered just as Diablo, the Lord of Terror entered into the portal to Hell. The stone glowed potently as Marius fixed his gaze onto it. He could hear Mephisto, the Lord of Hate, talk with Baal, the Lord of Destruction, still in the form of Tal Rasha. He ran from the cursed city, unable to complete Tyrael's mission. He ran until he reached safety, Scosglen. He admitted himself into an asylum and stayed there.
