I have not played Diablo 3 so much (played D2 for years), but now i bought it again with the new necro DLC. My question would be, which character would you recommend for HC solo, planning to play on the hardest difficulties later on, and doing some Rifts as well. I play exclusively alone, so I would like to see which character is most viable. I love Crusader, but it feels a little slow, would love to try something with awesome DPS, and survivablity would be mostly up to my own skills and decision making, not depended on my character's skills as much.
Highest DPS right now are necro and wizard (necro highest GR for pushing, wizard highest for speed GR farming). Both are very squishy though. I personally went for wizard - died once, but it was my own mistake (as it is always on HC ;-)). Learned my lesson, everything good now. It's definitely a bit more challenging. Before that I ran a crusader on non-season, but deleted it - it's just too boring. Actually pretty decent DPS and super easy GR70 but never even in danger of dying. Doesn't feel HC-like.
Many people play the DH, because it offers the best trade-off between good DPS with relatively low chance of dying. I see a lot of people playing the Impale DH for that reason. But again, if I play HC and I'm not in danger of dying I might as well just play SC, right? So that sounds boring as well.
Basically: if you're looking for a safe farming class with a little bit less danger of dying and good DPS, pick the DH. If you want to be super safe pick crusader (but doesn't sound like that's what you're looking for). If you want to be a bit more adventurous and try something new pick the necro. And if you're absolutely mad and fearless and want the fastest mid-GR farming speed, pick wizard. (But be prepared to die! :D)
Edit: Just as an advice, have backup gear ready - and that should also already be re-rolled to the right stats and with backup gems, if possible. It really sucks if you die and have no backup gear, or that backup gear has to be re-rolled but you have no Death's Breath left. It's just nicer if your backup gear works right off the bat on T10. Basically I have 2 free deaths right now already because of 2 backup sets ;-)
Necro hands down. Even the Rathma set that you get in the season will carry you to 90+
Its both tanky and dps. So solo, thats exactly what you need. my profile is Nokturnal #1520 you can look at the gear, skills, i use but its pretty much the build everyone uses with a few varients
By the time I checked the replies, I have started a DH. My problem with necro is: 1.it feels easy(maybe i am doing something wrong:D) 2. really slow clearing time early(1-35lvl)/once again, i could be doing something wrong here as well)
I personally really enjoy DH's mobility, jumping around like a daredevil. At the moment I got lvl 30 after 4h 45mins, and have a lvl 15(?) necro. Actually I don't understand half what you wrote....:D like GR70, no clue. GR pushing or speed farming??? No idea. I am sorry if i am some sort of noobie here, but well....that is exactly what i am:D
@NoK:Could you provide me with a link to a tanky necro spec? And I don't mean "I have tons of skill and dodge everything like a mastermind yolo" spec. I've tried almost every necro spec (on SC NS) and found almost all of them incredibly squishy, *especially* the Rathma builds. But happy to be proven wrong, because I'd actually like to get back into Necro and I'm not sure if on SC NS, SC season, or HC season. But when I see myself ripping on SC NS I don't see myself doing that, so would be happy to get a link to a spec!

Thanks for all the advices!
Moved to HC forums.
