I was thinking about it, Blizzard is putting a good emphasis on gold and making sure it is a legit economic commodity. What if for pvp arenas, they let you set a gold wager split amongst your team. Seems like a good way to add a fun competitive incentive
I think Jay Willson said he didn't want to make Diablo 3 PvP an E-sport
Its not about making it a e-sport.
Will there be ladder rankings? haven't heard anything, pvp specific item rewards? Don't think so.
Whats the incentive to play PVP? At least gold wagers would allow players to be competitive with eachother. There is a big difference between competitive and e-sport.
I don't see how its gambling, since you fight for it, You don't HAVE to do it, its optional.
Yes but the option is still there, so you would probably need another licence.
Lets put it this way, I own a club and have 5 rooms which all have poker tables and roulette machines. People don't have to use them but I still need a license to have them.
This would be possible, but would require a gambling license. In fact, due to the fact that it would be essentially gambling across state lines (and even country lines), there could be a lot of legal issues they'd have to get past first.
The eSport issue is also valid. Betting on games without things being balanced will only create a ton of negative feedback from people that lose because class X is overpowered. Blizzard has stated that they do not wish to add features to the game that would point it towards eSports in an official way, purely because it'll create a sense of obligation for them to provide an eSport experience, which they are against doing.
Are you kids serious? A license to wager in game gold for an in game battle? Are you all retarded or what? I guess we need a license to use the gambling option in game also, oh and using the vendors you would need a license.
Blizzard is never going to allow a gold or money prize for pvp. It will just turn into an Esport and it would be the center of attention in Diablo 3...which Blizzard exactly doesn't want.

Yea totally agree, wagering in game gold for in game battle would surely catapult the game to esport status. I can see it now:
MLG PRESENTING DIABLO 3 DUELS:
FIRST TO 5
ENTRY FEE: 50K GOLD
WINNERS: 1ST PLACE - 100K 2ND PLACE - 70K 3RD PLACE - 50K
Or maybe we can make it into EVO also!!!!!! This is hilarious how delusional you all are. Do you kids even know what makes an esport an esport?
Wagering in-game gold would not be considered gambling. In-game items are not redeemable for cash and have no REAL value. That's why in the long legal stuff you have to read before installing the game it says that all in game items are Blizzards property or something like that.
I doubt wagering would make it an Esport. I think it could make some PvP games more interesting and competitive which would be fun. It could just be one of the matchmaking options and there would be lots of games without a pot. Doing items would be overly unless its 1v1. How do you divide the items or decide which items are acceptable wagers.

WOAH WOAH WOAH! How dare you use common sense in here! Also you are saying OPTIONS....OPTIONS ARE GOOD?! What the hell is wrong with you? Seriously people, wagering items and gold is exactly what Diablo should be about. Sad you kids who think this makes it an esport or makes it illegal gambling are the ones calling the shots ha.

The best we can do is bet outside of the arena and trade the winner the prize.
Except then you have to go by honor rule, which is a giant fail. You also would have to get their name and contact them to another game which is like a lot of steps to many for what it should be.

How do you know this? Have you seen the D3 PvP matchmaking system or has there been official confirmation that there would be no wagering in game gold on arena matches?
Actually, those that say there wouldn't be legal issues are wrong. Because of the RMAH, gold actually ends up with a real-world currency value. Second Life had a similar issue with gambling some odd years ago and eventually had to create a global restriction on any gambling due to this exact issue. If there was no RMAH there would be no issues in this regard, but because of it Blizzard would likely require gambling licenses to operate.
As for the eSport issue...it is a valid issue. Blizzard does not want to give any impression that they support eSport PvP in Diablo 3 from what they've stated. This kind of competitive wagering being built into the game would give such an impression. I don't think its a bad idea in itself, but understanding Blizzard's intentions...its not something that would be a good move.

Except that it doesn't give off the impression of an esport what so ever? How does it?
Also, can you even buy gold on the RMAH?

Call me a kid again and i'm going to tell my mummy.

Yes, you can buy/sell gold on the RMAH. Even if you couldn't the fact that you could buy items on the GAH and then sell them on the RMAH could create grey areas that may lead to muddy legal issues.
As for the eSport issue. Betting on matches creates a much more competitive environment that does 'feel' more of an eSport thing. As I said, I am not against the feature myself, but I understand the reasons that it might be perceived that way and as such wouldn't be a feature Blizzard would want to implement (on top of the whole legal issues).

I'm not even gonna touch the 'eSport' issue.
But, VladDracul, once again your zeal for insulting people gets the best of your judgement. Since you can buy and sell gold in the RMAH, gold pretty much equals real money; any gold bets are equivalent to real money bets. So, yes, allowing wagers in the Arena would venture into gambling territory.
This would be true EXCEPT gold has no real value since there is an unlimited supply of it in the game. Sure you could spend real money to buy gold but you could also grind through the game to find gold. An unlimited resource has no real value.
When people buy gold in RMAH they are really buying time. Either they spend the time grinding or someone else does.
