So is there ONLY going to be arena PVP? If so that is horribly disappointing. I hate having to find a team for some casual pvp fun. The world hostility in D2 was fun when I wanted a break from the rest of it.
They at least could add a pvp zone or something...
Well think about this way, in World PVP at least in d2 in order to "Duel" each other, you both had to leave town and hostile each other, at which point everone in the game can hostile you and come ruin your fun.
Now with the arena, you simple say to the person with a glove in hand *slap* I duel you, both enter the arena, I hope there is a spectator mode, and battle it out, once that is finished you can keep going on with hell/inferno, no interupt to the story.
Mael it comes down to the limitations they set on themselves. 4 people per game, unless you enter an Arena game in which case its 6 players, and you are stuck to the confines of the Arena. 4 Player open world pvp is not fun at all really...
We used to play bounty hunting games where a high level would enter a game and try to find us leveling in some part of the world. We see how long we could last until they found us. Then we'd have a battle royal against them when they did. It was hella fun. They could never teleport or use enigma.
If you want that kind of open world PvP feel, sorry, you're going to have to get it from path of exiles my friend, or stick to d2.

Lol unless they've added PvP in the past two beta patches for Path of Exiles - the only PvP I've found is during a quest-line, lol
Chinny, read the forums about what is being added for PvP.
-Arena PvP
-PvP leagues
-Cut throat leagues
PvP is currently enabled in cut-throat mode (which is only run as internal events to test it). Many of our PvP plans have been detailed in a development diary entry. The first mode that will be enabled (in the short term) is a team based arena mode. Other modes will be added in the medium term. We expect PvP to be quite unbalanced at first, as it has not been extensively tested yet. Our long term goal is to have a very competitive and fair playing field for PvP. We’ll need your feedback to achieve that. 0.9.3 includes some PvP opportunities in the Act Two bandit quests.
The largest balance issue that stood in the way of PvP is going to be solved soon. In Beta releases up to 0.9.6, there is a disparity between high level damage output and high level defensiveness. We're working to give players opportunities to become substantially more defensive. This will allow PvP to take place without the need for crazy non-constant damage scaling formulas. In addition, it'll solve damage reflection, life leech and various other places where the damage of a player is applied to the life of a player.
I agree. Having a 3v3 arena where you play against completely random people is not my idea of fun pvp. Someone posted above that you can 1v1 etc in the arena, where/when did blizzard announce that? Did they say you can duel with your friends when you want? Someone also said above that you can't duel with people in towns in wow, but last I played you could still duel in towns and camps but not major cities or shared major cities. That just goes to show what wow has done to their originally brilliant pvp model, because once the item incentive is gone so are the players gone from gathering it, and so they jump around in town for hours in guild and general chat trying to make others acknowledge them, do dailies to get gold, and go beat the dragon-slaying script at night as their only remaining form of progression-by-chance.
I would like to be able to *organize pvp*, even if it's only 100% mutual consent, being able to organize 1v1-4v4 with specific players would be nice, and I think it a little bit silly that blizzard does not include a system to allow this (after launch when they have time and manpower to do so) just because they don't want us to think diablo 3 is an esport/pvp game.
Don't consider what's currently planned for PvP to be the only modes ever introduced. WoW didn't have arenas or any BGs at release. It was all added in patches. Same thing can happen to DIII.

I do hope at ome point there is a hardcore pvp mode, version, or area that you can die forever - as that was the ultimate thrill for me.
