A good example of how fun hostility can be found right here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v-2xkZHKRdY&feature=relmfu
People in Diablo 2 took it so seriously to get (Pked) PvP was a mechanic in the game and it's like you just flipped them off or something.
I liked for the sense of it could happen anywhere in the world. which would develop cool scenario's.
I think a "enable PvP" button would be cool but only the host could do it or something.
That video pretty much summarizes everything I hated about hostility in Diablo 2. It really sucked that you could be a low level character running quests with other people, having fun, and then a level 80 comes in your game and kills everyone, camps your corpses, and basically forces everyone to leave the game and lose progress on the quest.
Not that hostility would be an option in D3, but if it were it should really be level based so that you could only hostile people +-5 levels of you or something along those lines. I think that hostility in D2 did add a sense of excitement and risk to the game, but only when it was a fair match. If you were a level 18 and a level 20 turned hostility on you, both sides in this scenario risked dying in a fight, and it added a new dimension and thrill to the game for both the hunter and hunted. Being a level 80 sorceress with all the waypoints in normal mode is like turning on the invincibility cheat.

Well considering the sorc in that video is level 30, and everyone else was level 50. It bassicly just means they're bad at the game.
Well we wont see this in D3 with only 4 player servers and the focus on coop. All we can hope for is that the arena will be good and maybe other types of instanced PvP in the future.
Well I hope they allow a form of dueling too, to just mess around with friends and whatnot when outside of town.
edit: Just so we're on the same page, a duel as in both/all players have to accept before the fists start flying, and can be ended at any point in time.
The reason they got rid of it was more because of the hacks used to PK in hardcore mode. Drop hack/Trigger hack completely ruined it. It's one thing to hostile in town and hunt the players down but to basically force people to remember PK accounts or tendencies is not what blizzard wants.
Just watch how in the video he meteors waypoints and TP's and tell me that's not broken or unfair at all. It's also just an asshole move to come into a game and grief people like that.
Nobody wants hostility. Even the troll in me that I hide away for unpleasant days.
Also what difference do a few levels make it make if you've got the best mobility spell in the game and can two shot everyone because nobody has or needs a ton of resistance that low.
And what do you propose the design of the banner teleportation be when hostiled? What about quest/event teleportation? What happens if you're being camped at your last checkpoint thus you can never respawn anywhere safely?
Please think about how your suggestion would affect the game before you go shouting it out to the world. "I WANT WORLD PVP CUZ I WANT IT AND ITZ KOOL AND WAS IN D21111!!!"

It would act the same as waypoint system really. Die, return to town and take WP to body NUDE, or Die, return to checkpoint with BODY. If anything the new system allows more room for hostile system, especially with cooldowns on fast moving skills like teleport.
I am not saying hostile should be in every game so all you PvM warriors can calm down. Atleast let us that enjoy the classic feel of Diablo where player interaction is huge get the experience we want too. If you are so greedy and butt hurt cause someone came into your game and wrecked you that you want the game only about you, well you are gonna get grieved one way or another regardless of hostile, now you are just taking your options of fighting back away.

Chill bro, i'm sure they could think of something.
If they made hostile mode to be two way instead of one way as in diablo 2 this would work. So if someone hostile u, u can accept or decline. But to totally trash it and saying that ppl abuse it imo is bias and not really seeing the problem as it is. So this nice ability from diablo 2 could have been made better in diablo 3 instead of just taking it out completely.
It'll probably be pretty easy for the admin to configure the settings in order to control which players can join which servers, what happens when you die, when you can PvP, where you can PvP or if you cannot at all, on that specific server, during that mission, in that world, etc
Have u played diablo 2? Sounds like u havent. In diablo 2 randoms can join any public game. Than they party with u town portal teleport to town and leave party than hostile u back to portal and start killing u. They do this and they think it is fun... Some high lvls also join pub games and than hostile everyone and go around finding and killing players trying to levelup and killing a boss.
I like how you picked a video called "Trolling". You have to face it, not everybody is into PVP. Everybody wants to do something different with there game experience. It should be set as a optional game option. Where PVPers can get in a game and go wild and PVEers can can do there own thing.
In Diablo 2 there were times where I'd like to hop in a game and just openly PVP whoever I felt like, at the same time there were times where I just wanted to do my own thing and not be bothered by people constantly trying to PvP me. A option to seperate both parties would be great.
I really hated how PVP was implemented in Diablo 2. There was NO fun at all when you joined a server and there was an Amazon with a Zephyr bow shooting seeking arrows at the town entrance. People would clutter there and try to charge towards her just to find themselves dead a few meters forward.
I for one do not miss any of that from Diablo 2, including hostility.
If you do, you must be one overpowered troll that like doing that in D2 =)
"Griefing is awesome" trolls as a customer base makes for a community that fails.
Inversely however not having the option to create your game with certain desired modes of play available is poor design when it is easily made available with no negative impact.
The option should be available in the off position by default, those wishing to live dangerously being able to set it and the games they opt for would match them with others that don't mind FFA.

Bring griefing back, free PvP everywhere, anytime you want? No, thanks.
