OK so i was at work today just standing by the conveyor cause its part of my job but anyway i zoned out and then it came to me i have a great idea. What if when pvp comes out you know how its going to be arena style what if there where a set amount of spectators allowed in each pvp session to watch and bid using in game gold on teams to either win or lose i think that this idea would make pvp enjoyable for everyone even if you dont wanna participate in the actual pvp itself also i think this would be a great way to get people involved in wanting to participate i dunno i thought it would be pretty cool maybe even use real world money but i dont know about that please guys tell me what you think of this idea

Stopped at bidding gold. That is considered ILLEGAL according to some posters here. I myself would like it, however I wouldn't want to go to Jail for D3...would you?
how is that illegal you earn the gold through playing the game witch is free to play
Hey don't ask me. I am sure those said posters will come in here with a righteous fortitude only they have to prove you wrong. I am for your idea, just saying it is apparently ILLEGAL to the higher ups, after all I don't know anything, im just a troll right?
instead of insulting my lack of grammar and asking if i know what a word means reply to post please
Trying to help you out bud. When an idea is presented in that fashion, it's usually not a good idea. Not saying yours isn't a good idea, but that's just the way it usually goes.
I, for one, would like to see this in game. I don't think it will, though. There have been plenty of problems getting countries to accept the RMAH, which they considered gambling. What you're proposing is definitely gambling, so there would be a huge amount of resistance to the idea, in a strictly legal sense.
Sadly, the developers said they don't want to give the false impression that the Diablo PvP is a competitive (and 100% balanced mode, with people making tournaments based on it and demanding balancing) - at least that's what I can remember on the subject.
Which is probably why this won't happen.
Don't get me wrong, I would LOVE to have bidding, to be able to wager gear and gold against the other team, and to have dozens of game modes in PvP - I'm just not hoping for it (based on what the devs said themselves) so I don't get disappointed.
Step 1: Join PvP match.
Step 2: Bid all the gold you have against yourself from another account.
Step 3: Tank the match.
Step 4: Profit.
Step 5: Go to jail.
Spectators shouldn't be allowed to bet, but the duelers should be allowed to bet each other, not bet on other players though so no throwing of matches.
It is a form of gambling, which is illegal in some countries, like Korea, thus making it possible for people to end up being punished. It is not a good idea.
While this idea seems like fun, it would ultimately be a bad idea. First of all, it could be exploited very easily, with teams losing on purpose, etc. Secondly, it would be illegal because in this game gold = real money and so it would be a form of gambling. I think spectating would be cool and maybe even a system where you could guess for fun and would keep track of how many you got right/wrong. As for betting gold, No.. bad idea.

They said nothing about not wanting D3 being competitive, they want it to be competitive. They don't want it to be an Esport, big difference. Also the video you're looking for is this one, and Wilson said something along the lines of "...if we ever wanted to make diablo 3 an Esport, allowing betting on matches would be a way to do it..."
Look, this has gotten a little hyperbolic. You certainly won't "go to jail" or be otherwise in any kind of legal trouble for gambling gold in-game. However, gambling in-game IS against Blizzard's ToS, so you could get your account put on probation or even banned for doing so.
As far as why Blizzard won't just set up their own system for you to bid gold on matches, several people above have demonstrated already how that could be exploited.
Like others have said, I think this is a cool idea, but as it's already against the ToS, don't count on it happening.

i would choose my own religion and worship my own spirit, but if he ever preached to me i wouldn't want to hear it. i'd drop him, a forgotten god, languishing in shame; and then if i hit stormy seas, i'd have myself to blame.
I like the idea of spectators. I'm a lil unsure if they would add them primarily because such a feature has little use outside of a more eSport environment. However, I would still love to see them regardless.
As for betting, that is a gray area that could end up causing Blizzard a lot of issues. A thread was posted previously asking about the same thing and I explained some of the reasoning there, but I'll repeat it here. Essentially, because of the RMAH gold actually has a real-world value and could be perceived as actually currency (again kind of a muddy area in our legal system right now). If a legal case was made to that effect, Blizzard could potentially be hit with illegal gambling charges for offering gambling across city lines without a license.
So, unless Blizzard was to also purchase a gambling license and follow gambling laws...they do have the potential to end up with legal issues by adding betting. I'm not sure how this translates to user legal issues, but I suppose there would be a similar issue of you gambling across state lines. It is a very muddy issue that I have a feeling Blizzards legal department would recommend avoiding.
This is all in addition to the fact that Jay did already kinda state that adding betting would be a more eSport feature and as such would be something they would not likely add. Seems like betting is a no-go really.

Oh no, you will go to Jail. In fact, if you use the gamble function in game...say hello to the feds for me.
Once again Adon is the voice of 'reason' via the use of trolling.
Gamble with gold = can of worms because the in game currency of gold can be translated into real world currency via an in built feature of the game. Thus gold could be construed legally to be an actual currency. Thus it could be argued to fall under such laws for gambling with real world currency. That's what's being said.

But you are actually gambling and buying game time in reality. You arn't purchasing anything but the time someone took to acquire said gold or item. Same applies to the RMAH when people buy gold. DAMN im a great "troller".
