So after a very long time I've made a choice of either going Monk or Wizard. Not sure what I'm going to go for first though, but discussing this specific issue might help me out a lot.
I worry that the damage output of the Monk would be reduced due to his ability to heal. I like the Monk class regardless of its healing powers. So I want to be sure that my damage would be the same as a Barb's \ Wizard's if executed correctly. I can't seem to shake off the "Pure DPS class" issue off my head.
Or even WORSE. No matter what game I play, I always end up choosing the underdog class, that does the least damage and needs to work the hardest to justify itself, and even more worse then that, I always end up healing because of that, and I'm tired of it. I don't want to be pushed into a corner I can't get out of where I'm, considering me being a Monk, I'm forced to bring a fuckton of healing spells on my bar just to justify my place in the arena, or not be taken at all since I will do less damage then other classes.
Also, regarding moving impaling effects (slows, etc), what are your thoughts about trying to catch a DH, Wiz, or a WD? seems like except for Dashing strike (which is utterly amazing, TOO amazing if you ask me, which I fear of it getting nerfed) we have no means of getting to our target.
I don't want to be a support class that is only being brought because of its Auras, or utilities in general. For once, I want to take names (ears) and kick some ass and enjoy the game.

Also Monks will be just fine in dps/pvp... in fact i'm thinking monk will be a better tank than the barbarian.
Monks get high dodge - dodge negates ALL damage and snaring effects. They then have a passive that allows them to turn their dexterity into armor - allowing them to have high armor.
Monks then have good dps abilities and combos allowing them to output just as much damage as any other class. Just be warned that monk is going to the hardest class to properly master.

I never said you could not be a glass cannon monk...it is probably just not optimal. Wizards and Barbarians have single skills that hit for over 1600% weapon damage. Monks highest i believe is more like 900%. However, monks do attack faster and gain speed / attack speed / damage buffs on skills that they use to be able to become a glass cannon. It is just not very believable that you will be able to go 6 damage skills that only buff damage and survive anything in hell or inferno. You are not a ranged class that can dodge every spell, you will need to play defensive.
Ask yourself, is a "glass cannon" an insta-gib character or a character that puts out massive damage... because monks can definitively put out damage, look at exploding palm, you can chain that and make countless enemies explode(based on % of THEIR health) this does massive damage toward the end of the game. Barbarians however, have a skill with a 2 minute cooldown, that costs nothing(if runed) that does 1600 damage in an AOE....it can be the very first move you do, sure you can die after but that is still a "glass-cannon". It just depends on your playstyle.
Personally i see monk as a more steady, steady -> Burst. class. while barbarian and wizard are more use everything you have, run in circles and wait for regen / cooldowns. I do not know enough about witch doctor / demon hunter to correctly talk about them soo

No Class will be able to performe its best in PvP when no defensive skills are used. The same goes for Monk.
Its just so that Monk has heals as defensive skills (and other ofc).
So you want to go in the Arena without defensive skills (heals)? No problem, but no one will do this cause its stupid.

Ok ... i guess you got me there. I was unaware sickle was considered a mighty weapon.
Still ... i don't think mighty weapons will out dps other weapons as much as you think.
i've never had a worthwhile sickle drop.... or the carver weapon either. They are always whites so i ignore them.
