So lately, I have been thinking on why people like certain people on this site. So I have decided to put up a a guide and some helpful advice for newbies entering this site so they can get a good reputation and get posting.
Spelling and Grammar
Even though people here can resort to what I call "texting language", I would highly recommend that an individual would use correct spelling and grammar. My old History teacher once said after a kid asked whether or not spelling counted on a test, "No, but it will just make you look like an idiot." No one likes idiots unless we know you're kidding. So as a newbie, you want to get a reputation as being a smarter person.
No Arguments
Do NOT, under ANY circumstances, get into any argument for at least 2 months or at least until you get around 200-300 posts. This is includes heated debates, flame wars, or even arguments about music. People don't like those who look for the first opportunity to fight. I made this terrible mistake and I had to beg on my knees to get un-permabanned.
Stay Quiet
Only a select few people can easily make friends, and even less over the internet. So my personal advice for you is to be a quiet poster, who will post here and there and not a big deal out of everything. You know Small Man Syndrome? That's what you DON'T want to act like. Maybe perhaps when you are known here you can start going "WOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!! I LOVE MY LIFE!!!!! AHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!!" but for now, just calm down
Respect
I find it quite astonishing how many people here disrespect the moderators and members of this site without reason to do so. And even if they do have a reason, don't start trolling and cursing just because your post was deleted or someone disagrees with your idea. If you are a person who uses "fuck" and "shit" a lot try to lower the usage of those words. No one likes a internet gangster so it will be an automatic minus to your reputation.
I shall probably add more to this, but I hope you enjoyed this guide
Edit: On my description, I wrote "an good" so can someone fix that? I don't want to be a hypocrite
And although Jetrall promises success and popularity, I promise power and money. I think we know which win.
Wait those are pretty interchangeable... oh well the hell with it. Good guide. Back in the old days (well not too long ago, long enough) I started off just throwing myself into nearly every debate. I let my opinion be known. It seemed to work okay back then, but times have changed and probably doesn't work so well anymore. I was quite the scoundrel back then. :whistling:
I try to use personal experiences and also a lot of observations I made through a lot of forums that I've been part of. Like I said, I was almost permabanned
Pshhh screw those Jetrall and Daemaro, you must consult the great one known as Infinitum before making any posts. AS for promises I promise you cookies, LOTS OF FUCKING COOKIES!!!
Indeed I am aiming for politeness is better that being a douche bag. Yet a lot of people lack what I call "common sense" or "logic" so I like to write it out for them Jk
Try not to concern yourself too much with forum respect or reputation. Just concentrate that your posts are on topic and in the good spirit of the forum. Welcome to the forum, by the way.
it's a good guide, but I don't agree with the "stay quiet" idea... I wasn't known here until I started posting everywhere and got my "spam post count" higher (I'm NOT saying spam/off-topicness should be abused) making some off topic post (in the proper thread aka URT) makes other Dfans get to know you better....
Just look at hungry hippo... her started posting everywhere and got a nice rep right away... then he left because he was posting only spam wich is good, sort of....
anyway... maybe it's just me, but I think that being a bit loud could get you far, unless you abuse and turn yourself into a spambot
I think the respect thing should go first... imo is the most important thing, and the spelling, is good.. personally I don't mind some minor mistakes, and there aren't many grammar nazzis around here (thank god), but when posts turn unreadable (specially for people that don't have english as main language) then misunderstandings start to rise...
and I'm going to stop now as this post is getting too long
Not to say I advocate this, but something I would hypothetically add: no matter how respectful, helpful, encouraging, creative, knowledgeable, or otherwise beneficial you are to the masses in this community, there will be people that hate you for no reason, whatsoever, and will dog you to the most obscure and lifeless thread in the deepest subforum. Ignore them, as such members often end up banned.
I consider this guide as an insult to all new members here. Unless you were writing it for a bunch of 5 year olds of course. You seriously expect someone who has lived among other humans(hopefully) not to know what respect is? It's not different from real life. You earn it. Now onto your guide-

This is desirable certainly. As long as I can understand, it's fine with me.

Magic numbers- 2 months and 300 posts and then you can be a dick.
Seriously though, arguments are there for a reason. That is, people disagree on certain matters and express their opinions. My very first post on this forum was in such a context. But I debated on an idea and that was it. When it gets to personal attacks, then it turns ugly, however many months you have on your head and however many posts is listed under your name.

We have introverts and extroverts. Both of them will disregard this piece of advice.

Respect is earned. Being a mod, admin or staff doesn't put you above this rule in my book.
I agree that cursing is best left out of civilized conversations/arguments.
This guide looks rather weird to me. It seems like a disguised insult to new members- telling them to write properly, show respect and stay in the shadows(for a while at least).
No hate- just voicing my opinion.

Hey, I'm still alive and well! I don't see that lasting forever, but it's solid as of now!
If you are more of a quite and shy person, then spamming will start to feel weird after awhile. Or if you are loud and social then there are also several people, and cows, who will probably like you more if you post a lot(I'm just guessing, I have no idea what cows like, besides grass).
Just find your niche, do what feels right to you, and don't worry about trying to make everybody like you.

Always do whatever Jetrall tells you to. This will make you more successful at life and more popular anywhere and everywhere.

Yeah, which mainly entails kissing boys on the lips.

I'm still kind of new here and I have no idea how the actual respect points-thingies work.. if they are even still being used?
