This vid is just the most pathetic one I have watched this year. Also pretty fucking sad.
Our psychologists friends trying to rationalize this behavior just irritates me. Maybe they are right or maybe they are wrong. Nothing gets as speculative as categorizing human behavior.
Not wanting to push full into the tragedy theater, I have to say that these could very well be isolated incidents. There may have been places and occasions where people did help(there must have been!!!).
It's disturbing nonetheless. Imagine that? Trying to help out and getting the worst of it.
And I wonder just how many people would now think twice before helping because of what happened...
Ya but then if you have to think first before helping someone, you are a coward anyway, so I guess the video's effect stops just there.
... More cat bullshit. Fuck I'm sick of cats. All over the internet
Some people might of thought he was a homeless guy sleeping? Doubtful but maybe. Except the guy who moved him, he would of definitely seen the blood. I don't see how the point of conformity even applies here... All the people walking by were solo. There was no social situation to conform to in their immediate vicinity. They just chose not to help because they couldn't be fucked. I don't see any psychological justification

You should always give a second thought before running in like a hero. This guy obviously didn't know the attacker had a knife and was going to stab him. Being stabbed =/= Some random bitches handbag
Ummmmmmm yeh sorry wtf is with the cat... I feel my nerd-rage processors starting to kick into gear... /rage
Wtf is with those people? I mean, really... wtf
Regardless of the fact that yes, he was an idiot for attempting to help the woman, I mean, really, you just don't do it.
And some of the other examples were even more stupid. ESPECIALLY the security guards just standing around...
I am shocked by human nature sometimes.
EDIT: I don't think that there is such a thing as a bystander effect. What happened there may have happened to anyone. The only person who was truly responsible was the person who lifted the body. Someone should have called 911 for the 71 y.o., it doesn't matter if 50 people call 911... the security i think the problem there is the group of teenagers. I'm not sure that they were confident their ability to take all of them. And the psych ward is possibly the stupidest and saddest of the lot. I mean really, dieing in what is in affect a hospital...........
EDIT2: Also I googled the 'bystander effect' and wikipedia says "This has never been conclusively proven beyond the basic research and cases given here (with some research refuting the effect for certain situations, such as emergency services reporting)"

Ya even the cat made a gesture to save its friend or rather show compassion. I am still not buying into the heart massage stuff but that's beside the point.
Humans are supposed to be highest in the hierarchy of social animals and yet such shit is allowed to happen.
I don't think the guy was an idiot to help. True he died but it cannot be worse than living among such a heartless bunch. Or at least that's what's I like to think.
I don't know in the US, I hope it is, leaving a person to die like that without helping him is a crime, but its only punished with fine from around 200 to 3000 dollars...
