I have been seeing more older members floating about again lately, but like Jetrall and some others said, before the traffic was really a few core members who created all the cool threads, contributed heavily to discussion, etc. Maybe, as a staff and as a DiabloFans community, we should all try to foster more of those in the coming weeks. Lend out a helping hand, friendly chatter, and such, and you can get people hooked here, methinks.
If you consider this "high" then it was in up in heaven before you guys came, lol.
This isn't, I meant before now... Like I said.

@Keegan/Seth: People move on, maybe they just lost interest. When I got here, Silver, Ferret, and Elven were all inactive already. Elven was busy with WoW, and I have no idea what Ferret and Silver were up to. That was the start.
Well after reading over this topic has made me feel pretty damn guilty. And honestly, I really have no good reason why I am not posting often anymore. So I really have no where to place the blame. I will most definately make an effort to get posting again. Hopefully my grades don't get me banned from the computer so I can become an active member again.
The Curse thing did put me off at first, not because it was bad, but just because it was a change and I had to get used to all the new features and menus, and even more get used to the things that were gone. I'm still missing the feature where I could see which of my posts had gotten approval from people, or even the feature to disaprove a post.. I've been itching to, a few times, and the button isn't there.
You would probably be one of the few. The reputation system caused a whole lot more trouble than it did good for the community. Even if we stayed on vBulletin, the Rep system would have been removed.
I personally don't like it, but I'm not known to be a user who just picks up his shit and leaves over stuff like that. I just don't get involved much in those issues. I've gotten some kind of answer out of this, so it's all good.
If I may be allowed to conjecture here, I just thought of something.
Consider the early days of this forum, I'm talking 05-07. At that time, there was barely a whiff of a D3 on the horizon. Many of the regulars, whom we now wonder where they went, joined at this time. In those days, the forum was less about D3 and more about D2 and just chatting with people. The community was smaller and was built around something entirely else. Simply put, at that time the forum wasn't a news site, or aiming to be one. The members of this era joined because of D3, but they did not stay because of D3.
Now, let's step to the D3 announcement in 2008. People are excited as hell in the beginning, and people join in droves. Discussion flows, and we had to express expand the moderator team with something like 4 people overnight. It's great, everyone's happy. However, this also marks the birth of a new site, at least in principle.
Slowly, things change. Since the announcement, and greatly since the curse takeover, the site has had a shift. We ARE now a news site, with a whole different aim. The old forum, which was a chatplace between the core regulars, has slowly disappeared in favor of a future D3 community, and as such, many regulars vanish. The old structure could be maintained for a while, but I do not think it could have lasted even with regular D3 news: we would have most many regulars. However, we have not nearly been able to build a new regular user base, because they users who join now also stay because of D3 news. And there are none. I mean, even I am beginning to consider the possibility of D3 freezing in like ghost did.
It's a thought, and it seems to make some sense, though I don't know if it's right.
PlugY for Diablo II allows you to reset skills and stats, transfer items between characters in singleplayer, obtain all ladder runewords and do all Uberquests while offline. It is the only way to do all of the above. Please use it.
Supporting big shoulderpads and flashy armor since 2004.
I don't know if I used to be considered a "regular", but as I saw it, everything went downhill after the site update. But if it wasn't that it may just be that a lot of people had to move on. We'll see what happens this summer though. It may kick back into gear.
Edit: Oh and heres a thought. When I first joined here I joined for the D3 news and to talk to people mainly about D3. But soon enough I came to love all you guys (not that kind of love but you know what I mean, well mabey) and just logged on everyday to talk to you all. But as people are leaving/breaking, well the site loses its emotion, or some shit like that. I tried
There's also the declining quality of the users joining. You can't seriously consider any of the new users to be as good as a lot of relatively older members. I'm not talking about myself, even though I'd like to think that I'm considered to be a decent member..I'm talking about most others who you guys should know. Hopefully things will get better. Not very likely, but still..
Agree with basically everything you stated right there, and much of what's already been said.
There isn't much I can say that hasn't been said, it's just a shitty time of the year.
But myself, I definitely think that it's more due to the lack of blue posts lately.
This is a forum about Diablo, that's quite obvious.
Interest is highest when there are new mechanics, new areas, and new things to speculate about.
Lately, the list of things that we can actually talk about has plummeted.
Sure, there are real life things, but this is a forum about Diablo. Thus, the topics related to Diablo are going to bring the most discussion, since it's a common interest we ALL share.
Else, the fuck would we be doing here?
As such, when we go through a 3+ month of fuck all for news, people are going to stop visiting. Sure, dedicated posters will stick around, but others will feel less and less pull to come back and post. Myself included, granted I had some RL shit pulling me away (I'm coming back, don't you fucking doubt it), but for the most part the lack of solid news did nothing to keep me around.
Dunno how everyone else feels about this, but there's my 2 cents on it.

Good, you should feel guilty! Who'd've thought? Maybe we should have tried the Jewish guilt trip thing a while ago.
I've always considered this an active forum. I mean, it's better than the one or two people that post on SC2Australia.com
I mean if it comes down to it if you're making posts like this it means you're angry about the problem. And I don't think you should be. We're all here, but quite a bit of the time I read topics, read all the posts, and then don't post myself. This isn't for any reason, sometimes I just can't think of anything to say.

"A lot of fellows nowadays have a B.A., M.D., or Ph.D. Unfortunately, they don't have a J.O.B."
I've been here for what..like 2 years? If you count my spam board posts, I'd have a post count of about..say 6,000. That's terrible. I had like..33,000 on a forum after 1 year of joining. That's with me only posting at night at hours pretty much ranging from 9 PM until about 3 or 4 AM. Those were the golden days of my forum history, but why can't that happen here? Users just aren't as close here, I think. Nobody shares what's happening in their lives. Nobody really has the energy to immerse themselves in the forum, and consider other users as their online friends/brothers/sisters. I have to say that this forum doesn't have a particular mood, or style, or whatever the fuck the word is. Apart from myself and probably 2 or 3 other users, nobody has a noticeable persona. I don't see anyone trying to loosen up the mood around here. Again, only myself and 2 or 3 other users have a proper fucking sense of humor. Most other posts are basically "Nice sig! Wow, I like that sketch! Wow, That looks sick!" or some kind of similar crap. I'm not stirring up shit here, but other than activity, this place needs its own taste, and about 4 members isn't near damn enough to make that happen. I honestly don't know what can be done to change this, if anything CAN be done..it's just a shame.
Pshaw, between the two of us we've got enough personality for the entire board.
Add in Turmobil's chav phase, and we're golden.
Keep in mind though, this is a video games forum.
Users are going to be way less social than other boards, not applicable to EVERYONE, but as a generalization it's pretty accurate.
Sure, we'll discuss the fuck out of anything video-game related, but not so much real life.

I still think the problem is that we're a fansite for two dead games. D2 is 10 years old and D3 won't be out until ~2012. Once there's more to talk about in general, there'll be more activity.

You being an admin, I expect you to know certain things, lol. BECAUSE at this time, it's a forum for two dead games, you should build on aspects that do not related to those games. A community should based off of genuine online camaraderie rather than mutual interest of a specific game. The prime example of how a purely video game based forum would almost always fail, is the Midway forums. Let's say a new MK game just hit the market. They'd have about a thousand new members, and about 2,000 posts/day. Now that game has been released for about a year. About 5 users/month join up, and they have roughly 180 posts/day. Do you seriously want to become such a forum? Blizzard doesn't release a game ever so often, so this place can't afford to be this stagnant for such a long time, before being active for a short period of time.
I don't care if people don't want to contribute. I'm merely saying what this will lead to. If people or the administration want to follow what I'm saying, then good. If they don't, I don't give two shits. I already said, it's not like I'm threatening to leave or anything, I'm just saying these things hoping to make things better.
I don't expect anyone to socialize with anyone, but if that doesn't happen to some extent, and in places OTHER than the URT, then this place will suffer, and I'm not the only one complaining.
I'm the only one saying something about it, trust me. Plenty have said that the activity is at an all time low, and I just did this thread hoping that people can voice their opinions. And that's what I'm doing, voicing my opinion.
My points are based on illusions? What points? Nothing that I have said can be thought of as that.
So I want this to become a place that it once was, maybe even better, and you're telling me to get a friggin moderator account..whatever the hell that means, and do something about it? Are you high? Are you angry about something in your life, which has consequently driven you to speak utter nonsense here? I don't seriously care if what I said doesn't happen, it would just be better if it actually did. I'm just voicing my opinion. Stop getting so irritated and spewing bullshit that I wouldn't expect, not in a million years, from someone like you.
Almost makes you want to say "get a life" ? You are completely free to say that. It holds no impact on me. The one hour (TOPS) that I spend on this forum everyday, me voicing my opinion on how how this site can be bettered, are not things that would drive a person to tell me to get a life. Stop spewing nonsensical crap.
