When I play Diablo 2 in act 5, I feel a little at home with that place. I kind of had a bond with that area, the sort you feel when you live somewhere that you like. Like the cottage your parents drag you to every summer, or a place you visit every winter to go skying and even the first house you've ever grew up in.
Was there anything in the Diablo games that resembled your part of the world or even the people in it. Some of you guys must of felt a little at home when you traveled threw the cold plains or roamed the desert of the East?

I like the life I lived, because I went from negative to positive.
You know very well who you are, don't let them hold you down, reach for the stars.
I think when I'm at the Arreat Summit, and looking down at the plains below, it does remind me of that kind of vertigo feeling I sometimes get when looking straight down the mountain. All of Act V has this eerie sentimentality to it. It feels like the place to be to witness the end of an era.
Just depends where you live in it For instance, you could live in a slum in the middle of New Orleans somewhere, where theft, rape, and murder are everyday occurances, or you could live in some secure apartment or suburb somewhere. Likewise, you could live in a grand castle somewhere in Sanctuary, where luxury is everything, or you could live in the jungles of Kurast.
Not to stereotype cities, which effectively I just did. Oh well.
But if you mean overall customs of medieval times, then I'd probably agree with you
No way. It wouldn't be barbaric. I'd have my shako on, with my nigma and hota. Nobody would be able to touch me. =]
You'd probably get killed by Duriel. I wonder how many people on this forum have never died while playing Diablo.

In our world, you have a choice. In the medieval world, you don't. If you were born a peasant, you belong to some Lord. If for God's sake, you were born a woman, you have no control over your life unless you are on the amazon islands.

Ordinary people don't live in castles.

That actually doesn't sound so bad.

Ty. I am happy with our world, and I'll help making it better, but please don't compare it to the medieval world - we make huge progress.

I was contrasting royal life with primal, "barbaric" life. I didn't say you had ot be relegated to either one or the other. That isn't the point of the argument, the point is that depending on where you live, life can be jolly or equally barbaric.

I didn't say you had to be an ordinary person. Again, this is not related to the argument- I was not saying what kind of person you were, I was saying where you lived.

You're just trying to piss me off You damn well know that those jungles are riddled with blood-thirsty animals of all kinds, zombies, strange short people that torture, mutilate, and sacrifice humans at a whim, and of course the humidity and the zero-population angle (assuming we're talking about the jungles of Kurast after the only settlement left is the docks.)

Why am I not allowed to compare and contrast the two? For all our technology and advancements, we still have to deal with assholes who rape children and rape and mutilate women, purposefully arrange themselves on the road to get in a car crash and sue the hell out of you, and the list goes on. We might not be living in hostile jungles or be stuck under the rule of monarchical tyrants, but we still can't seem to abolish these types of things.
In spite of all of our progress, the world will never be perfect or anything near it. I don't believe there is any evidence to even support that claim, if that is indeed what you're saying.
i felt like at home in the first level with the graveyard, church, blacksmith, going back in fourth . you know selling, buying, items, reading books, scrolls. using nova for the first soooocoooool .
My heart definitely belongs to the first Diablo. The second one is great, but it just didn't capture my imagination the way the first one did. But I liked the way Act 1 in D2 was very reminiscent of the first Diablo, while at the same time conveying a greater sense of scale. And the why the makeshift Rogue camp is built, it reminds you that you won't be staying there long; you have to travel east in pursuit of the Wanderer.

To find the truth, you must risk everything.
