well the usual setting was fraps+audacity, but now its more the use of Dxtory.
i've checked few videos of yours, you should lower the game down a bit, or boost your own voice.

Ayy, if you're talking about a couple of those Dead Space videos, that was a total accident. I usually have the game's audio turned down to about 4/100 but those ones somehow the game's audio was back to it's default 100 and I had already gone long past that point in the game so I just upped them anyway and acknowledged my mistake in the video's description.

Also with Privateer it took me a bit to figure out I could even mix the volumes so the first couple there the game drowns out my voice too unfortunately. So that was a learning process that I probably lost a few potential viewers over. LOL

thats why i advise on fraps+audacity, it gives you 2 audio channels.
that way you can play with the volume of each one how ever you want

So when you hit the recording hotkey for Fraps do you just quickly hit the one for audacity and make sure they're lined up in post editing?

I usually just turn the game down on the volume mixer and then turn the mic input up higher.

well i run audacity before fraps, so that file will be longer then the fraps one.
thats where Sony Vegas will come into the picture, you simply cut the edges, sync it all and you're fixed
getting the perfect results aint easy, even though i give my videos the idea of "Fail", then you might think that i'm gonna do some
mistakes in editing or what not. but actually i'm working hard on the editting part, my game play and commentary are enough for the fails

When I recorded with FRAPS I always had two persistent issues. One was I never could get the counter in the upper corner to go away. I assumed I had to get the paid version of Fraps to get rid of that. Second was when I recorded older games such as Fallout 1 with it, it made Fallout run really laggy. But I was trying Fraps to record Fallout because I've had bad luck forcing the game into windowed mode and Hypercam is really only good for recording windows as opposed to full screen.

Also, what kind of hardware do you have? Video card, RAM, etc? I know that extra RAM is useful for recording purposes and your videos look pretty smooth so I was curious.

here's my settings on fraps -> movies:
video capture 30fps, full size
lock framerate while recording

those are the ones that are checked.
about fraps fps counter, you have "hide overlay" in the FPS tab.

hardware:
8gb RAM
5850 ATI card

Mm I should have no problem then. I think it's just the game itself that is lagging for other reasons. How big would you say are your 10 minute long files? I suspect I can achieve a higher compression of the ones I'm making without having to lose much quality.

i depends on the game and settings.
it should be ~10-30gb.

Eep! That sucks uploading to youtube doesn't it? I'll upload like a 5 gig video and it takes nearly as many hours.

it depends how you render it, i used to render as WMV which would give me 1-2gb for 15-20mins.
now i'm using more complex way to render/compress so the files are reduced up to 500-600mb.

I reckon that's the next thing I need to learn then. I'm uploading them in their unadulterated form which I know is stupid.

I seriously wanna play Max Payne 3. But it'd be the first of the series for me to play. And I can seldom play a sequel right off the bat without playing the ones before it first. Even if I know the plot or the plot doesn't matter it seems I still can't.

why not start from first one and moving up?
Max Payne 3, even though it a good game its a "join the bandwagon" right now, some LPers delaying it till few months later.

Yeah I generally am not interested in recording brand new games. Like, when Skyrim came out everyone was doing a let's play of that. And how boring is that?

After I finish Dead Space actually I'm gonna return to my roots and play and early 90's game.

thats why i've played VtMB twice and now playing Blade of Darkens (which is 12y old), because its fun playing those games. doesnt matter when they were made/released.
