I've played it for over a year now. It's a really good game but it's not for everyone.
It's too big to cover in just one post. Basically the PVE has a good campaign, something called "living world" once a month to keep things interesting, and cool World Boss events, but the beginning areas are really slow. The PVP comes in different flavors, but the most notable is World vs. World where everyone of one server fights everyone of two other servers in a large three-way conflict. I would suggest looking at reviews, by both professional and web critics, to see if it's for you.
I'm actually looking into The Elder Scrolls Online. I never bought a collectors edition for any game or ever played a game with a subscription, but this might be the game to change that.
How can I try TESO for free through curse? I really want to check it out. Like I said I never bought a CE for any game or paid a sub. I'm more scared of the let down and being disappointed. I'd love to check it out and see if I'd be willing to spend 100 dollars on a game. Not because I'm cheap, well maybe I am, but I always hate buying a product and doesn't work as advertised.
Any links for TESO would be great. I did check out their website and saw their videos.
Anyone else at least getting excited for TESO?
Wish I could change the subject line from GW to TESO
Bah, just watched angry joes review on beta on youtube. The game seemed awesome, I just always hated the slow combat in the elder series. I wish they would put more mobs in the game. Then kill 1 or 2 monsters then go running for 10 minutes
Tried it and stopped after a month. The main issue is there is no progression, your capped at what ever the level is for whatever your doing so gear has less meaning and since you can use any build you want at any time you never really get to obtain new abilities that you get excited for when leveling. The leveling up trees are meh as far as character investment are.
Basically everything can kicks your ass at any time. Use ability 1 then 2 then 3 and if X happens use X and X repeat over till you kill your target. The fluid combat is nice but everything just becomes a standard routine like WoW.
I also played when the game first game out so there were a lot of bugs and broken quests. A LFG function would have been nice as finding people to help out in story dungeons was difficult (guess WoW spoiled me)... I'm sure things have changed since then.
I think I'm just turned off from MMORPG's as in the end they are all similar to WoW in some sense, so you might as well play WoW... Until some revolutionizing game sets new standards I'll stay away. The most interesting alternative I've come across is EvE and I'm sure it's older or around the same age as WoW.
played it at launch, and it definitely scratched the mmo itch for a while. leveling was fun, combat and dynamic events are cool. I enjoyed a lot of the story, locations, etc. but as others mentioned, long term it just gets repetitive. I do have to give them credit, they update w/ new content at least monthly. if you're a completionist, getting all the landmarks and doing all the puzzles is a pretty good time. glad you made the topic, I need something to do until 2.01 goes live. asura necro incoming!
I played, actually tried GW2,and I liked leveling and there is a lot nice dynamic quests, tho i did not try high end dungeons and pvp,but in my opinion is totally worth it to try.
The thing that gets my attention in rpgs are slaying monsters. It looks like Teso is not cool in that regard (never thought the elder series ever did have good combat)
Add on top the monthly subs....
Gw2 looks like more fun currently and better value. Hopefully sometime tomorrow I'll be posting as a gw2 member
Well, I already made up my mind and I'm going to purchase Gw2 very shortly. In case someone reads this before I do buy (within 20 minutes) is there any reason to buy the deluxe over the standard? But I'll probably get the deluxe edition.
The more important question: some do's and don'ts would be very much appreciated.
I already read to no worry to rush for max level. Explore the areas and take your time. Something about saving points at level 20?
you get xp for literally everything, so its pretty fun to level. kill mobs, harvest resources, search out vistas, try some crafting, you get good xp for all of it, so it doesn't really matter what you do. I'd try to do your personal story up to visiting lions arch, because the nextstory update might blow the city up, and it'd be a shame to start playing and never get to check it out.
Pro.
-Fun to explore
-I feel like the leveling curve is well balanced
-Skills / traits (passive) are well designed ( you can have many many many build )
-Gathering resource is very addicting, you see a mining nod and you want to reach it, even if you gotta climb a damn mountain you'll get it.
-Random events on the map is very nice ( big dragon with chest reward, as an example )
-Puzzle event is also nice
Con.
-Once you reach 80, after a week I had my best in slot equipement for my heal/support guardian...
-You can do fractals (high end dungeon) to upgrade your trinket ring. But it looked very a long grinding to me eye.
-I don't feel like the random event are worth doing at lvl 80 since you are level capped.
Well, I pretty liked the game leveling from 1 to 80. Then I had fun for like 2-3 week after getting my exotic armor / weapon / trinket / ring set. Exploring the map to 100%. Didn't had to do crafting since I had all my best in slot... (except fractals trinket / ring but these aren't craftable).
After these 2-3 week, I found my self doing dungeons / event for nothing.. I think the end-game content is almost not there.
So I leveled another toon to 80 and I had a lot of fun again but for a third... no thanks :P.
Hope it helps

Never play GW, but it looks pretty cool. Want to dig my teeth into the next game

GW2... Thought th at game would be the mmo of my life. Stopped a month after and never lookted back.
Theres no carrot. No reason to be level 80. Or getting gear. Everything is static.

The key giveaway is now over, with no keys left :/
You could have searched on google for curse+giveaway
Just wish the deluxe edition wasn't still selling for over 60 bucks 2 years after launch.
Idk why I'm so stingy sometimes.

Did someone say.... necromancer. ...?

Any advice would be welcomed by this noob
literally, this sounds like a ton of fun!!!
the first thing i do in rpgs is explore! I love to find little things to pick and stuff. I know it sounds so dumb, but thats what I always do!
I made a thread over on their official forums and I've been welcome with open arms
someone sugest to go into the mist at first to play around with lvl 80 characters.
sounds like i need to go to lions arch right after that!
