I'm pretty sure it was a death animation, meaning the Barb was near death/dead already and the animation was prompted. I doubt a boss, any boss, will be allowed a "one-hit kill" skill, that would be absurd.
I don't quite like the death animation from the bosses. Sure it's nice to see and all but it takes a second or so away from the boss to be attacking you.
On topic of having these mini-animations for your own character...
I would disagree with having them included. That would be far too "over the top" for my taste and the GOW influences will start pouring in. The game is a simple hack'n'slash online RPG with some great lore, if you want death animations go play GOW3 when it comes out.
If you want simply animations and simply flop over deaths then go play D2.
Do you guys think that every skill will be beneficial in different ways and not useless? Because I wouldn't want blizzard wasting time animating and coding a skill that will be useless past a few acts.
How do you guys think blizzard will approach making every skill useful in the situations that need them. I just hope that we have a real CHOICE of what skills we get to play with and still be viable throughout the game.

i think whirlwind is pretty special, that charge skill is too. Leap is also "special".
The head bitten off is definitely not a death animation that activates when the boss is nearby. thats absurd. That would take away from the boss' fighting time and just be dumb. It possibly could be a 1 hit KO move that takes a long time to get ready, thats why you should always be moving. It probably activates when you stand in the same place a long time. It would be cool of it was 1 hit though, adds to the difficulty and it would be fun seeing some super high level being killed instantly

I agree. These people want an expansion to D2. They can play D2 forever for all i'm concerned.
