Green aura in D2 meant that you had been poisoned, perhaps the creatures in that dungeon had been poisoned with some other foul concoction that exudes a green aura, its not outside the bounds of a fantasy realm such as sanctuary. I still don't see why green aura is a no go, I mean would red aura be ok?
Yeah murder, honestly the red looks much better. It could at least be tied in some way to the torches.
Edit: I'm going to guess that all of creepsville's posts in this thread after I've ignored him have been personal attacks directed against me and anything I say. Oooooh how I wish I could see them =P

Light radius is "there" and there is no explanation for its existence. Your character has no torch but, no lantern, no medieval flashlight. But light radius not returning was one of the major complaints about D3.
I didn't know you had a PHD in demonology.
That's a reasonable point. Given that all the characters have some type of magic power, enchanted armor/weapons, etc, it's much more understandable to have a light radius to me.
As a side note, it's nice to discuss things with someone who is civil, has constructive points, and a sense of humor (not that you aren't either Dae). Time to watch the olympics though.

As I said before, at least it's coming from somewhere. As opposed to simply being there. Covering a significant portion of the ground and walls. For an entire dungeon.
Edit: to Dae
btw, I agree in some sense Jordan. Red is a color of evil. Greenish/blue, however, is a scooby doo tactic at best, and a direct WoW transfer at worst.

And what of the church in D1, with the intense red light shining through the windows? Let me guess, evil aura?
The main difference there is that there could be a light source outside of the church. I can't think of a single instance in Diablos 1 or 2 where unexplained lighting, without light sources no less(!), persists for any significant amount of time. Even in the den of evil shot, the light is coming from either the sun or heaven in the form of a beam; it originates somewhere off screen. The green light of the D3 dungeon is simply there.
Plus, red is the color of Diablo's magic, and the aura of any self-respecting demon.

It doesn't make sense to me. What source does it come from? They're BEAMS of light. Like they're coming through holes in the roof, but yet... no holes.
True it's the end of a quest and shows that the Den is "cleansed" but either magic lighting is no more realistic than the other.
Maybe they'll make it so that the green lighting is from the area being corrupted and will disappear once a quest is completed or a boss is killed. That'd be a lot better to me.
It took me 2 seconds to come up with an explanation that makes sense for those rays of light. Even if they were purple with rainbows on either side, they only last for the 10 seconds or so that it takes you to get out of the dungeon once it's been cleansed. It's completely different than an entire dungeon of constant, unexplainable lighting.
I mean, what....corruption leaves a trail of permanent photons that continually rebound off the ground and walls, "eerily"? No, the only way to explain the green lighting is that it looks creepy and sets a certain mood. In a scooby doo movie.
Edit: yeah, I realize it's only the first dungeon. It'll be nice if, despite their public stance, they take a close look at the rest of the game

Well the green light is the one thing that bothers me the most also but saying that you can't justify it is kind of... meh. I mean it's Blizzards game they can add the light if they want.
I mean in the Den of Evil that "holy light" shouldn't be there. Where is it coming from? There are no holes in the ceiling, you can walk all over the field above the Den and there are no holes. Is it just magically appearing? If so, why can't the same be said for the green light but it's from a unholy magic.
I'm not justifying the green light, I just like to see things from both sides of the fence.
At least that light makes sense in some way. Also, it's the ending of a quest and provides needed visual confirmation. It's misleading to compare it in any way to the constant green lighting in the dungeon.

I don't know what to say. lol there is no green light. If you can't understand this simple concept there is no point in you even arguing your point because it's based on wrong information.
Somewhat of an intra-thread necro, but that is bullshit. It's not a matter of opinion. The stones are not green. The sourceless lighting on the walls and ground is. End of story.

Yeah Diablo is almost guaranteed to succeed. If it does fail then I will truly lose all faith in the gaming industry.
There's no way diablo will fail in terms of sales. I'd give it a 30-40% chance of succeeding in terms of all elements of play remaining true to the diablo universe (besides the artwork, which is clearly not). It doesn't matter though, because Blizzard's new target is the WoW type gamer, and remaining true the franchise is secondary to profit. Smart business model, huge failure to the fans that loved this company from the beginning.

What if we didn't pick the worst possible outcome and bitch non-stop about it.
More likely is that the team that produced WoW, the abomination, and whose unfortunate style has transferred itself onto Diablo 3 will taint other aspects of the franchise in addition to its art direction.

So what am I supposed to draw from that contingency? What if its not the only aspect? Well, then it will be more wowish. So what?
Analyzing contingencies is not a crucial part of life in the least, do you think barnacles analyze contingencies? Human life as we know it? Sure I'll give you that, but life in general, no.
Barnacles? What the fuck are you talking about. Of course I'm talking about human life. Anticipating every possibility is essential to success in any academic or business endevour.
What if questions are only irrelevant when there is no reasonable possibility that the situation they describe will ever be realized. That is absolutely not the case when I speak of Diablo 3 possibly being similar to WoW.

The light around the character is the light radius, R.I.P haha.
The rays of white light are holy light that finally can shine through the den now that it has been purged of evil.
Nobody has been able to justify the nonsense green lighting in any way, other than saying it looks "eerie" or cool.
