As I said in the thread that spawned this thread, I played Hellgate Beta.
It was a nice game graphic wise, the main lore/quests were
nice as you unveiled what happened in the story.
1. However, it got old very fast between level 15 - 22.
2. The scenes were basically the same thing over and over.
3. The game was developed from the ground ... up ... to be an instanced game. Rather than a game with a world with instances.
That really made me put the game down missing many days of extended beta gameplay added by Flagship. I leveled an Evoker to lvl 22, then a Templar to around level 16. I simply couldn't take it anymore. Unplugged myself from Beta.
The reason? I got sick of the loading screen each time I jumped to another location. It was instance --- load screen -- finish intance -- load screen. Over and over and over again.
I like World of Warcraft. It is a huge world you can ride through with no loading screens, restrictions, or visual transition from place to place. It is an open world. And if I choose to ... I can enter an instance. That's how Hellgate should have been built instead of imposing from the ground up an instanced world.
Can you imagine watching and waiting for 30,000 loading screens in less than 5 months? geez. No thank you. Diablo II was a open place with few dungeons here and there.
