Valid points all on Demonsbane. Definitely underdeveloped. I guess I'm just a sucker for how grand the battles were and stuff like that.
*semi spoiler*
Elaboration on "Stuff like that"- For instance, in The Kingdom of Shadow there is this grand, long, climax toward a glimpse of Diablo at the end. As if, you only get a taste of the adventure. But, in Demonsbane, you feel like you get the entirety of it. This is probably due to the feeling of directness that might be a little bit elementary in comparison to the skills of Knack. So to me it's a plus and a minus.Demonsbane is more akin to The Sin War trilogy in the sense that the setting is quite epic and right in the heart of the Diablo universe while a book like The Black Road, although greatly entertaining, felt like a side quest. Don't get me wrong. Thats definitely not a bad thing. Books like that only make Diablo lore richer. But, after not having Diablo 3 for soooooo long, when I read a Diablo book I would rather have something more directly pertinent to the main plot.

Really? I mean..maybe the plot was a tad bit thin but it didn't bother me. Personally I don't like how slow The Black Road begins. And in stark contrast, Demonsbane is filled with action the entire time! Maybe that's just me.

If you want to read one that will kick start your motivation to read them, read Demonsbane first. It can only be described as short and sweet...or...short and brutally awesome.

This is just a confusing post. I don't understand your problem. The books go in chronological order in the universe of sanctuary. Start at page 1 and continue until the last page of Demonsbane.
And on The Sin Wars, you don't have to read them first really. It will help a bit but the time gap is so great that its not super necessary. But, in my opinion the Sin War trilogy is the very very best books in the Diablo series aside from maybe Kingdom of Shadow. so if you want the most exciting and probably more important books, go read the Sin War. It's probably pretty likely that a lot of that info will be somehow adapted into D3.
