Well there will always be demons and angels. You can't kill them all. We know angels come from the Crystal Arch though which could potentially be destroyed I guess. I imagine demons have something similar.
I have a question that I'm not sure was brought up before. Since there is a council, can an angel just go rogue and turn vigilante without the rest's approval? So even if Imperius wanted to destroy Sanctuary, woudln't he have to go through the council? I understand they all have different roles, and some might be in fact more powerful than others. Or are they? I understand there is a question section and all, but given this is a subject that mainly attracts my attention and you have layed out Imperius so well and detailed in one page I decided to post my thoughts here. If need be I'd move the reply to the proper section. Sorry in advance.
As far as I can remember they're all basically on equal ground in terms of power, but of course that doesn't mean an angel can't go against the council's wishes. Tyrael has.
For what? You can't seriously think we're not going to fight Imperius? I mean, if you really believe that, that's fine, but...
Okay so this is some pretty spoilery spoilers, read at your own risk.
From what I have seen of datamined stuff the last quest/act involves defending Heaven from waves of demons. So it's not a bad guess that we help him defend the gates. The book of cain makes it pretty clear he defends heaven along with other angels.
Pretty sure you didn't read that. Also Inarius was the most powerful at one time, when he was connected to the world stone. The poster might have meant that. I dont think it ever says any angel is stronger than the other in general though.
I noticed that but people seem to think it's too far fetched.

Yeah i noticed that..cool find!
i think its imperius without the doubt, but the question is does he appear in the tristram cathedral? or is it just tyrael..
I think Imperius and Tyrael go at it and Imperius throws Tyrael down into the Cathedral.
OR Imperius decides to take matters of Sanctuary into his own hands and flys down there himself.
I havent read every single post in this thread, but I havent noticed much talk of the possibility that the angel could be Inarius. I havent read all of the books so maybe there is something in one of the books i havent read that could sum up why it may not be a valid theory.
I think the reason Inarius is generally ruled out, at least more so than Imperius is because of this description of him from the D1 manual.
He bound Inarius with tremendous chains and slowly tore the wings from the back of the angel. Great barbed hooks were then used to stretch out the once glowing skin and his features were distorted by vile powers. Many of the followers of Inarius were given as gifts to Baal and Diablo, but the rest were molded to match the bloated image of the now crippled angel. To this day, Inarius said to be trapped in Hell within a chamber of mirrors, his eyelids torn from his face as he is forced to gaze upon his misshapen form for all eternity. His misguided followers now serve as Hell's taskmaster taking the anguish of their lost glory out upon the bodies of others.
The angel seems to still have wings and is in pretty good condition. So unless the D1 manual isn't canonical anymore I don't think it's Inarius.
Well I do think they said the Cinematic Teaser was clips from the overall storyline so it could happen pretty late in the game or maybe after the first act or so. You never know.
I had used a link that Atrumentis provided me for the original picture and his bandwidth went over so all his links were broken so I just added in a picture and forgot to update it.
Well if we're going by what's said in the Diablo manual Inarius's wings have been ripped off and he has been mutilated.

Of course that's not to say things in the lore can't change.
I can't see why Inarius would want to work for the Burning Hells and destroy Sanctuary though.

I'm thinking the angel there is Inarius. The portal behind him is clearly red, and red portals are known to maneuver beings to and from the Burning Hells.
Isn't the portal made by Tyrael to Harrogath red? I always thought red portals were just non player portals. The one Anya makes is red also.

Am I the only one noticing the three figures on top or am I making stuff up by seeing them there?
The figure on the left kind of does look like a person/thing, the others though just look like some kind of stone architecture. It is odd though.
Yeah I added that picture to the opening post yesterday.
To me it looks like Imperius unless it's some completely new angel.
That's pretty Archangel of Warish armor. The sword or cross is gone but maybe the cross only appears sometimes. The description of him did say it blazed on his chest. Maybe it shows up when hes angry.
Anyway the structure he's standing on does look like a sword with the blade turned down. There also appears to be a portal behind him to me.

Notice the crest on his chest looks VERY close to the one in the concept picture also. Sort of like a star.
(Btw I purposely haven't updated any of my views on this because I wanna see how right my initial thoughts were four years ago.)

Sorry this thread was REALLY unupdated but I changed that part and I think the rest still fits.
I think Imperius and Tyrael go at it and Imperius throws Tyrael down into the Cathedral.
OR Imperius decides to take matters of Sanctuary into his own hands and flys down there himself.
Yea the Sin War is supposed to be the most canonical and it only mentions that Mephisto tortured Inarius, so it's possible.
If the D1 manual is canonical also though, I find it hard to think it may be Inarius.
Inarius would be a cool addition to the game though.
But my bet is leaning toward Imperius.

I have that on the first post and it's the same on the Main D3 site, maybe I'm not getting what you're saying...
There I updated it.

Fixed now.
