As i am going deeper into the game and the guides, i struggle more and more with finding the best balance for it.
Im using the usual non-pet build with stormshield and esoteric and right now my stats are
Armor 15k
Average res 1600
3.000.000 hit points
(ofc that goes with all cdr/rarc maxed)
I heard somewhere on forums the 1:10 proportion b/n all res and armor is what we should focus for, but the proportion between armor/res and vitality is never mentioned.
What are the basic laws of forming the protection gear for support wd? Should i maybe roll some paragon vit into int for more resistance or maybe enchant my gear with armor instead of vitality for better balance? Maybe there is a source i can read about that all at once?
That armor:allres proportion is a gross generalization and doesn't really account for the different rolls and the different stats that certain classes have. In general, the "bonus armor" roll is not desired on any strength/dexterity class, but quite useful on intelligence classes. It's the other way around with all resist. Also note that on some slots there is a "high armor roll" (chest, legs, amulet, helmet), so especially on legs every int class wants to get the high armor roll (on the other slots, damage stats are more important usually).
A long time ago I build a quick website that lets you compare armor and all resist for specific values you have and see what you want: http://d3resource.com/mitigation/
As for vitality/life, it depends very much on your build, class, and skills. Some classes have skills that work on certain percentage of your life, and in that case having more health is desirable. If that is not the case, having mitigation is the way to go. There's a really great piece about that here:
Anyways, so much for the random advice. Now more particularly tied to your witch doctor: First of all, your pets inherit your mitigation (all resist/armor), but not your vitality/life%. Which means that a big health pool helps you, but not your pets. At the same time, for support the game is a bit different; it would actually be best if you get your support pieces from str/dex classes. That is because you can make up for missing all resist through gems (diamonds) and all resist on every single gear piece and get to 1500-2000 even without having any intelligence - but you can't get to 15000 armor (or at least it's very difficult) if you have only intelligence on gear. My desired support gear looks like that: 1) str/dex; 2) vitality; 3) all resist; 4) CDR; 5) armor/life% as backup stat for any of the aforementioned. Also, having good secondaries helps (melee/ranged damage reduction on bracers, offhand, chest), or even elite damage reduction (primary stat on chest and offhand).
Support gear is relatively easy to come by, so if you inspect the top people on the leaderboard you usually get a good feeling for what stats you want on a certain item.
Thanks a lot for your answers and for the link, that all gave me some info to work with!
I think i will enchant the missing parts of my gear with str and dex to get some armor and throw many (if not all) paragon points to int, this way changing the overwhelming vitality (hit points) on everything i have into what seemed to me a better call: all res and armor, Your calculator kinda proves it too, so yea, I ll go with it, thanks.
