posted a message on No paladins, please.
Just had to chime in hear. Paladins per se were never historically all that powerful. Back in 1.09 and before Paladins were actually quite rare. The popular melee was the Barb, and Druid. In fact more often you would use a Barb, or Windforce equipped Amazon to take down Baal or Diablo.

Only when 1.10 runewords, synergies, etc.. came out did the Paladin become more popular. But it should be said the 'hammerdin' I don't think was ever meant to be that powerful.

But RPGs have always had some form of Paladin type character, and I fully expect D3 will also. In almost every RPG type game or stories the characters like Wizard, Sorcerer, Amazon, etc. have always been relegated to supporting characters. Going back years before D1 the paladin type char use to be the main and often only character. In most of these games the paladin would do most of the fighting with the other chars mainly assisting.

Well that idiotic petition of "54,000" does not have 54,000 different individuals, hence why it is a BS petition that is largely ignored by most. Take it with a grain of salt, I have.

posted a message on Can You Accurately Predict The Release Date Of -Three-
Kind of tough to say these days as more and more game companies are cutting down on beta test time. If they are currently in the stage of just adding content, well what does that exactly entail? Game engine, acts, etc.. all finished, maybe 6-8 months for adding content, then 2-3 months of beta test (or possibly 6 months). I actually would not be surprised if this fall at Blizzcon a beta is released.

The reason for that is I believe Blizzard is timing the release of announcements on a set schedule according to development. Why announce now, and maybe not in October? Why not announce last year (well because SC2 was announced). I think they announced in Paris to allow a 3 month free publicity hype cycle, then that wears down. In October a beta, or demo is released that will of course renew the attention.

I could not fathom though the idea it would take 2 years to complete, that would just be unconsciously inept to cost that much time developing. As much as people love to repeat the saying that Blizzard never releases something until it's finished, there is another group who cares less about the hype and more about the costs....they're called investors. To cost 6 years of development for a game is not going to please them any. Even 4 years is extremely long even today, so maybe there is the possibility this winter.

    It's the internet.
People spell shit all sorts of ways up here.

The only thing that gets me is when people type in ALL CAPS!
Also.. if the sentences are entirely one paragraph and I can't tell what goes with what. =|

Part of it is age of course, but another sad trend seems to be now it is 'hip' or cool to basically NOT use proper sentence structure, spelling, grammar, etc..Equally bad is now people get so lazy that they simply do not spell out words, but rather use a mix of acronyms and bastardization or words. Acceptable in a live action game when you are short on time typing, but never on a forum. This is an actual quote I just pulled now from a post at Jsp "He Say to me im newb cuz its a 2-3deli....omg". Worse is when you have people that for whatever reason deem it not necessary to capitalize, or use punctuation. So you end up reading what should be 10-15 sentances that are nothing more than one large mesh of words.

p.s. If you fear spelling errors...use Firefox as it has a spell check (I can't remember now whether it is built in or a plug-in they have at their site). Works wonders for me!:D

I think in the beginning way back when Blizzard was more concerned with storage space, and needed a method to insure they would not need more than was necessary. The system we have now where by the character can be un-expired as long as the name has not been taken is a huge improvement. But 90 days is very limiting with my experience with D2. Usually when I take a break from this game it will be for months longer than the 90 day limit. My preference would be a 180 day limit (even 120-150). It would be a nice feature if we could register the account at Blizzard and get an e-mail notification that are characters are expiring.

I am sure when D3 comes out it will be tons of fun and all, but there will be a time when the game just becomes somewhat tiring. It seems most people playing D2 now usually last for about 5-6 months before they quit for either good or long periods of time. I do not see any reason why the actual character data should increase in size in comparison to D2, so all that would be left is the question of whether names need to be expired in 90 days. One other alternative to through out is that you keep the character, but are forced to give a new name before playing if that name is taken. Names have never been a problem with me seeing that the average Bnet kiddies all want to have names that usually only a 12 year old could find humerous or enjoyable (how many variations of cold/ice/frosty + breasts do we need for sorcs now?). And I always love the people that put in as many X's as they Xx_xCanx_xX.

Is there any reason for this personal attack? Or do you just need to e-rage through the anonymity of the internet to make of for a lack of certain things in life? Maybe New generation Forum-Troll would be better? For that is all you are doing.

I think this is a legitimate question whether accounts will last past 90 days.

Really sad how this site is just about 1 level above Battle.net's forums and Jsp in terms of trolling, immaturity, and outright disrespect.

Good to know what kind of community this is here though

p.s. If you do not like the topic, you can always just ignore it.

To this day I still can not fathom the ignorance of the masses who jumped to the insane conclusion that since some of the developers from D2 worked on Hellgate, henceforth Hellgate is D3.

Equally absurd is the idea that only the developers of D2 can make D3. May very well turn out that D3 is everything D2 should have been, but now 10x better. Nor is there any thought that quite possibly the D2 team could have made a worse clone of D3. Keep in mind that their original work was trashed, and the new team started from scratch. We have know way of knowing just how awfuly they could have made D3.

Besides, these are not great pieces of art now are they, they are just video games.

I don't like PVP in games like this. It seems so redundant. It wouldn't be as big of an issue of items and spec didn't play a larger role in the game than player skill, but that's sort of the point of rogue-like games.

Kind of hit the nail on the head there, PvP in D2 had much less to do with skill, and more so how much the other kiddies spent on Ebay for their gear opposite other players who play with what they found. I am sure someone will now make the baseless and unprovable claim how they could take on anyone with 'their' ubers skills blah blah.

Skill is taking a rifle in Call of Duty 4 and beating snipers at their own game. Skill is holding down an entire team with said rifle...alone. So enough of this pure and 110% BS that there is skill in D2.

There's nothing wrong with having a bit of animosity between players. It makes the game more competative and really gets people going. I don't know why Blizzard doesn't see this. Besides the so-called cooperation that Blizzard is trying to bring is artificial because they are forcing people into it. People will always be free to insult eachother, and do all sorts of assholish things. The only difference in D3 is that we won't be able to PK people for it.

There is only one way to bring more cooperative play to the game, and thats to introduce quests that require a lot of planning and teamwork to pull off.

That's maybe how you 14 year olds see this game, but a lot of us old timers play for the cooperative nature. If we want to play against each other competitively, we go play a true competitive game. Artificial only in your eyes, but there are a lot more who applaud this. So it looks like D3 will NOT be you, so enjoy D2. Adios

Yeah, I bet it will turn into another PK/Anti-PK thread. As soon as the flames start burnin I WILL report it. Getting sick of the name calling and such with NO REAL intelligent defense or opposition.

It is really just beating a dead horse at this point. Same argument over and over. Fact is PK will not be implemented, and there is below 0% chance the devs will change. We just need to move on, the war is over, armistice has been reached.

With so much else revolving around this game, it is just pointless to continue haranguing over the same topic. Plus, we still know so little about the game. Hell, we still only know 2 classes.

We don't know anything about Auction house, MF, items, shared experience, how many in party/game, how many acts, different difficulty modes, respecs, levels, quests, areas, maps, creatures and bosses.

Let's just focus on that and move on. If PKing is all you live for, then there is still D2 and any number of FPS games

It should be a great time.

No you are definitely not alone. We may even see a large number of people from the still thriving SP community finally come back to battle.net, many of whom left years ago sickened by the behavior of cattle.net.

I for one eagerly await this game, and am excited about getting into a big party the first day and going through as far as we can. I doubt I will even touch SP.

So far what we know of the game, the aspects they are adding to promote coop are great, and I fully expect more good news in the future with even more positive aspects.

You know I have thought about this a lot, in regards to whether we will be able to use our D2 names or not (while still keeping the D2 names). Better question to be answered will be the changes made to name structures. At the moment there is a limit on length, and you can not space between names, so you have to use _ or -, so will they do away with this?

posted a message on Pking is probably out. Bashiok comments.
This is like a debate between high school debate squad and university professors.

It's Fun=Well then if I find hacking fun, you won't complain if I hack your account, delete your chars, and take all your items? I mean it's all for fun right?

Competitive= No, competitive is PvP. This is the Minnesota Vikings Professional vs. the south Minneapolis junior varsity girls badminton club. Get real, this is not competition, this is about skilless losers that the ONLY way they can kill someone is if there is enough of a level difference. Your arguments on this is sadly pathetic...you lose the whole argument right here. You want competition, go do Pvp or play a FPS game.

It's Part of Diablo= No, cooperative play was part and core of Diablo. It is the reason we have the party system, shared expereience, players that synergize. Also, if some of you newbies knew anything, you would have known they planned a while ago on changing the whole method of hostile. Only reason this was never patched was because the old team left, and the new team became bogged down having to re-write the whole game which took more time, and never allowed them to fully work on a new patch as they intended. By 2006 the idea was dropped because the plan then was to simply get D3 out and patch D2 only when necessary.

Even if this argument was bought, which it isn't, then this would indicated D2 to be a complete failure has the vast majority of players DO not participate in this.

Well Bill Roper...=Would this be the same people that designed a game so poorly, with so much imbalance and flaws that even to today it is a wreck of code? The same people that made a game so poorly that it took hackers almost NO effort to make their own items and bring them from single player into closed Battle.net. The same team that had the flawed logic that by selling of one of the rarest items would produce a nice cool event called Dclone, when in fact it takes a 5 year old 2 seconds to realize this merely gives MORE incentive to dupe. We could go on now couldn't we, but you all get the point, D2 was a mess of a design
