posted a message on Diablo III Producer Justifies Controversial Art Direction: Color Is Your Friend
    Quote from "Blodwin" »
Looking at it from a Company design point of view I really appreciated what the panel had to say about how they have core values in their art department to keep them on track and also keep them distinct from their other IPs.
Unfortunately, they never once stated what those 'core values' are, aside from the word 'horror', which is a quality I don't think we've yet seen.

I've got it..................................Tyrael is Azmodan, Cain is Belial
I had that thought yesterday, briefly, quickly dismissing it because:

    Quote from "Alaric17" »
Cain and Tyrael are kind of best buds
Belial and Azmodan are bitter enemies who would be at each other's throats faster than you could blink. They've been warring each other over Hell for centuries.

The one thing that I have problems regarding the Meteor (comet is more appropriate)
Comet is the least appropriate term if we're actually talking space debris.
    • Asteroids are extremely large rocks, some the size of small planets.
    • Comets are also large rocks, but with a large quantity of ice as well, which slowly boils off into a long trail of gas. They take weeks to move across the sky.
    • Meteoroids are smaller rocks. When they enter an atmosphere and ignite, they are called meteors. They move through the atmosphere at the speed shown in the cinematic. If they impact, they are called meteorites.
Sorry for astro-geeking out, but 'comet is more appropriate' set off a reflex. A typographical twitch.

    Quote from "Diablo-Fiend" »
Now we know that in regular descent of Meteors, these fragments are parts which fall off. What is falling off of this one? Is it just extra effects to promote is as a Meteor, or is there something more to it? (i.e. Angel wings burning off, clothes?).
My first thought on seeing the trailer, after seeing the concept art, was that it was Tyrael plummeting to Sanctuary after being judged by the Angiris Council, since it has been established since the destruction of the Worldstone that the wrath of Heaven is quite fiery -- Tyrael's sword engulfs in orange flame when he hurls it towards the Worldstone, and likewise the Angel who confronts Tyrael here himself ignites to do so, and the same sort of fire is also seen burning from Tyrael's chest here, as well as where his wings are being severed in the same image. So, I think more wings tearing off during his fall is the most likely explanation. He has fourteen, right? Judging by the concept art depicting him wingless, he did not seem to lose any clothing.

It's also possible that the cinematic artists were simply told to depict a meteor streaking across the sky, without being told what it was.

Alternatively, we could be totally off-track.

I can't say I'm looking forward to a StarCraft MMO or Diablo MMO because we don't know if they are ever coming, so I have to say StarCraft II for now.

I am intrigued by the mysterious new MMO, considering that for it they seem to be using modern technology, for once. Currently modern, anyway. But I can't really 'look forward' to it if I don't know its setting and haven't liked Blizzard's approach to the MMO genre thus far.

According to what Lore? Diablo? or Common Christianity?
In Diablo's lore, the Archangel Inarius grew so weary of the eternal war against Hell that he created Sanctuary as a place where Angels and Demons could exist peacefully, and he created the Worldstone to hide it from Heaven and Hell.

The Angels and Demons that chose to join him in Sanctuary together spawned a hybrid race called the Nephalem, more powerful than even the beings which sired them.

Lilith, the daughter of Mephisto and mother of Andariel, got it into her head to use the Nephalem as soldiers, and she systematically murdered each and every one of the Angels and Demons in Sanctuary, except for her lover, the Archangel Inarius. Inarius wanted no part of her plan, nor did he wish to harm her, and so behind her back, Inarius altered the Worldstone to not only shield Sanctuary from Heaven and Hell, but also to weaken the power of the Nephalem with each generation. And so slowly, the Nephalem became the mortals that live in Sanctuary today.

Heaven captured Inarius and made a pact with Mephisto that he would leave Sanctuary alone in exchange for Inarius as his own prisoner. Heaven then wiped the memory of Sanctuary's inhabitants in order to allow them to develop on their own with no knowledge of their former power.

If there is a place in Diablo Lore that states this fact then damn, cause a Seraph would KICK ASS.
A playable Angel would make the human classes rather obsolete, no? They're not Nephalem again, yet.

How could it? The Witch Doctor plays the role the Necromancer did.

I predict there will be a "cleric" class, one of the artworks shows a guy w/ a blue aura in his left hand w/ a long beard. I think this one will be mentioned next.
I somehow doubt that any of the current concept art depicts any unannounced playable classes -- only monsters, NPCs, and announced playable classes.

The Tristram Cathedral is home to some sort of cult.

It is stated somewhere that Cain travelled to the Tristram Cathedral in earch of some information. It seems entirely possible that they captured Cain while he was wandering the place and did something to him. Imagine for a moment that they are a Cult of Belial.

Edit: Great title on that concept art in the lower right. I hadn't noticed the resemblance.

what i think is funny with that comet is that tristram was not utterly destoyed by a comet at that size. it would in real life, but yet this a different world:D
Even tiny meteorites can be brilliant during descent. You really can't very well judge the size of the object by the size of the fireball, as the latter depends on everything from the object's composition to its angle of entry.

For example, this bright meteorite travelled halfway across the United States and ultimately just left a dent in someone's car: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sByie3TUsuw
