They did that already. It was a game called StarCraft. -

Now, where exactly do the Necromancers fit in all this? I don't see your point about them. However, I don't think they'll be available as a character class, as they've been supplanted by the Witch Doctor. Though incorruptible, I don't doubt they may have an agenda of their own, one meant to bring about stability for the wrld of Sanctuary -- and all other realms -- that, at first glance, may seem to help Hell. Maybe they want to re-establish the status quo ante and resurrect the Three, as they brought a balance in their view?

Anyways, I think Tyrael might go rogue... but not for evil purposes, but rather to fulfill a good to which his brothers are blind.

At the end of Baal's run, he dies and purges a great many spirits from his body, all of which swirl around for a moment before heading straight into the World Stone. Now, I didn't notice this before but these spirits can also be seen in the cinematic, "Destruction's End", where they are mere blurs in the background as Tyrael mumbles in some unfathomable tongue.
I also didn't think about this before but Baal was able to function well enough with out his Soul Stone, though he lacked the energy of will required to assume his proper form until seizing the stone from Marius. The more I think about it, the more it seems either Tyrael was a fool -- or Tyrael knew what he was doing the whole time as he directed the Adventurers in the futile goal of destroying the stones.
If "Tyrael" IS YOUR REAL NAME!!!
But if the Spirits of the Three were not in the stones, then what became of them? Surely they would have manifested themselves in some way after the death of their corporeal bodies? Another note is that each of the Stones had been shattered, keeping them from properly containing the demons.
But if Tyrael knew what he was doing the whole time, and knew of the Stones' worthlessness, then why the elaborate ruse? Perhaps only to knock them out of commission temporarily and remove their source of power? Again, this doesn't remove them as a threat.
Ultimately, maybe all Tyrael really wanted to do was destroy the World Stone -- which he accomplished -- AND any remnants of it, such as the Soul Stones. Perhaps, were the Soul Stones left unaccounted for, the World Stone could have been regenerated from them? If so, this would imply Tyrael IS working against the designs of Heaven, and may have gone rogue. It may not necessarily have been for the sake of evil, of course; but rather, to force his heavenly counterparts to acknowledge the importance of Sanctuary and force them to face Hell alongside mortal kind? Again, I suspect the working of Belial behind the scenes; perhaps he lied to someone of great import -- either to Tyrael himself or other angels of high stature -- to instill some rivalry among the angelic host? It HAS been said that heaven has gone curiously dormant since the banishing of the three.
So:
Diablo: Banished in Hell
Mephisto: Banished in Sanctuary
Baal: Banished in Heaven
Belial: Working his dissembling magic
Asmodan: Current lord of Hell and general of the Horned Death
Duriel, Andariel: Dead, dead and DEAD... 'til Diablo 3.

Blizzard's lead artist is the badass Samwise Didier. He prefers Warcraft over the other franchises, and his style is very exaggerated and illustrative. But he's mostly conceptual, too.
Blizzard has a lot of artists, both illustration and CG. Everything goes through a long iterative process, where each artist imbues the work with his or her own style and vision. In the end, though, it's a collaborative process, and eventually everything syncs up and comes together as the art department works on a common vision.
There's nothing to worry about; the graphic, gothic style that typifies Diablo is DEFINITELY gonna stay. Trust me.

Why is it that so many threads are invisible, by the way? I know this and others are still on the site but just don't appear when I look at a sub-forum. Strange, this place.
But yeah, I'd totally get into a game that covered the Sin Wars; there is so much Blizzard can do with that era, including the binding of the Three, Tyrael bringing about the existence of the Horadrim. Maybe the separate clans begin to fight at the beginning and end, which could lead to some very interesting intrigue and geopolitics between them. Hey, maybe you could help negotiate peace between the warring clans. Y'know, get some non-linear storyline elements in there. That would be SO sweet.
And -- maybe this is just me -- but I'd love to see a town get destroyed. You know, a town that used to be a safe haven for the player, like Tristram in D1 or the Rogue Camp is D2. It's never ever safe after a certain point. Eventually it's wiped off the map due to the efforts of binding the Three. Hell yeah.

Depicted here is a Blood Golem sketched several years ago. I'm thinking about doing another rendition sometime in the coming days. The next image is just one that goes along with the macabre theme. The subject for the second one was the sin Gluttony. It's a really bad sketch that was scanned in to be completed in Photoshop. Neither is finished.

Diablo and Ball likely resealed the chamber to keep him in and thus resealed the dimensional gate, necessitating the Staff of the Horadrim.

The art of necromancy is shunned, and as the Cult of Rathma devotes itself totally to this discipline its followers are all frowned upon. Like you, few would like having the bodies of their former loved ones manipulated by other beings, be they mortal or immortal, human or demonic or angelic. Necromancers pull upon spiritual, Prime energies to effect change in their environs, and so many laymen believe this would disturb the dead and their rest. What they don't understand is that the energies used by Rathmans are either themselves unconscious and do not (or no longer) or those of pained spirits still bound to Sanctuary.

I see what you're saying. Regardless, Tyrael was convinced the Three were still intimately bound to the Soul Stones, believing their destruction also meant that of Diablo, Baal and Mephisto. He should also know everything that Inarius told the Brothers; if Inarius revealed a way to break free of the Stones, Tyrael would know that they knew... Hrm. =\
Thanks. Of course, we could scrap this whole thing and say the Abyss will have as great a presence as the other Realms, easily allowing Diablo and co. to break the boundaries... but that's too easy and lame! I still like the idea of the World Stone embodying the identity of Sanctuary, and warping that image subsequently manipulates the World itself... but that's just me. :3
