I was using jawbreaker and still ran out of DS charges while trying to do the whole dashing 35 yards back and forth. It got old really fast and boring so I went with my regular lightning build and I am having fun again. I'm not just dashing around the screen. I dash in for the set damage and use a few EPs and LTKs then dash again and everything is dead. I have quicksilver on DS so that I can do those 2 dashes and still have a charge left over incase I need an escape.
My 2 cents: I don't believe that the 6 piece set bonus of the thousand storms was intended to make monks dash all over the screen like idiots. I think the purpose of it was to add damage to one of our non-damaging abilities. Let's be honest here even with barrage on it DS was an extremely low damage ability and the only use of it was as an escape. With the 6 set bonus you add a ton of damage to this ability. Unfortunately you have too many people trying to abuse that set bonus by dashing all over the screen with a jawbreaker on.
I took palm off completely and switched it for epiphany and noticed a huge dps spike. I also switched the rune on conviction to the attack speed rune and that helped a lot with damage as well. I think in higher torments I just need to use healing mantra until i get stronger gear.
I'm not looking to be told what gear I need. I already know I need a cindercoat and shard of hate. Just looking for advice from other fire monk players about skills and the usage of those skills. In this build I currently farm T1 and can do T2 and T3 but at a much slower rate with a higher probability of dying. My main questions are what skills would you change? How would you use them differently? Besides gear do you see anything lacking? Am I focusing on stats correctly (%FD > AS > Crit DMG > Crit Chance)?
- Should I switch the rune on exploding palm?
The way I use it now is I place it on the strongest mob and 3 of the weakest. I keep it on the large mob so that it is always ticking (such as the gold in a pack of elites) and I put it on 3 weaker mobs to get the dot rolling and popping so it stacks on the big guy.
- Dashing Strike vs Epiphany
I have tried both and for right now I prefer the Dashing Strike. I feel as if Epiphany has too long of a cooldown and less chance to be used for escapes. Are stronger fire monks using DS and Epiphany at the same time or just one or the other?
- Mantra and Passive...
I am using Retaliation and switching between Unity and Mythic Rhythm depending on if I am in a group or not (Unity in a group, MR if solo).
Stats - %FD > AS > Crit DMG > Crit Chance
After %Fire Damage I focus on attack speed mainly because I am using maces which inherently have a slower attack speed compared to axes or swords. If I find a shard of hate and burning axe of sarkkis I believe my priorities would switch to Crit DMG > AS > Crit Chance? Of course Dexterity is numero uno on the stat list (duh and or hello?) but I am talking "secondary" stats here.
