Because it is natural to want to live forever. We can call death natural all we want but the fact of the matter is, it certainly doesn't feel natural. It always seems like something that comes suddenly, unexpected and unwanted. It just isn't natural to want to die or want to really accept it.

But there is that term "aging gracefully"

Some old people seem helpless and distraught that they are no longer a youngster but then there are those that are content with life and enjoy it the same they did 50 years ago. And with that there is that since of wisdom that they carry with them.

So i guess...you decide how you age, in unhealthy or healthy fear of death that decides how well you are able to come to terms with everything :D

Yes, dieing is unfortunate and it would be better if we could live on and on. But continually thinking about it or being depressed by the fact that we will die does no good for ourselves and our wellbeing. If necessary, I force myself to always look on the positive.

Having a negative outlook on anything is a bad idea imo. It just leads to sadness, anger, and anti-social tendencies. 100% of people die, deal with it. You still have most of your life to live, and you should be grateful for that.

I still have 22000 days before I become helpless and die, and I intend to take the most out of them as possible. Death is a part of life and is inescapable, so why bother worrying about it?

well i haven't given my speech yet, but i have found some arguments against me....

    against me:
War failed to control the people and instead made them to separate as in the civil war....
can you guys give a good comeback to that?
In the case of this war, the people were already separated on key ideas such as slavery and did not tolerate each other before the war ever began. The outcome of the war was a unified country, socially controlled. And even by looking at the smaller picture, every time a country goes to war (even against itself), the people become unified. All those in the North and South were brought together within their own society because of the war by having to face a common foe; such is the result of almost all wars.

    Quote from "CrazyMasterT" »
An argument i came up with..... please tell me if its a good one:
referring to the Holocaust.... Hitler controlled the info that was sent out (and obviously kept it well hidden) because America knew the Jews were being persecuted, but they never knew that they were being tortured and persecuted to that extent. If they would have known this, they would have tried to end the war as soon as possible. But Hitler knew that and tried to keep in as much info about the persecution of the Jews to prevent major actions that could of happened...(edited)
I think this argument is pretty weak. It is entirely speculative and even still does not necessarily prove that war is a social control. A good World War Two argument would be that after the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor, the entire nation banded together and happily fought for the common cause of defeating the Nazis.

In fact, every major war of the last century in America has been initiated by a foreign attack. The people of America generally do not want to go to war, but the Government surely does for the great opportunities of money and power. Amazingly, every time USA has an opportunity to go to war, there is a major attack on the country:
    - An American cruise liner (the Lusitania) 'mistakenly' went into German waters in World War One and was torpedoed, uniting America in going to war.
    - Japanese randomly attacked Pearl Harbor in World War Two. Probably had nothing to do with America's non-stop provoking and blockades of all Japanese trade/oil.
    - An American battleship was torpedoed and sunk by Vietnamese, causing America to go into Nam. This even actually never happened and was completely fabricated. But USA used it as a launching point none-the-less.
    - 911 -> Afghanistan -> Iraq -> Iran? And for those of you who say that 911 had nothing to do with Iraq, you're right. However at the time of America's invasion, 70% of the USA thought Sadam was behind 911. The 'terrorist attack' was probably the single defining moment of our generating. And attack sparking war that was an incredible social control unifying the country.

    Quote from "CrazyMasterT" »
    one of my better arguments:
The patriot act was an act made in October 26 2001 signed to protect people from terrorists which made the govt. be able to (at high threat levels) tap in the phone lines and have more control over privacy of anybody. This, for example makes, people think about what they say on the phone and limits some of the subjects people can talk about and do. Which in my mind is social control...
Yes, good good example to point at. Those behind the scenes (major bankers like the Rockefellers) have been wanting to put in place this act for years. The first 'attack' on the World Trade center on February 26, 1993 only killed six people. Unfortunately for those trying to push the Patriot Act, this was not a significant enough event to sign an act that took away so many civil liberties and privacy from the population. However 8 years later the attack was planned much better and the Patriot Act was brought in just a month after.

Under this act, anyone can have their phones tapped, can have the government break into their house without a warrant, can be arrested, can be detained indefinitely without given a lawyer or phone call, can be locked away at Guantanamo (and tortured) forever being denied any form on communication with the outside world.

Pretty soon everyone will have a computer chip in their arm and be under constant and complete surveilance. Currency will be history and all a person's personal information and credit will be in this chip. People will accept an Orwellian fate.

War is the best way for those in power (By this I mean the government and the small groups of men and bankers who are behind most major governments, who arguably have near-total control) to:
    1. Make loads of money by adding to the country's debt/interest.
    2. Gain more influence over foreign lands.
    3. Create fear and a sense of dependence on government for the population.
    4. Give merit to take away civil liberties of the people.
    5. Use as a distraction/excuse/scapegoat for problems within country.

I heard a windforce sold for a couple grand at one point because it was so rare. Dont know if it was true, but im sure someone here would.

Hahahaha, if someone EVER spent anywhere near that amount of money on a 'pretend' item I would laugh my ass off. I would never use really money to buy 'fake' stuff (money/items) ever, just out of principle.

It doesn't matter how rare uniques are, if uniques = BEST then the elite players will still have the exact same items.

Imo random affix items (rare/crafted) should have the greatest potential for being the best, at least for the most part. With balancing all weapon types as well, this should stop cookie cutter item sets.

Also there should be more uniques and sets, and no overpowered ones that shine above the rest (Storm Shield / Windforce / Stone of Jordan...). And don't even get me started on the imba rune words like grief and enigma.

4 majour problems I had with D2 at the time were

    1) D2 was obviously unbalanced.... this was a big no-no for Blizzard which always had a reputation for releasing balanced games. For example back then Necros used Iron Maiden with Blood Golems that would never die because the IM damage would count as if the Golem did damage. Thornadins and hammerdins were everywhere and almost every mage used Frozen Orb; basically people used cookie cutter builds... heh... things sure have changed

2)Skill system. In D1 as a mage or even a warrior you could learn anything with enough stats. In D2, if you messed up on something... too bad... and playing a sorc you had to specialize in one or so skills, which seemed so much more boring (looking back, I seemed to have forgotten that in D1 you pretty much did the same with fireball and chain lightning)

3)Hype. We were promised a whole bunch of stuff, most of which I can't remember anymore but these included Barbarians that could harvest herbs, official clans/guilds, guild banks, etc. A lot of this stuff was only implemented in WoW.

4)Sameness in items. I didn't like uniques... for example way back then before even LoD, Frostburns were in. (so were SoJs obviously); if you were any kind of self-respecting caster you had to get frostburns. I'm a big fan of Teh Random, I wanted my character to be unique, not filled with uniques or sets everyone else had. (I had also forgotten that D1 also suffered from this problem somewhat - but Gambling in D2 made it worse)
Yea, I agree there were problems, but I still found the game very addictive and I was immersed in the story.
Edit: Oh, and I really agree that the best possible of each item should be magical/rare and not unique. Also it would be nice if there were more affixes balanced to make no 'clear best' so everyone isn't shopping for the same "Cruel ______ of quickness."
    Quote from "Silisquish" »

I'm sure I had other reasons for being disappointed but it's been so long I can't remember them.
    How about the glide? lol.
    Quote from "Silisquish" »
And now I'm playing LoD...... *sigh*... dupes, runewords........ I hope randomness is re-emphasized in D3 (uniques, sets and socketed items are still good and should stay, but I think the best items in the games should be rares, and perhaps sets)

Oh well, on the bright side, it isn't a very addicting game for me anymore (and I mean that in a good way)
Yea, I haven't enjoyed Diablo 2 for about two years now, because everyone is cheating it seems. The economy is fucked up and even though Blizzard bans and resets ladder, people will always find ways to dupe.

Oh, and all my accounts got stolen too, before the duping outbreak. Probably could have made 200+ bucks off all my shit easy, oh well.

Edit #2: Going to Italy for a month, so have a good one guys.

I doubt blizzard would get rid of it, it's a memorable feature from both Diablo games. But maybe Blizz will limit it's effectiveness by lowering the %, or having a chance to leach instead of each hit.

Because everyone follows your religion? Everyone believes it should be one man and one woman? Everyone believes in marriage?
Exactly. People should be able to do whatever they want to do as long as it does not negatively effect others, or themselves.

    Quote from "LinkX" »
Only reason you should have intercourse is love. Nothing else matters, if you are truely and honestly in love, nothing else matters.
Not to get technical or anything, but... The reason of intercourse is childbirth. And from a biological standpoint a woman should not have sex unless she is sure she is getting the best genes she can, and more importantly has found a mate who can protect her and her child. A man should have sex with as many genetically superior (attractive) women as he can to spread his seed.

Obviously this is in our subconscious mind and man-made things like morals, religion, culture, and birth control have drastically altered our evolutionary design model.

    Quote from "LinkX" »
Oh, and the idea of religion in schools keeping the peace is bullshit. Back before the religous movement began, things were peaceful and there was no religion in schools and there was no mass killings like columbine and the postal incident.
Hmmm, speculation methinks? Humans are violent by nature, and throughout out past have always been violent. I honestly believe religion has been used as the tool for unified violence (war) to and extremely sad degree however.
