look at those towns, if the towns are that in depth with so many levels of hieght and tiers, this game will truely be EPIC. it will take 5 minutes to get from one side of town to the other, imagine all the interaction with so many NPCs that could fill a place that big.

This is exactly what i thought when i saw Caldeum in the trailer. Cool.

posted a message on No randomization for outdoor areas
This all depends on the execution. If they do it like Titan Quest, IMO, it loses all the replayability. There were quite a few areas in D2 though that weren't really random, like the Bloody Foothills, as mentioned, the Halls of Pain, the Act 1 outdoors really only the cave entrances and next area paths changed, but even those were marked by the pathway. Sounds like they are really taking a few steps outside the box... I hope they are successful.

posted a message on Showing Blizzard We Support Them
Meh, I don't disagree with all of your post, and I know hyperbole seems to be the favourite word right now... but I will show Blizzard support by purchasing the game when it is released. I dont need to be all up on their dick lolling about how great they are and I am forming Blizzantology cause they can do no wrong. Many people have said the colours are not the problem, its the texture details. Diablo, to me, is not an airy hyper fantasy feel. But that is my opinion.
So I, too, think Blizzard should continue doing what they are doing and I will wait and see what happens. However, I think they should also listen to all of their fans responses. With a grain of salt of course, considering there's 8 years of pent up nerdgasms being released. I wonder if anyone else has considered they released this content on purpose to create more mass hype and hysteria because they know the later stages are badass in comparison...

    Quote from "scotos" »
I vote yay on that one too.
But, I think Blizzard would frown upon players finding great items with a char and then just being able to use those items with a newly created one. It could give that char an unfair advantage. Don't you think this would impact the trade economy of the game?

I dont see how that is avoided in D2 now, with self-muling or muling with a friend. It's called twinking. What else are you going to do with that unique breast plate you got from NM baal?

Shared stash (or an account 'bank' or whatever) is merely a convenience. Blizzard must recognize that people like to hoard.. hell the game is about finding items, and having a shared stash means people will create less accounts and less characters. It doesn't enable or prevent anything, it's a convenience built for the players.

If they do this, it must be huge, and tabbed, so I can have a full stash tab for each type of armor, weapon etc. ^_^ I like to collect.

posted a message on Blizzard needs to implement at least a BoE or BoP system (Bind on Equip or Pick-up).
    Quote from "mrdoom" »
One for BOP and BOE. Diablo's economy was crap and anyone who denies it is delusional. ANY online game with any sort of trade going on requires the same economic mechanics as all the others: there needs to be a way to take money/items back out of the system once they have gone in from drops. It's not an argument. IT HAS TO BE DONE, or we will end up with all but a few items being totally worthless. I liked D2 very much, but I hated playing online because it wasn't a challenge to get good loot.

So BOE and BOP implemented, definitely, more so with the former. BOP should be reserved for situations like items earned through PVP (assuming there is a reward system) or for quest items.

The last issue needed to address though, is using alternate currencies. TBH, it would be difficult to design the game so that gold remains necessary in online play, and therefore remains the currency standard (though I hope blizz will try, since that is much easier to work with) but if not, then there needs to be a way to take runes/SOJs/whatever out of the economy, so that it doesn't become inflated.

One is already in place, socketed items (for runes/other socketables) but TBH it's not enough. What is needed is like a trade comission; a tax on trades or sales. Like the autionhouse commission in many MMOs, but applying to item trading as well. Now how the hell would you do that? No idea. Which is why it would be easier to try and keep gold as the main currency, because that's not as difficult to control. But one thing is for damn sure; if there aren't items being taken out of the economy, it will go south, just like every other online game that didn't have them. D2 was not the first, for those of you who are unaware.

This isn't an MMO. These small governances do not fit in. The basis of Diablo is that, if you can click a mouse, you can play it. The less rare items are saturated after time, while the extra-rare items are coveted. I, for one, would like to collect these items and share them with my chars as I make new builds or whatever. I don't need all these restrictions in Diablo, its much more casual than that.

There's no need for gold to be a mass currency in Diablo because it drops in large piles used for repairs and stuff. We can see that direction in the drops in the gameplay video and sell value of the items. The only solutions needed are fix duping and ladder seasons. The economy will create itself.

posted a message on Diablo III Producer Justifies Controversial Art Direction: Color Is Your Friend
Second, on-topic, go listen to the 7 minute video interview with Rob Pardo. He says that act 1 is pretty much finished and playable. Other classes are playable. This means that whatever % of the gameplay video shown of act 1 is pretty much how they intended that final product to be. I think it should be a good representation of the early game area and a good thing to judge that on. ie: the green glow in the cathedral

We can't, however, judge what the other later stages of the game may or may not look like based on the first area - aside from the general art style with painted textures. It will probably grow darker and feel more urgent as the forces of Hell take over and you must travel to defeat them. I feel they will accomplish that. When I watched the video interview with Keith Lee it looks like he is going to explode cause he can't really talk about it yet, he is genuinely stoked on what they are producing which - small graphical issues aside - gives me +1 stoke.

What all the complainers of the whiners are forgetting (and like Yoshida keeps posting but no one reads) the colour is NOT the problem. Colour is good, it is my friend. I understand the direction for contrast and progression of darkness as a feeling or atmosphere within the game. I think they will accomplish that.

The problem relates to the textures, hand painted, glowy, lack of bump maps and details. D2 was really well done for its time and resolution to make it look more detailed than it was. I would like to see a similar type of treatment that SC2 received, not major, but subtle to enhance the world view.

Anyway, I think I am going to just sit on this issue until Blizz releases another teaser. I am hoping this artwork comes through as designed:

    Not like this:

Colour is essential. Look at this:

Check Germany after WW2 directly and check Germany after 20 years from WW2, can you realize the difference that can happen in 20 years, seriously !!!?

yeah seriously, cause there were masses of people.
    here:

"New Tristram has been in existence for several years, though the exact date of its founding is unclear. Originally simply a collection of merchants looking to profit on adventurers and travelers drawn by legends of riches within the old cathedral, it slowly set down roots and became an established town. As soon as the cathedral was looted bare, however, the adventurers and travelers stopped coming, and New Tristram found itself in decline. The town is now comprised mostly of depressing shacks; the inn is the only building that looks even the least bit habitable."

I don't see how that lends to a clean, green cathedral. that was my point.

I dont think these arguments prove this OP one way or another. You are citing it as a solution to an economy that has not been established, and is not broken.

I say: It has ONLY been 20 years since Diablo 2. Is that enough to change the whole look of the world? Did the extreme makeover crew rebuild the tristram cathedral? :P How much has our physical world changed since 1988... and we haven't been ravaged by demons. (or have we?)

posted a message on NEW video. Compares D1,D2,D3 gameplay
Nice comparison, thanks for the link. Is it just me, or does the barb seem slower in D3 than D2? Other than that, as a comparison between the seemingly first couple areas of each game I think it shows well.
I still would like D3 to be grittier and less glowy... hope they tweak it a bit, but it looks great. You can't deny that. You can see how they have advanced the series. I was thinking about multiple assualt beasts and venom lord champs in a river of flame or similar in the late game stages with a new meteor and chain lightning... that would be epic. ...drool...

True. I didn't elaborate well. What I mean is, when there is an influx of items, either by trading or muling (because the item will never be destroyed) then the value goes down. Since no item would ever be destroyed, inflation kicks in and the economy becomes inundated with items and they become the currency (just like in Diablo 2, duping aside).

That's why even though the United States has mints to print money, we don't just print a trillion dollars because it's convenient.

This is how an economy and value for items are established - based on supply/demand/rarity. The duping was the only reason that inflation was exhorbitant. There was a gambling packet sniffer out almost right away that people gambled tons of SoJs and then proceeded to dupe them. How many legit Zods do you think dropped in the realm.... ever?

Think about it, if you could duplicate your country's currency and there was no way that it could be detected or the penalty was very low - what would happen? Everyone would make their own currency and they would be trading $70M for popular/wanted items IRL.. while all the people that thought it was wrong and just worked their 9to5 would get the shaft. It would destroy the economy, which would have far more devastating effects in the real world than in a game.

As long as they implement a secure network infrastructure, reliable item code identifier and enforced penalties it will not be an issue. The economy will create itself.
