    Thanks for your reply.

My build in particular has many items which boost fireskills. In total, there is currently a +75% boost to fireskills.

If I understand correctly, the 18.5% boost will be added to my affixes, therefore in the case of my fireskill boost, it will give 93.5% ( 75 + 18.5 )

When I was fighting using my puzzle ring, a single explosive blast was giving a max observed crit of 20 million. After switching to the SoJ with gem, the highest crit I saw was 19.6 Million. As my SoJ has no CD, I am losing the crit 48% damage overall but I was thinking all the other SOJ boosts would not only make up for it, but overwhelm it. On paper its far better but what I am seeing indicates it's not. Sigh

posted a message on Fire Wizard and Bane of the trapped
    Hi all

I have a few questions surrounding my new Firebird build ( 6 set firebird bonus ). I recently decided to start using a legendary gem, Bane of the Trapped to be specific and to do that, I rolled a socket into a Stone of Jordan and used that instead of my existing trifecta ring.

Before ( using puzzle ring with 6% CC, 48% CD, 7% AS )

    Profile DPS : 998k , Elemental DPS : 1795k , Elite DPS 1795K

After ( using Stone of Jordan +26% elite damage, Fire skills +17% AND a rank 11 Bane of the Trapped gem with +18.5% damage on controlled monsters)

    Profile DPS : 819k , Elemental DPS : 1595k , Elite DPS 2009K

I have a few questions on this :

    1. Does the bane of the trapped damage apply multiplicatively after I have cast say, frost nova ? Will it give me Elemental DPS : 1595x1.185 =1890k , Elite DPS 2009 x1.185 = 2380K

    2. Does bane of the trapped give me a DPS boost on monsters controlled by spells cast by other players or only my own spells ?

    3. After briefly trying this new setup, it did not feel it was any better than before although the numbers suggest it should be. Is this the way to go for Grifts ? What percentage of monsters are Elites ?

    Thanks

you should reroll the LPH for a socket slot for your Gem because it will be useless at higher GR
    Thank you !

posted a message on What should I reroll ?
    Hi all

Your advice is needed as I am a bit stuck. I have a RORG with the following stats

+448 Int, +6% Attack Speed, 7123 Life per hit, 6% cooldown reduction

The ring will be worn by a fire wizard ( firebird, Wand of woh ). Which stat should I re-roll to crit chance ? or should I not roll at all. Should I use passives like blur/ Audacity / glass cannon to tweak my dps/survivability ?

    Many thanks in advance

Yes, drop rates increase as you go up in difficulty. There was a looooooooooong thread about this not too long ago.

I suggest farming Act 1 on T4 or higher. Find a few people who want to farm it aswell. You can PM me and add me as I am also looking to find one with a better roll than I already have. After installing patch 2.1, a RORG dropped in the 2nd cache I earned in T4.

posted a message on Diablo III crashing since patch 2.1
    Hi all

Since 2.1, I have played about 10 hours. In that time, I've had around 6 application crashes causing a stop and restart. After restarting, it sometimes asks me if I wish to submit a report ( which I click yes to ). Other times, I need to start D3 manually.

The crash usually occurs towards the end of a rift just before or as the Rift Guardian arrives. Before 2.1, I never had any crashes at all - D3 was very stable.

Do you have any idea what the cause is and any way to sidestep it ?

    Thanks

Within the first 20 minutes of play after installing the 2.1, I picked up my first ever Wand of Woh and also an RORG. I am not sure if drop rate logic has been improved but I am at last, on the happier side of content.

I've seen this before aswell and like you, spent ALOT re-rolling but also never ever get 2 sockets. Thankfully, I picked up a better version of the same item with 2 sockets a few days after so I didn't look back.

Although I understand re-rolling is gambling, I do find the choices presented are harsh at times. For example, once I tried to re-roll an item for higher INT. It's original int was about 430. After re-rolling, I was offered a choice between the orginal 430 INT and 420 INT and another 420 INT. To make it worse, in the next roll, I was offered another identical pair of choices which again were worse. Anyway, I persevered and eventually got a nice roll but I do understand your frustration especially given the escalating costs re-rolling.

As it's gambling, don't think we can say its a bug and therefore, it can only be bad luck..

even if its 80 for both - 80 dollars for hours upon hours of gameplay is totally worth it. but i'm biased - i love this game and have def gotten my moneys worth
If you have bottomless pockets, D3+ROS is a decent buy. I've gotten 600 hours out of it which I am generally satisified with.
If you have a tight budget and want to spend your money on a great game, I wouldn't choose D3

D3 is too easy to play. The initial stimulation wears off fast and as no thinking is required, it will become quite boring. There are many features of it which you will realise were put in to increase the longevity of the game. This may or may not bother you but you will notice it bothers many of us who've posted on forums.

Yeah, i probably could.. but when you are met with such stupidity, i dont feel the need to further explain my self.. and its the same attitude i see in all topics: people dont want to read up on stuff, but they expect the proffesionals, who have spend years of their life studying it, to explain it to them without any work at all...

i have a fairly good understanding of what it will cost yes, and its not cheap(can i give you a rough estimate? no! that would depend on the complexity of the setup), especually not when its SEVERAL servers hosting d3, several proxies that divide it to the entire earth.. but yeah, lets go get too technical here..

I never made it sound unaffordable, i made it sound logical that money had to be taken from another department, to be invested in security.. and blizzard is a company, its made to make money, not cater all their profit into server security, cause some random tools can abuse an old "bottleneck" trick like ddoss'ing.

people are allways like "yeah blizzard earns tons ofmoney they can just use it on "random rubject" <--- no.. just no.. thats not how any of this works.. a company main goal is to make a steady revenue to make the shareholders happy.. not fucking use money on server security that isnt needed, if people could follow the law..

    /pewpew
After reading your last post, I do not believe you have ever worked for a proper company or have any understanding of what is required to run a successful business.

so tempted to comment and teach people.. but my logic prevents me.. i'm amazed by how many people here comment without knowing the slightest things about networking and so on.. this is a new low, but hey, yelling the same shit louder, wins the day.. right? :P
Don't break your arm patting yourself on the back.

Hey, if you have actual knowledge to share, please do. Of course there's some folks who think they know what they're talking about, but there are many more that want to know more about these issues quite humbly. As well, there are many that would likely teach you a thing or two. It's a good conversation to have, because from what I've read, this sort of thing is becoming more and more popular.

Myself, I barely know how to plug my cables in correctly.
please, dont do that with the silly pun, its just unnecesary.. maybe my comment was as well, I had hoped it would make some people think again before they actually wrote in a logical topic. where people just say stuff, then say it again in another way, then start yelling it.. and so on..

Yeah, i do hold actual knowledge, since i work in the field and manage networks daily. If YOU wish to know more about this subject quietly and humbly, then i suggest you go google, and everytime you meet a term in networking u dont know, you look it up. I will NOT sit and make a wall of text about networking and what protocols etc does.. I'm sorry, but i dont have the time nor the lust to do so. I really hope you can understand that, im not your teacher :)

    kind regards
    /pewpew

    p.s
to anyone in this point saying companies need to do more, mark my words right now: if YOU want a company to have better internet security, they are gonna HAVE to take the money from somewhere else, maybe the development department or so on.. so ask ur self again.. do you want a company like blizzard to stop developing or do you want them to buy more internet security (and this is NOT a 1-time expense, its gonna be every single fucking day, making sure you are on the cutting edge of any milicious software or ddos attacks..

shit, sometimes i think people fail to think beyond their own nosetip..
No offense but could you try to be just a little bit less condescending.

Do you actually know how much implementating security costs ? You make it sound like it is totally unaffordable. Blizzard isn't a small company with 10 developers and 1000 users with no annual profit.

got kicked out thx lizard squad and thx blizzard for making this online game
sigh..... shut up, its not blizzards fault.
Regardless, blizzard made the game. They decided to make it DRM. Thus, they have partial accountability for the instability of their product. No matter who is assaulting it.
They are also obliged to ensure the game is up and running for some X% of time. For those of you who do want a refund, now is the time to consult your local consumer council. You will have good grounds for getting a full refund.

If Blizzard don't play their cards right, this will be the beginning of the end. Although I do not condone internet terrorism, I have found it can shake up certain companies for their own good and also for the consumer. Companies can become slack, forget about the customer and become too profit oriented

A server client architecture is inherently vulnerable to attacks. If you put in some sort of measures, you will only move the point of vulnerability to somewhere else. It will usually always occur at the point where the system has to filter out / authenticate or where there is a performance bottleneck.

There are ways to lessen the problem using sophiscated load balancing technology with algos idenitifying DOS, tunnelling, routing but theses usually only to lessen the issue rather than to prevent the problem completely.

Internet terrorists are smart. If you step it up, so will they and they will always catch up.
